Escape the Heat to Cold Water! Texas Hill Country Getaway at Hunt Vacation House

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Hunt Vacation House is a beautiful family sized home with easy and private Guadalupe River access. This is the perfect place to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the Texas Hill Country. We’re ten minutes west of Hunt along one of the prettiest stretches of country road in Texas – convenient to summer camps and off-season activities.

We're high enough on the hill to have tree top views of the Guadalupe River Valley and just a short hike down the trail to the home owner association river park with canoes, kayaks, barbecue and rope swing. There is a private dam just below the park so the water stays high even in the driest summers.

The house will sleep nine: There is a queen bed and private bathroom with tub in the master. The upstairs bedroom has its own balcony and private bathroom with shower. The middle two bedrooms have a trundle bed (2 singles - great for kids), a single and double bed and share a bath with laundry room.

The dining area seats eight – six at the table and two at the breakfast bar. The family room has a high beam ceiling and a glass paned door with sidelights to enjoy the view and let the breeze in. If you can’t leave your technology at home there is wireless internet and satellite TV. The house has every amenity needed for a comfortable stay (oven, fridge, dishwasher, fresh linens, etc). Nothing extra is needed; just bring some groceries, a bathing suit and free time to enjoy it!

Outside we have two spacious decks with Hill Country views. Drink your morning coffee on the side deck and watch the sun rise. Enjoy an evening glass of wine while star gazing on the front deck. Guests often see deer and fox passing through the yard. There is a hammock, a porch swing, and outside eating area with gas grill.

Small dogs considered individually: We understand that pets are a part of the family. At the same time, we have to keep in mind that guests with allergies cannot tolerate any trace of a pet in the house. Dogs weighing less than 20 pounds will be allowed on prior approval only with a pet charge of $10 per day per pet, $500 refundable pet deposit, and a non-refundable pet cleaning fee of $50. No cats. Pet fees will be due via an additional payment request if you use the Instant Booking option.

We just got a wireless extender - Verizon & ATT cell service is good at the house, but not at the river park or on the road. No guarantee though, this is the country.

Thanks y'all,

Hunt Vacation House family

About Michelle

Danny grew up in Del Rio and San Antonio and has family in and around Kerrville. He introduced Michelle to Texas Hill Country in Hunt. The area is a great reminder of Michelle's ranching roots in western South Dakota. We both fell in love with the Guadalupe River and it's beautiful cypress tree canopy on one of Michelle's first visits to Hill Country.

We live full time in Anchorage, Alaska and plan to spend more time each year at our home in Hunt.

Michelle purchased this house in 2011

Why Michelle chose Texas Hill Country

We love the Hunt area and the Guadalupe River! We stayed at many vacation rentals in the area before we decided we want to retire here. The accessibility of the river park without the riverside price was what drew us to this particular house. It feels so private - other riverside rentals we stayed in have neighbors right next door or multiple rentals on-site. Even though we're in a subdivision - it feels like we're out in the country. The previous owner's western decor made it feel homey right away and - did we mention - the Guadalupe River is just down the trail?

What makes this house unique

One of the things we most look forward to when staying at our Hunt vacation house is family gatherings on the huge deck. After all the years of living away and counting on someone else to hold a get together when we visit - we finally get to host them! Another favorite & practically nightly activity is star gazing on the front porch with a glass of wine. There is so little light interference out here that the stars are amazingly bright!

Private Guadalupe River park shared with only 20 or so families in the homeowners association with access to the park. A public trail goes from the end of our driveway down the hill and across the road to our homeowner’s association river park. We affectionately call it “the goat trail” – it’s a little rough but completely manageable by most people. The river park has kayaks, picnic tables, a grill, and a rope swing.

Enjoyed our visit

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay. The house was very accomodating. I had a question about internet and called Michell, and she got me on right away. We traveled each day to Kerrville to visit our mom who is 93. The drive from Hunt to Kerrville was a beautiful drive. Thank you Michell, for opening your home for us to stay.

Ideal & secluded!

  • 5 of 5

Secluded property with deer, a shed for our 3 motorcycles, decks to relax on, 3 bathrooms one for each couple! Kitchen was well stocked. A fireplace for ambience with comfortable leather couches in the living room area with a recliner also. We really enjoyed our stay & will stay again most definitely! Close to great scenic roads in the Texas Hill Country ideal for motorcycle riders!

Great Family Friendly property.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend at this property with 2 families of 4. The teenagers had fun, the smaller kids had fun, and the Adults were able to relax.

Property management was very easy to work with and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a get a way.

Hill Country Heaven

  • 5 of 5

I have used VRBO for years, and this is one of the best rentals I've ever had. Start with the location: at the dead end of a nice Hill Country neighborhood with terrific privacy and no views of any neighbors...just expansive views of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The house was clean, with good furniture, and a highly functional layout for our family of five. Clean, soft sheets with nice mattresses were enjoyed by all, as were the ceiling fans. Other than the views, the best feature of this rental is a huge outdoor deck and fire pit. We spent hours outside enjoying nature and the property. We also enjoyed the beautiful short walk to the river. We enjoyed cooking meals, reading, napping and watching football in the house. My wife enjoyed the nice tub. My sons enjoyed playing football outside in a nice sized yard/outdoor space. The owners were responsive in all communication leading up to the rental. For sure, we will be back. A-plus experience.

Owner's Response: I'm blushing! Thank you for the lovely words about our house. I'm not sure it's in any of the owner info, but we made the decision to buy the house the minute we stepped onto the deck for the first time. It has proven to be the comfortable, relaxing space we imagined and enjoy - we're so happy you you think so too!

What a great place to stay winter or summer! We will be back.

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed the week before Christmas and it was terrific. We took out 4 and 6 yr old grandchildren plus our two corgis and fun was had by all. The house was perfect and well stocked with everything you will need, the beds are so comfy, and the property is just gorgeous. Plenty of room and privacy for kids and dogs to run and play.

Michelle was a gracious host who was on the ball after a suitcase was left behind on Christmas Eve and had it taken to ups for me.

I will highly recommend this house winter or summer. I know we will be back to play on the the river when it warms up.

Cozy Home in the Hill Country

  • 5 of 5

My family spent 4 nights at this vacation rental recently and had a very good experience there. The house is comfortable, clean, and spacious. It is a 2 story house, but set up on 3 levels. The main level includes the kitchen, dining, and living area. Up about 5 stairs is the master bedroom (queen bed) with in suite bathroom, 2 additional bedrooms, and another full bath that includes a washer and dryer. Up about 10 more stairs is another bedroom with a full bed and private bath. It was a nice set up for our family of 5. I would not call this a "luxury" rental, but more a comfy hill country home in the hills. It's cozy, clean and comfortable. The living room and master bedroom are especially nicely furnished. There is a large deck in front of the house and a smaller, but roomy deck, on the side of the house ... both with pretty views and lots of outdoor furniture for your use. There's also a nice fire pit in the yard that we enjoyed one night. The neighborhood that this house is located in is very quiet and the houses are far apart. You cannot see another house from the decks, windows, or yard of this house. The river is just a 5 min. walk away, across the river road, and there is a nice swimming/boating/picnic area there for the use of the guests of this house.

We found the owners of the home very helpful and easy to reach, if needed. The rental process went smoothly and the home was as described and depicted on the website. And our damage deposit was returned within a couple of days, which we appreciated. We would definitely stay at this rental again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to be near the river in the hill country.

Hunt Store
"The Hunt Store is part of the character of the community. Great BBQ sandwiches and chocolat..."
Car: recommended

Our home is west of Hunt along Highway 39 and the south fork of the Guadalupe River. The main attraction is the river, wildlife, and the peaceful setting. You can find dining, golf, hiking trails, dances and rodeos all within a half an hour drive.
