We are located off the main highway that runs from La Fortuna to the Arenal Volcano. You will have the private guesthouse, pool & patio all to yourself on one acre in the beautiful countryside. The owners are on-site if you need anything at all to make your stay here in Costa Rica as wonderful as possible. The Villa Hermosa is located far enough for privacy & but close-enough to the attractions when you're ready to see the sights! The view of Volcano Arenal from the pool & patio is awesome and the amount of birds we get here is impressive.
The activities here are endless here...just about anything you want to do, you can find it here in the 'adventure capital of Costa Rica'!
Attention couples!: Whether you just got married, are celebrating a special occasion or are just looking for some privacy, this is the perfect place for you! You get all of the benefits of having a private guesthouse but have the owners close by if you need anything at all. We realize everybody is different so we ask you upon check-in what it is that you want from us so we can make sure you get it! If you don't want to see us for the entire visit, we'll do our best to make ourselves 'scarce'. If you enjoy having another couple around to chat with, we'll be there...whatever style works for you we'll do our best to make your stay here outstanding!
Attention families!: If you are looking for a place that it is safe for your kids to run around without worrying about them than Villa Hermosa is a good choice. We are a private property with a gated entrance and a fully-enclosed 1 acre property. We have native plants, trees, flowers, birds, butterflies and some frogs and other things that come to visit so your kids will have plenty to see. We have a view of the volcano from our private patio & pool and it's all yours...no need to share with 100's of other people like at large hotels!!! We have many games on-site that are good for both adults and children to play which include horseshoes, badminton, soft-tip lawn darts, soccer ball, frisbees and many more!
About the area...: We are just 15 minutes from the main road that runs from downtown La Fortuna up to the National Park & Lake. We are located in a beautiful area just outside the city where you can come home to a relaxing place after spending your day hiking or repelling down waterfalls! If you want an experience that is far different than that of staying at a hotel, than Villa Hermosa is for you.
I moved here in November of 2009 and every day I still can't believe I get to call this gorgeous place home! I've created a very fulfilling life here by volunteering with animal rescue, creating a social club and volunteering with the orphanage and safe house for girls. Having the time to give back is a wonderful experience and helping people have a trip of a lifetime is very satisfying!
Judah Ritterman purchased this villa in 2009
I looked at many properties all over the country and they were too hot, too many bugs, this or that. This was the second to last property looked at before driving to the airport in San Jose. I heard nothing but the MOO of a cow, there was a cool breeze and I couldn't see any neighbors...SOLD! Today we've re-planted the one acre property with tropical plants and have many local animals come to visit and even chose to live here. The more I travel around Costa Rica I realize I chose the perfect place for me.
This is in a quiet neighborhood just 5 minutes from a true 'Tico' town...what La Fortuna center was probably like about 50 years ago. People wanting to experience the real Costa Rica and aren't afraid of a dirt road (smile), this is the place! We are also just 4km from The Springs Resort & Spa...one of my favorite places to go: food, hot springs, wildlife rescue, Club Rio and rock climbing. Pura Vida!
The Villa Hermosa guesthouse is a relaxing and well appointed retreat near La Fortuna. My family and I stayed at the guesthouse for 5 nights in early august. The accommodations were perfect for my family of four. We spent our days exploring all that La Fortuna/Arenal has to offer and then we would return to the guesthouse for fun and relaxing afternoons and evenings. We enjoyed swimming in the pool and some fierce games of horseshoes, darts, and pool. Wendy served delicious breakfasts and booked our activities. We especially liked Danny Vega, the guide she reserved for our Hanging Bridges tour. The Villa Hermosa gardens are lovely and the outdoor living space is really inviting. The ten minute drive from the main road offers some truly spectacular views of the volcano on one side and the gorgeous valley on the other side. We loved our stay at Villa Hermosa guesthouse!

Great location - so much to do! - and the property feels right in the heart of the jungle - a true Costa Rican experience!
A beautiful property located just far away from the crowds and noise of La Fortuna to feel like we were in the rain forest and close enough to all of the activities we wanted to do near Arenal. It was extra nice to have our dishes done and house cleaned every day when we returned from our daily adventures. The pool on the property was especially nice for our kids to use in the evenings when it got dark. Our family used the pool, pool table and darts every night we were there. Wendy was especially helpful and knowledgeable and helped us plan our activities every day, and made reservations for us when needed. Wendy made some excellent recommendations for our family. Great experience!!!!!
This house was centrally located, well equipped and very clean. Wendy was excellent very helpful and welcoming!
We have been to Costa Rica many times and this is a very favorite place to stay! The pristine fountain pool and gardens are truly lovely and lush. The linens and beds are soft and comfy with everything you need in the kitchen ready to go... great coffee, sugar, and cold drinking water. The charming and helpful owner, Wendy, is their when needed with advice and help for planning excursions, dining, sight-seeing, etc.... a true delight. The rainforest is so green and fresh with so many amazing things to see and do so close by. We will be back for sure!! Pure Vida!

This was our first time travelling internationally and travelling with a toddler in tow. Wendy eased so many of my anxieties and made us feel right at home. We felt like herpersonal guests and loved the daily check-ins and sharing of stories. The property itself is indescribable. I loved being outside but inside at the same time (open air living areas and kitchen!), and our son insisted on eating breakfast by the pool and walking the nature trails every single morning. We saw toucans, parrots, and a sloth - all within our first day! The minus one star is simply because there were some hot water issues in the main guesthouse. We were able to take warm showers in the second bathroom, so it really wasn't a big deal. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here or recommend here to family and friends.
We were treated like royalty from the moment of our 1st inquiry about renting through our entire stay. Every amenity one could think of, or didn't even bother to think of, was well thought out and provided by Wendy prior to and throughout our stay. Private, spotless, secure, daily housekeeper, gorgeous grounds and gardens, pool, gameroom, and animal life. I had 2 teens with me who think the same. They found a red eyed tree frog moments after we arrived. In fact, if you didn't care to visit local attractions, staying here your whole trip would be perfect. Her partner, Gary is a knowledgeable, patient, and polite guide who offers hiking tours. We hired him for both a morning and night jungle tour - both excellent. Our night tour began and ended at a loving, friendly Costa Rican family home. At the end of the hike, this family served us a delicious, home cooked meal. While remote, there was surprisingly easily attainable food for home cooking, or fantastic restaurants. It was nice to arrive and find refrigerated water, frosted glasses in the freezer, milk, coffee, and condiments to get you started. Yes, I would recommend and yes, I would return without hesitation. Wendy provides a pdf with spot-on directions, including mile markers and landmarks that enabled us to successfully find her remote location on a very dark, cloudy night. Importantly, she advised us set the trip meter to zero when leaving the airport, then at 40 kms you should see such and such etc.
We are located 7 km off the main road that runs from downtown La Fortuna to the Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal. The activities here are endless but some of the most popular are: hiking at Volcano Arenal National Park, canyoning, white water river rafting, canopy tours, ziplines, hot springs, horseback riding, animal watching, bird watching, fishing, rappelling, kayaking, wind surfing, atv/quad tours, spas, biking...and the list goes on! We are closer to Rio Celeste than staying right in town-the same goes for visiting the Maleku Indians & Venado Caves.
Other Activities: Rapelling, white water river rafting, canyoning, hiking, bird watching, jungle treks
