charming cottage situated on a knoll, surrounded by acres of tranquil farmland, with woods and stream. East and west facing porches overlook uninterrupted pastoral views. The cottage has been recently renovated, whilst retaining its original character with wood floors throughout. Downstairs includes living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with queen size bed. Upstairs there are two delightful bedrooms under the eaves. One room has twin beds, the other a double.
This is an ideal situation where parents can relax and children are safe to explore.

Owners Brian & Theresa Palmer designers from the UK. We moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains 10 years ago. Knoll cottage is situated across the field from our home and studio. We enjoy walking the hundred acres of pasture and woodland, and our guests are welcome to do the same. We often bike the New River Trail and are happy to let the guests have the use of four bicycles as well as canoe and kayak. We are keen gardeners and raise our own organic vegetables. Weekends are spent mainly outside enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.
Theresa Palmer purchased this cottage in 2006
The feedback from our visitors since we started renting the cottage has been most rewarding. It is our pleasure to see guests relaxing and enjoying this peaceful part of the world.
We had a wonderful stay. So glad that we found you. The cottage is absolutely charming. Your special touches top it off. Thank you for everything.
We had a great, early-summer stay. We loved exploring the property, relaxing on the hammock, getting a peaceful nights sleep. Floyd is less than 30 minutes away and we had gone out to their weekly, blue grass "Friday Night Jamberee". Can't recommend coming for this enough. When we returned Theresa had left us what we all decided was the best carrot cake we had ever tasted. She also provided delicious farm-fresh eggs. The cottage is nicely decorated and surrounded by gorgeous flowers, butterflies everywhere. At night we had panoramic views of fireflies that were jaw-dropping. We wished we could have stayed longer.
This house was a wonderful place to stay. The owners are great people. Down to earth and were great hosts. There was a treat of home made bread ,jelly, pie and ginger bread . We felt more at home there than any place we have ever stayed. And given a chance we will go back. We loved every single thing. I will miss it there. And we will miss them too. Thank you so much.
Theresa's cottage is the hidden secret in the blue ridge mountains. It was so beautiful up there if you are planning for a calming experience. Surrounded by rolling pastures with cows, goats, deer and turkey.it was a wonderful experience for my one year old to see them in person up close.
Did I tell about the hammock under the shades tree for siesta, watched quite a few movies.
If you are still reading please stop and book the cottage. Thank you Theresa for the wonderful stay see you soon
My family spent 4 nights in Theresa and Brian's lovely cottage. The air was sweet and cool, the beds very comfortable, and the surroundings just right. The hammock in the back was an instant hit with my son and daughter and dinner in the backyard under the trees with the sun descending was such a treat. We sat on the front porch in the evenings and delighted in watching young deer move into the pasture from the tree line. The cows were a friendly and curious lot, young and old.
By far what made the greatest impression was the generosity of our hosts. With one of her gardens just below the cottage, Theresa welcomed my son to help with harvesting and shared the garden's bounty each day with us. We visited the nearby pond and swam and canoed daily and Theresa and Brian even opened their home to us to watch the Women's World Cup semi-final match! You will not find nicer hosts than these.
We enjoyed pitching in a bit to get the new 'glamping' tent ready for visitors and we look forward to returning to stay again. Of note for visitors, Cascade Falls in Pembroke, VA is a little over an hour away, but one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes you will take; 2 miles in and 2 miles out, all along the water with water streaming over boulders into little pools before you arrive at Cascade Falls for a very chilly dip if you dare! I did and it was well worth it! Chateau Morrisette is also very close by the cottage and after a day of hiking, it's very nice to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening on the front porch. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
My husband and I named this property "The Shire"...it truly feels like falling asleep and waking up in Middle Earth. The cottage is tucked into a hillside surrounded by rolling pastures, the air is sweet and clear, the colors pop all around you, and there is always a cool breeze, even at the end of June. From the moment we walked onto the property, we knew we were in an enchanted place. The cottage itself has been lovingly appointed and cared for; it felt like being welcomed into someone's home, not walking into a rental. The hosts are welcoming and available, (they live in the woods beyond a large pasture), but they are unobtrusive. This is your own slice of heaven, and while there is much to see and do in the surrounding areas, we were often happy to just while away the day in the shire--walking, sitting on the porches and watching the sky change, getting to know the cows, or relaxing in the hammock. And if you're looking for more woodsy experience, Theresa and Brian have a beautiful glamping site available as well. We know we'll come here again and again to unwind and recharge. In all of our travels, we've never happened upon a place quite as sweetly soothing as "The Shire".
My husband and I reserved this house for a week following my graduation from vet school, and what a great choice we made! We both started the week exhausted from long work hours, but ended the week well rested and relaxed. The house is in an absolutely perfect location, surrounded by rolling hills, cattle, and wildlife. When we arrived, we were welcomed by freshly cut flowers (from Theresa's beautifully landscaped yard) and homemade lemon cheesecake in the fridge. We spent our days relaxing in the house and yard, cooking in the kitchen, reading books, watching movies, and taking walks in the fields and woods surrounding the house. Although the house is in a secluded location, you can buy basic groceries and supplies less than 10 minutes away at the Dugspur Deli Mart, and a Food Lion is only 20 minutes away. Throughout our stay, Theresa and Brian were welcoming and happy to show us around the farm. In addition to being a fantastic gardener, Theresa also cooks wonderful deserts which she shared with us. She makes a gorgeous Caramel Custard (ala Julia Childs), and she packed a generous portion up for us to take home with use. If you are looking for the perfect vacation to disconnect from the daily grind, look no further. We had a wonderful time, and can't wait to come back and visit again!
