|Minimum Stay||3 - 7 nights|
It is the quiet that you'll first notice. We're almost at the end of the paved road, surrounded by woods and water. Located on the north shore of 7 mile long Devil Track Lake, you'll awake to the lonely call of the loons and the sound of water lapping on the sand beach. You'll notice the night sky too - no lights to interfere with the Milky Way and the wheeling stars.
Clean, clear water for swimming, fishing or boating will attract you, as well as the crisp clean air. Hiking and mountain biking trails are nearby, but maybe you'll just want to barbecue on the deck and enjoy a meal at the picnic table. Maybe prepare a gourmet dinner in the full kitchen. But you'll want to spend as much time as possible outside, and near the water. It will feed your soul.
The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness has access points within 10 miles. Or enjoy a little used hiking/ski trail just across the road(great for dogs).
The picturesque town of Grand Marais is only 11 miles away with shopping, dining, music and theatre options for entertainment.
Head up the famous Gunflint Trail for more hiking, swimming and fishing, maybe sample some of the restaurants at the rustic lodges.
Jane and Jim Shinners owned the Harbor Inn Restaurant & Motel in Grand Marais for 17 years and are now semi-retired. We are experienced Boundary Waters paddlers, bikers, hikers and Nordic skiers, and can provide you with the local knowledge that can make your visit a meaningful one. We strive to make your visit memorable.
Jane and Jim Shinners purchased this cabin in 2009
Just 11 miles from Grand Marais and its shops, restaurants and local culture, Devil Point Cabin is at the end of the paved road and on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Easy access to our favorite activities, canoeing, biking, kayaking, swimming and hiking are all right out the door, along with great fishing.
It's the quiet that is so appealing here - broken sometimes by the call of a loon or Barred Owls. Occasionally wolves can be heard howling in the hills. We've spent entire evenings tucked in a sleeping bag on the deck while the Aurora Borealis lights the northern sky. Wake up to see the sunrise over the lake, and watch the fog burn off over the water as the day warms up. Maybe a bracing swim before breakfast on the deck. Those are our favorite times. A walk in the woods across the road with the dog is perfect anytime of day. But this spot is about being out of doors and reconnecting with nature.
After 100 miles of "no vacancy" signs on a Saturday in September, seeing one at Harbor Inn in the middle of Grand Marais had to be a mistake. Instead, the owners directed us here to the most pleasant surprise imaginable! You truly have a gem here in the middle of this beautiful country. We plan on coming back and spending more time so we can enjoy everything you have to offer. Thank you!!

We just loved staying at this cabin. It was the perfect size for us and our dog. The cabin provided everything we needed for the 6 nights we stayed. The lake this is on is absolutely beautiful! I loved the last morning the most - the lake looked like glass, it was breathtaking! I took many pictures of the lake and the property while we were there - everything is just perfect. Our dog loved swimming in the lake and finally braved the dock towards the end of our stay - we're unsure of why he was so afraid of it at first but he finally made it out there :) We would love to stay at this property again - Jane and Jim are great people and feel like family now!
We really enjoyed our 3-night stay on Devils Track Lake in this lovely cabin. We took advantage of the canoe provided us to explore around the lake. I love the landscape of this area and haven't been back to the canoe country in several years. Refreshed so many memories. We also ventured out on the kayaks to explore more of the lake. We hiked two trails in the area which were relatively close by. All of that outdoor activity helped us appreciate the comfortable cabin even more. The bed was very comfortable! We have VRBOed a few time and have had excellent experiences each time. We have to give the grand prize to this cabin for all of the thoughtful furnishings. I can't imagine what we could have wanted that wasn't available to us. The kitchen was very complete for cooking. Thanks for providing us the opportunity to enjoy your cabin for our get away.
We loved this cabin. Jane, Jim and Alberto were very accommodating and helpful. The proximity to Grand Marais, the North Shore, the Superior Hiking Trail and the BWCA was everything we were looking for. And of course Devil Track Lake was beautiful and great to explore on the kayaks and canoes. Thank you for making your place available for others to enjoy!
We had a great time staying at Jane and Jim's place on Devil Track lake. The cabin itself was clean and very well appointed. Anything you might want is there. The furnishings are comfortable, plenty of bedding and towels. The kitchen is well stocked with some of the basic staples you might require. We enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and the kayaks and canoe during the day. The lake is very calm and peaceful. Probably my favorite aspect is the umbrella on the deck. What a fantastic spot to read a book and kick back. Overall - great vacation and we loved the rental!
The cabin was very peaceful! We enjoyed being able to have all the amenities with being on the lake such as fishing, swimming and canoeing. The cabin was located a little outside of town but only 15-20 minutes so close enough to go into town for the day. Tons of hiking trails near by as well.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It is right on the water where we caught a handful walleye and smallmouth bass right off the dock. Our best fishing time was about an hour before sunset. If you are not familiar with fishing these waters, we took excellent advice from Jane to go to Beaver Bait House in Grand Marias to talk with the owner which was very beneficial. We took the kayaks and canoe across the lake and also to fish around the islands. The property was very clean, well supplied with everything we needed, and we only really needed to go to town for food, beverages, and exploring the area. Jane even brought over some toys for our kids to play with. Owners were very responsive to any questions we had. Excellent hosts who made our stay great - Thanks Again!!!
No city lights here! Enjoy the dark night sky for star gazing and the moonrise. Loons will entertain you by day and night.
