charming cottage situated on a knoll, surrounded by acres of tranquil farmland, with woods and stream. East and west facing porches overlook uninterrupted pastoral views. The cottage has been recently renovated, whilst retaining its original character with wood floors throughout. Downstairs includes living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with queen size bed. Upstairs there are two delightful bedrooms under the eaves. One room has twin beds, the other a double.
This is an ideal situation where parents can relax and children are safe to explore.

Owners Brian & Theresa Palmer designers from the UK. We moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains 10 years ago. Knoll cottage is situated across the field from our home and studio. We enjoy walking the hundred acres of pasture and woodland, and our guests are welcome to do the same. We often bike the New River Trail and are happy to let the guests have the use of four bicycles as well as canoe and kayak. We are keen gardeners and raise our own organic vegetables. Weekends are spent mainly outside enjoying the peace and beauty of the surrounding area.
Theresa Palmer purchased this cottage in 2006
The feedback from our visitors since we started renting the cottage has been most rewarding. It is our pleasure to see guests relaxing and enjoying this peaceful part of the world.
We had a wonderful stay. So glad that we found you. The cottage is absolutely charming. Your special touches top it off. Thank you for everything.
How refreshing and encouraging it is to meet people like Theresa and Brian. They've devoted so much of their time, muscles, hands and backs to passionately embrace and preserve this special rural house and the land that surrounds it. True Americana at its best. Their entire estate that includes their own personal historic house and this vintage country cottage is a model of delicate and conscientious preservation.
So, if you're looking for resorts, swimming pools, hot tubs, downtown traffic, tourist traps, country clubs, tennis courts, trendy restaurants and noisy neighbors - then head to Myrtle Beach.
If you prefer quiet, peaceful days, breezes on a front porch, moonlit nights, beautiful rural Virginia countryside, flower gardens and friendly neighbors (cows, horses, song birds outside your window, owls in the meadow) - then come here. Visit and spend the night in this quaint modest abode that hugs a hill of virgin pastureland.
Therefore, I implore - come here, slow down, exercise your senses, breath some fresh air, listen to nature's symphony while realigning some of your perspectives. Then I promise, just like us, you'll experience some of "life's extras."
There aren't too many times you want to hug your Landlord when you leave but this time we did !
Our weekend at the cottage was absolute perfection. This property was the most beautiful location I have ever seen. We thought we would do what we usually do when we visit the Blue Ridge-- leave the property early to hike and explore, coming home mostly to sleep. Instead we found ourselves leaving only to pick up a few supplies we forgot to pack; the rest of our weekend was spent hiking the property that Theresa and Brian so generously make available to guests, playing in the stream, relaxing in the hammock, visiting an adjacent farm, where Farmer Gary very generously entertained our boys with a horseback ride (and an attempted pig ride, which I think made them happier than anything we have ever done!) and digging in the garden with Theresa. Have you ever eaten a dinner of potatoes you just dug up and pork chops from the source? We have! Theresa was beyond generous with letting the boys help in the garden, and our dogs and boys so enjoyed roaming the pastures. The cottage itself is perfectly quaint and cozy, with a little gas stove, porches with amazing views, and very comfortable beds. Every little touch was perfect. We are counting the days until the cottage reopens in April, and we are eager to try the glamping site as well. You know you've stumbled on a VRBO jackpot when you come home and immediately devote a line-item in your monthly budget to future cottage rentals!
We had a great, early-summer stay. We loved exploring the property, relaxing on the hammock, getting a peaceful nights sleep. Floyd is less than 30 minutes away and we had gone out to their weekly, blue grass "Friday Night Jamberee". Can't recommend coming for this enough. When we returned Theresa had left us what we all decided was the best carrot cake we had ever tasted. She also provided delicious farm-fresh eggs. The cottage is nicely decorated and surrounded by gorgeous flowers, butterflies everywhere. At night we had panoramic views of fireflies that were jaw-dropping. We wished we could have stayed longer.
This house was a wonderful place to stay. The owners are great people. Down to earth and were great hosts. There was a treat of home made bread ,jelly, pie and ginger bread . We felt more at home there than any place we have ever stayed. And given a chance we will go back. We loved every single thing. I will miss it there. And we will miss them too. Thank you so much.
Theresa's cottage is the hidden secret in the blue ridge mountains. It was so beautiful up there if you are planning for a calming experience. Surrounded by rolling pastures with cows, goats, deer and turkey.it was a wonderful experience for my one year old to see them in person up close.
Did I tell about the hammock under the shades tree for siesta, watched quite a few movies.
If you are still reading please stop and book the cottage. Thank you Theresa for the wonderful stay see you soon
My family spent 4 nights in Theresa and Brian's lovely cottage. The air was sweet and cool, the beds very comfortable, and the surroundings just right. The hammock in the back was an instant hit with my son and daughter and dinner in the backyard under the trees with the sun descending was such a treat. We sat on the front porch in the evenings and delighted in watching young deer move into the pasture from the tree line. The cows were a friendly and curious lot, young and old.
By far what made the greatest impression was the generosity of our hosts. With one of her gardens just below the cottage, Theresa welcomed my son to help with harvesting and shared the garden's bounty each day with us. We visited the nearby pond and swam and canoed daily and Theresa and Brian even opened their home to us to watch the Women's World Cup semi-final match! You will not find nicer hosts than these.
We enjoyed pitching in a bit to get the new 'glamping' tent ready for visitors and we look forward to returning to stay again. Of note for visitors, Cascade Falls in Pembroke, VA is a little over an hour away, but one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes you will take; 2 miles in and 2 miles out, all along the water with water streaming over boulders into little pools before you arrive at Cascade Falls for a very chilly dip if you dare! I did and it was well worth it! Chateau Morrisette is also very close by the cottage and after a day of hiking, it's very nice to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening on the front porch. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
