A view of Western Bay and mountains add to miles of tidal shoreline and abundant wildlife. Located conveniently between both sections of Acadia National Park. The very old historic town of Lamoine is a quiet ocean surrounded area affording easy access to Ellsworth,( 7miles), and all the busier tourist areas at our doorstep. Without the crowds one can relax here after visiting the very busy park and activities. Bird and wildlife viewing here is far superior to most of the park. A nesting Bald Eagle pair live here on our bay and can be seen often as well as deer, red fox and many more.
As a retired contractor I fell in love with and bought the property several years ago. So close to all the attractions, but very far away from the traffic and congestion. This is a natural bay which affords clam digging, mussel picking as well as a much needed rest stop for several migrating bird species.
The Carriage house style was built to afford and lofty view. The simple design was chosen to be easy to live with. Simple, but functional . The property rental allows us to fund our retirement activities as well as let others enjoy Maine the way it really is.
Steve Belden purchased this house in 2007
Private location that is near Maine's best activities and parks. A true natural setting with abundant wildlife. A great place for well behaved pets and children. Our 1/2 miles driveway is quiet and away from roads, traffic and the mass crowds. The surrounding towns here have lots of restaurants, lobster pounds and activities.
If you seek a very crowded town packed with traffic gridlock and people you should choose Bar Harbor. Our guests have many times been to the area before and realize they can have the best of both worlds here.
Most are nature lovers seeking peace and quiet in harmony with nature. Close to lots of activities. Close to a small municipal airport for those who fly to the area. Within 5 miles of the hub terminal for the Island Explorer bus system that will take you anywhere in the park or local area ( free )!
This is a great house for a vacation in the Acadia Area! Lots of windows, very bright and it feels very new. Kitchen is modern and it is nice to cook in. Good views of the water and a nice deck to enjoy those views. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
This house was great for our family -including the dog -during our visit to the Bar Harbor/Acadia area. We appreciated the "new" feel throughout the home ( which is a very HUGE plus, no musty rooms, just the smell of new wood). The woodwork throughout the home is exceptional. The house has everything you need with a bathroom to go w each bedroom. Lamoine beach is also right down the street and our dog loved the walks along the water and beach there. The drive to Bar Harbor was about 30 mins and apprx 20 mins to Acadia entrance though it doesnt feel even that far at all. There are some nice restaurants and a small winery etc along the drive as well. It was also nice to escape the bar harbor crowds and get back to a truly peaceful retreat. Coffee on the deck each am was very relaxing and we got to see some wildlife as well. We hope to be back soon. Also , Steve was great to answer any questions about the house and area.
We had a great stay in Lamoine. House was very comfortable with great views from back deck overlooking the bay. Location was perfect removed from the hustle and bustle of Acadia and Bar Harbor yet close enough for quick visits. Plenty of wildlife in area and saw deer every day near house. Owner was very easy to work with and made our stay very enjoyable. Looking forward to our next stay. Thanks Steve!
We had a great visit to Acadia and this home was a nice quiet respite from the busy Bar Harbor tourist zone and an easy drive to all the attractions. Steve's finished carpentry skills shined in the well designed home which nicely accommodated our family of six. Our grandchildren and actually all of us enjoyed the many deer sightings on the property as well as fox, rabbits and osprey. Our only wish would have been a dishwasher but otherwise everything provided was top notch and appreciated.
Loved the house only thing missing is a dishwasher Excellent location for exploring Acadia also enjoyed kayaking in bay
This property gave us everything we needed for 2 wonderful weeks to explore Acadia National Park and beyond. The home is set in a natural wooded setting with views of the bay. The back deck was our favorite place for breakfast, reading, or just looking out at the bay. The kitchen was stocked with every tool we needed. We had deer come thru the yard frequently and saw a bald eagle one afternoon.
Our 2 dogs loved having a yard to run in, and enjoyed exploring the ocean smells.
One thing I will mention is the airport is across the bay, so you do get some air traffic noise. The scenic flights begin early in the morning and it was fun to watch the biplane circle over us. We found this air activity enjoyable.
We are definitely coming back.
The cottage is located conveniently mid way between both segments of Acadia National Park. The Mount Desert Island and The Schoodic Penninsula sections of Acadia offer there own types of recreation and activities. The town of Lamoine offers an oceanfront State park as well as several large uncrowded sand beaches not well known by the masses swarming The Acadia and Bar Harbor areas
