About Theresa Palmer

Owners Brian & Theresa Palmer designers from the UK. We moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains 10 years ago. Knoll cottage is situated across the field from our home and studio. We enjoy walking the hundred acres of pasture and woodland, and our guests are welcome to do the same. We often bike the New River Trail and are happy to let the guests have the use of four bicycles as well as canoe and kayak. We are keen gardeners and raise our own organic vegetables. Weekends are spent mainly outside enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.

Lovely farmhouse cottage to disconnect from it all!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I decided to take a trip to the mountains for spring break. After several weeks we chose this cottage based on the reviews and more than fair price. We could not have chosen better! The owners Brian and Theresa Palmer were exceptional from the beginning of the booking process and communication was painless. When we arrived Theresa met us at the gate and showed us inside where a homemade cake was waiting! We have a two year old daughter and she offered us a crib for her which was great. Our three boys ages 10 to 13 had the run of the expansive property and enjoyed running in the fields and exploring the creek while my wife and I enjoyed the hammock and just relaxing in the cottage reading a book.

We had planned on just cruising the parkway and really just doing whatever we found worth doing, the nearby town of Floyd was very entertaining and had wonderful shops my wife enjoyed. We took a "day"trip to Luray caverns a four hour drive away and the boys wanted to go to DC afterwards so we went to the capital and the museums, then since we were so close we went to the Baltimore aquarium. Theresa having not seen us in two days called to make sure we were okay showing what caring people they are.

All in all I have to say this was the best vacation we have taken yet and I am sure we will be back very soon. I have already started talking to the wife about going back in the fall!

Owner's Response: Wow, how thoughtful to write such a positive review, and so soon after your stay. With four children, I am surprised that you found the time. We hope that you will return in the fall and we will look forward to seeing you. Theresa and Brian

I absolutely loved this charming cottage on the side of the mountain. The views were spectacular the owner was wonderful and the house itself was perfect in every detail from furnishings to pots and pans to the homemade lemon pound cake left as a 'welcome' treat. Everything you need is there plus little touches like dish soap, coffee, a few baking supplies, paper towels...just in case you forgot something. The owner was also very gracious about enjoying the property as much as I could and even encouraged me to stop cleaning up and go out and enjoy the views before I left! I would stay there again in a heartbeat - can't wait to pick a time to go back.

Untouched by Time

  • 5 of 5

This part of Virginia is beautiful, with winding roads, mountain vistas, plush green farmland, and deep valleys with sparkling streams. But this fun cottage may sit in the most charming valley of all, a wooded farmland valley that looks unchanged for the past 80 years. Theresa and Brian are perfect, English-country hosts, who went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. Great place to relax, especially at the change of seasons in spring and fall. All of us, including our black lab, who had great fun hiking the pastures, populated with cows and sheep, enjoyed our stay immensely.

Owner's Response: The countryside isn't for everyone, Brian and I feel rewarded when we are discovered by people who are looking for just such an escape. We are fortunate to be here, and it gives us pleasure to allow guests to enjoy it with us.

Shabby Chic Bliss!

  • 5 of 5

It was Shabby Chic Bliss! Very quiet and relaxing with a great view! Nicely appointed with a mix of vintage and new, feels more like someone's home than a rental. Loved all the flowers, singing birds and moos from the new calves that came to visit every morning! We will definitely be coming back for another stay!

Perfect relaxing get-away.

  • 5 of 5

Enjoyed our stay at this peaceful, quiet farm cottage, as we have quite a few times over the last several years. We were upset to miss going last year, but that made it all the more enjoyable to get back this spring. If you cherish privacy and peace & quiet, while enjoying the views and sounds of nature on a tranquil cow farm, you will absolutely find this quaint cottage perfect. The unit itself is very clean and comfortable to boot, but you will find yourself spending much of the time sitting outside on the porch with a cup of coffee, taking in the views you might find in a Currier & Ives painting. Theresa and Brian are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to make your stay completely enjoyable. Highly recommended. -John & Jennifer-
