About Steve Belden

As a retired contractor I fell in love with and bought the property several years ago. So close to all the attractions, but very far away from the traffic and congestion. This is a natural bay which affords clam digging, mussel picking as well as a much needed rest stop for several migrating bird species.

The Carriage house style was built to afford and lofty view. The simple design was chosen to be easy to live with. Simple, but functional . The property rental allows us to fund our retirement activities as well as let others enjoy Maine the way it really is.

Steve Belden purchased this house in 2007

Why Steve Belden chose Downeast and Acadia

Private location that is near Maine's best activities and parks. A true natural setting with abundant wildlife. A great place for well behaved pets and children. Our 1/2 miles driveway is quiet and away from roads, traffic and the mass crowds. The surrounding towns here have lots of restaurants, lobster pounds and activities.

If you seek a very crowded town packed with traffic gridlock and people you should choose Bar Harbor. Our guests have many times been to the area before and realize they can have the best of both worlds here.

What makes this house unique

Most are nature lovers seeking peace and quiet in harmony with nature. Close to lots of activities. Close to a small municipal airport for those who fly to the area. Within 5 miles of the hub terminal for the Island Explorer bus system that will take you anywhere in the park or local area ( free )!

Fantastic vacation.

This property gave us everything we needed for 2 wonderful weeks to explore Acadia National Park and beyond. The home is set in a natural wooded setting with views of the bay. The back deck was our favorite place for breakfast, reading, or just looking out at the bay. The kitchen was stocked with every tool we needed. We had deer come thru the yard frequently and saw a bald eagle one afternoon.

Our 2 dogs loved having a yard to run in, and enjoyed exploring the ocean smells.

One thing I will mention is the airport is across the bay, so you do get some air traffic noise. The scenic flights begin early in the morning and it was fun to watch the biplane circle over us. We found this air activity enjoyable.

We are definitely coming back.

Excellent location for doing things in the Bar Harbor area without the Bar Harbor price. We visited here with our extended family and it was great for everyone to have their own bathroom! You must have a car to get into town.

We had a few problems but the owner remedied these as quickly as possible; in fact he voluntarily gave us more than our deposit for the inconvenience. If we did not have these problems I would have given it 5 stars.

The house was wonderful! Very well stocked with cooking/sleeping/bathing supplies, and the setting is amazing-- the pictures really don't begin to do the property justice. The location was also a huge plus; though it's not right in the park, the accessibility to Acadia and the Bar Harbor restaurants, etc., was very convenient. Anything you might need in the way of groceries is just a ten minute drive into Ellsworth, and there is a fantastic spot to buy fresh caught lobster right up the road. The property owner was incredibly easy to work with, and very accommodating to us as first-time VRBO renters. We will absolutely be coming back next summer! Thank you :-)

We loved staying here!

  • 5 of 5

Great home for our extended family. The main living area and deck were good for gathering but with two levels and 3 bedrooms and bathrooms everyone had private space as well. Enjoyed the path to the water and saw deer almost every day. House was well outfitted with linens and kitchen equipment. We biked to and from Lamoine State Park and Beach on quiet country roads. Picking up groceries was easy (shops in Ellsworth or on the way home from Mount Desert Island).

This place was the perfect home base for my family and I to explore Mount Desert Island! The house looks new! It is clean and comfortable and has all the amenities to make yourself at home. We cooked (and grilled) our dinner several nights and enjoyed the deck in the evenings and each morning. We enjoyed the quiet surroundings and the secluded nature of the property. My family (wife, son, daughter and son-in-law) and I loved sending our down time at the house relaxing after our days of hiking in Acadia and shopping in Bar Harbor. We hope to return someday.
