This peaceful apartment is on the ground floor with the entrance off the garden. Alameda was developed in the late 1800's as a beach resort community. Today this 3 by 5 mile island is known for its tree lined streets and large collection of Victorian and Craftsman architecture not to mention the cute California bungalows.
Coming on to the island is like stepping back in time where people walk either the interesting neighborhoods or the beach. There are many owner run business from restaurants, nurseries, old fashion hardware stores, ice cream parlor, coffee shops, bike shops and a lovely restored Art Deco movie theatre. On the spirited end of the island you'll find award winning Rock Wall Winery, St. George Spirits (Hangar One Vodka) and Fraction Brewery , all facing the SF skyline. Oh, there are two 18 hole golf courses and a 9 hole par3 course at one end of the island. did I say we're only about a 15 min drive to the Oakland Airport?
This oasis is just a ferry ride from San Francisco. Or you could drive across one of the bridges to Oakland and catch the Bay Area Rapid Transit. Oakland (5 miles away) is home to Major league baseball, football, and basketball. An hours drive will take you to the wine country of Napa/Sonoma or to the coast at Half Moon Bay. A 15-30 min drive will take you to one of the Easy Bay Regional Parks with over 1,000 miles of hiking trails. Of Course there is the interesting town of Berkeley just about a 15-20 min drive north.
Having been an Alameda residents for 25+ years, we were excited to find this comfortable well located apartment for a return visit after having moved 4 years ago. Great location, quiet, modestly but well appointed. Very clean & Betty was easy to work with. It's a great value for a Bay Area stay! Only caution for the older set: front steps are steep and a shower bar would be a great addition. Parking is a real plus: street parking generally available during the day & the driveway is also available ....we tended to use the street when possible because of the steepness of the drive but having it as a back up was great!! Nice to know we still have a home in Alameda!!!
This apt was perfect for our 3 week visit to California! When you come here, you've come Home! Betty anticipates just what you need. From the banana bread welcome to the down pillows on the bed our stay was great! No problems with parking...Close to shopping, nice area, quick drive into San Francisco. Washer dryer and good internet! We've stayed many places in the area but this is our favorite.
This is our second stay with Betty and it went smoothly as we expected. The apartment is close to shopping on Park street and the South Shore Center. Parking was not a problem and the neighborhood is peaceful. Betty has the apartment well appointed with basics and the banana bread was appreciated. We will stay here again when we return to Alameda.
This was a great way to see San Francisco without the breaking the bank. A short drive over the bridge or a fun ferry ride into the city. The apartment was cozy and comfortable. Betty was so easy to work with. She guided us all along the way! I was very nervous about parking before the trip. I had heard bad stories of parking problems. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS HERE! There is plenty of parking on the street, and NO RESTRICTIONS. The neighborhood was very safe and there was always a spot close by to park. It was so easy. We rented a car and it worked out perfect for us.
I stayed at the apartment for five nights while attending a conference in Oakland and was joined by my girlfriend the last two of those nights. Communications leading up to the stay were easy. On arrival, the apartment was clean and well equipped, with convenient parking in the driveway of the complex made available to us. Alameda has many picturesque neighborhoods and is worth exploring even if your stay is focused on other parts of the Bay Area. I would certainly stay here again and would definitely recommend this property.
This review is after is my second time staying there. Both times I was there for conventions at the Moscone in downtown SF. The property was perfect for my needs - very clean, comfortable bed, simple check in/out. It's within a short walk to Park St, which has a small town main street feel and great restaurants. Getting to/from SF was easy - I took the ferry, but there's also the BART on Fruitvale Ave (5 min drive). Highly recommended - I will definitely stay again on future visits to SF.
