Girdwood is an adventurers dream come true. Nowhere else in the country or world does there exist such awe inspiring scenery and access to outdoor adventure. Located in the heart of Alaska's famed Chugach Mountain Range, Girdwood is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts 12 months of the year. The long summer days provide almost 18 full hours of bright sunshine during and around Summer Solstice, giving visitors ample opportunity to enjoy Alaska's wonders.
The Alyeska House is located in a quiet part of Girdwood with a large back yard and spectacular views of meadows and the valley's surrounding mountains. Several restaurants, small shops and The Alyeska Resort are within a 5 minute drive of the house.
"Thanks so much to Luke for helping us during our time in Girdwood. We were planning our first trip to Alaska and found his advice to be honest and extremely helpful. If you've never been to Alaska, we would recommend booking your first trip today! There's really no other place like it in the country or the whole world. We couldn't have been more happy with our decision to stay at the vail house. It was perfect for us and we would certainly come back if possible in the future. The quiet neighborhood has lots of wildlife - our first night there we saw two moose and a porcupine perusing the neighborhood. Thanks again and we hope to return in the future." Roger and Gerry.
We enjoyed our stay in August 2016. Our son got married at the resort so we were happy to be so close! The space worked well for our party of 8 adults and two babies.
Home was perfect for large family to use as base. Jody was very good at communicating with us for arrival, and the home was just what we expected. Everything we needed was available.
The home was very nicely decorated and clean. The bedroom/ bathroom arrangements met our family of eight's needs very well. We totally enjoyed the great room and the kitchen was wonderful. Jody was very helpful and easy to work with.
The location was perfect for our activities and excursions: fishing, hiking glacier, kayaking and family time.
This is a great house to stay in Girdwood. The layout is great for large groups or families. Upstairs is the main bed with ensuite plus another full bathroom. The kitchen is very large with everything you need. The dining area has a large 8 seat table and there is the living area. Off the kitchen is a small deck with a 2 seat sofa plus the BBQ. The whole upstairs is open plan from the kitchen to dining and living.
Two things I really loved about the upstairs was the view of the mountains from every window - just amazing. Also in the living area there was no TV (the TV room was downstairs) - I don't go on vacation the watch TV!! Off the living area was a larger deck which you could sit out and catch the afternoon sun. Downstairs was 3 bedrooms, full bathroom, laundry and TV room.
The house had everything you needed, the beds were comfortable and everything was clean. The bedrooms had good blacken out curtains (very important if you go in summer time as the sun sets at 11ish!!).
Girdwood is not a very big town so the house is very central to all. You still need a car but it is only a few minutes drive to the ski resort, the gondola and townsite. The house is in the "suburbs" thus is very quiet.
There are plenty of good places to eat. Breakfast/lunch - The Bake House. Dinner - Chair 5, Jack Sprout & Double Musky.
Things to do: there is so much to do here, you will not have any problems filling in the day!!! But here is some things we did:
- hike up the mountain to the top of the gondola (very rewarding but very steep - great views and you avoid the $25 gondola fee)
- Crow Creek Mine - very pretty
- Animal Shelter in Portage - see bears, moose, caribou up real close
- Drive to Seward - very scenic drive and great little town
- Do the Glacier Tour in Whittier
If you come to visit Girdwood then this is a perfect place to stay. I will come back again.
A group of us stayed here for our vacation and we couldn't have stayed in a more beautiful home! The home is spacious, comfortable and has magnificent views. We even saw the Northern Lights right from the upstairs balcony. The area of Girdwood was breath-taking. Close to shops, eateries, and the Resort. Thanks Jody for helping our stay in your beautiful state be a wonderful one!
We had a large family wedding in Girdwood in August and the bride and her friends stayed at the house and the manager of the house was just great.. This house is located in a nice neighborhood and it was very clean and spacious. The girls appreciated the large kitchen and the comfortable surrounding. The back yard was great and it was within walking distance to a hike with a beautiful waterfall..
This house is a perfect house for 7 and the owners made it easy to be there.
