Overview

New Hill House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6-10)

This unique property is located on the southeast side of Jordan Lake with a public boat launch just .4 miles down the road and a public beach 3 miles away. Although we are not waterfront (There are no homes waterfront on Jordan Lake) It is the only vacation rental property available this close to Jordan Lake. We do have a 1 1/4 acre pond in our front yard with a fire pit and you can fish catch and release on site without a fishing license since you are on private property.

The rental property consists of a new 2200 square foot addition built in 2008 which is connected to the cabin by a roofed open breezeway. The owners live in the cabin and the new addition serves as the vacation rental with its own private entrances.

Downstairs is a large great room with 12 foot ceilings and crown molding with lights. This is the living room with a small antique table with four chairs for cards or games, a couch and chair, and one full size futon. The great room also has a bar with four bar chairs and an HD flat screen TV with a built in DVD player and Dish Network satellite TV.

Also downstairs off the great room is a third bedroom with a queen size bed, a single bed, and a private bath with a full width step in shower with seating areas and hand rails for support.

Upstairs has two bedrooms with queen size beds - each with its own privately connected, tiled full baths with vanity sinks. The two baths upstairs have whirlpool tubs/showers.

Outside the two rooms upstairs is a coffee bar with a small refrigerator to hold your favorite beverages, and a laundry room with a Maytag washer and dryer for your convenience.

The great room can sleep two on a full-size futon and has separate interior and exterior entrances. It also has a small 4 person farm table if you would like to eat dinner while watching TV.

You can also enjoy our fully equipped gourmet kitchen downstairs which is adjacent to the dining room and has the following amenities:

• Gas range with 5 burners, a non-stick griddle, full sized gas oven and lower electric oven

• Microwave/convection oven with vented hood

• Toaster oven

• Coffee maker

• Calphalon/All Clad cookware

• Double kitchen sink with waste disposal

• Prep/vegetable sink

• Silverware, dishes, serving ware, cooking/grilling supplies, etc.

Outside of the kitchen is a large 16’ x 44’ concrete patio with lounge chairs, picnic tables and a gas grill large enough for a family BBQ. A gas smokers is also available.

The property is located on 5 beautifully landscaped acres with a “pick your own” herb garden right outside the kitchen.

Local hiking trails and state campgrounds are a few miles down the road and shopping centers and a movie theater are located about 15 minutes east. A local grocery store and meat market are nearby as well as a Super Walmart and Target within a 20 minutes drive.

Onsite recreation includes horseshoes, fishing for bass, catfish, sunfish, etc. in our pond (catch and release), cycling, basketball, or just swinging in the hammock.

This is a very peaceful location with great views from everywhere, plenty of stars in the sky at night and a rustic fire pit to gather around at the end of the evening. (Don't forget to bring the S'Mores!)

All of the adjacent properties are located on between 5 and 8 acres so there is plenty privacy and space between homes and lots of fresh air.

We also have ample parking for power boats, fishing boats, campers and RV's so bring them along so you can enjoy one of the most beautiful non-residential 14,000 acre lake in central NC.

Available year round, check our online calendar for openings.

We look forward to hosting you and your loved ones! - Bill and Lisa

About Bill

We share a love for good food and cooking, boating, nature, gardening and music. We Look forward to seeing you soon! All the best! Bill & Lisa

Bill purchased this house in 2005

Why Bill chose North Carolina

We purchased our property at Jordan Lake as a future home with the potential to be a vacation property for people like us who enjoy the country for the freedom and peacefulness it has to offer. We also appreciate the convenience to Jordan Lake as we are avid boaters ourselves. We know that you will enjoy what we have to offer.

What makes this house unique

One of the most unique things about our place is the blend of old and new on the property itself. We enjoy the serenity and calm out here in the country, but still like to have the convenience to each of the Triangle's nearby cities and all they have to offer from shopping to recreation to entertainment. You can lose track of time so easily while you sit and watch the herons fly into the pond, listen to the tree frogs, and just gaze at the water while being only minutes from the city. The fresh air and stars at night are second to none.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi, Bill and Lisa.

We wanted to thank you for our wonderful weekend at Jordan Lake Studios! Your place is gorgeous but even more spectacular is your hospitality! The highlight of our stay was definitely the bonfire and visiting on your front porch on Sunday evening. We'd love to come back and do it again sometime. Sorry we didn't see you Tuesday morning to thank you and say good bye.

We had everything we needed, and more, in the rental house. Everything is decorated so beautifully. You two have thought of every need. And we loved all the Easter touches, especially the jelly bellies! We were so comfortable from the minute we arrived; you make it very easy to relax.

We wish you the best and hope we'll have a chance to rent your place again. We'd love to come back! We'll get a post on the VRBO site too. Thanks so much!

Christmas Cabin Experience

  • 5 of 5

My oh my, this property was more than we ever imagined. The pictures were wonderful, but didn't quite prepare us for the spectacular accommodations!

The kitchen facilities are always important to our family as we cook most of our meals when on a vacation, and TRULY this kitchen was state of the art! I wanted to bring it home with me!! It's provides a delightful "playground" for those who enjoy cooking and baking as much as we do. Our traditional Christmas Cookie Bake Off was especially fun!

We had nine in our party (seven adults and two little girls, ages 4 and 22 months) and the home was spacious enough for all of us to dine together, fellowship all in one area - yet, we are were afforded as much or little privacy as we wanted or needed. One of the adults was less than four weeks from delivering full-term twins and slept in one of the upstairs bedrooms. She thoroughly enjoyed our time in the property and felt very relaxed and comfortable during our stay.

The owners, Bill and Lisa, could not have been any nicer! They were there to welcome us when we arrived inquiring to see if there was anything we needed to make our stay even more pleasant.

The entire place was BEAUTIFULLY decorated for Christmas, inside and outside. They had even put up a Christmas tree for us (non-decorated, at our request) so the girls could decorate it with homemade ornaments made during our stay.

This home is only about 15 miles from plenty of shopping and dining opportunities which makes it a very convenient choice. We would love the opportunity to stay in this property again in the future and would definitely, without hesitation, recommend it to anyone needing a place to stay in this area!!

Wonderful relaxing perfection!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a unexpected really great time at this adorable home. We cooked a large Italian meal and even shared with the owners. They allowed us and encouraged us to use their herb garden which was nice having fresh ingredients right outside our door! The row boat and pond were nice and peaceful and the pictures we were able to get of the scenery look as if they were straight out of a magazine. We longed for nothing and truly enjoyed our stay. We plan to return again during the Duke football season. I'm pretty sure we brought the Southern California wearher with us because it was beautiful the entire time. We even enjoyed light music and a visit one evening on the owners porch candle lit overlooking the pond. It's home away from home if not better because there are no chores nagging you to get done! I highly recommend this beautiful location and these beautiful people. Enjoy!

Not what we expected

  • 3 of 5

As a previous reviewer mentioned this has so much potential. Pros: Quiet, wooded setting, plenty of yard to play in, owners are friendly and accommodating. Cons: The home felt unclean and had a strange smell when we arrived, well worn holey furniture, many of the claimed amenities are broken, and the internet didn't work.

Owner's Response: I don't know what "felt unclean" means. It takes about 5-6 hours to clean the entire home including mopping all the floors. The internet works fine and we have Two Wi-Fi routers to connect to if one works better for you. The guest told us they could not get on the one in the house and Lisa said she would come over and re-set it and the guest said "thats ok, we'll use the other one? The password is posted on the refrigerator. It sounds like another person who is technically challenged. We did not hear anything from the guest as far as the amenities being broken and we cannot fix the circuit board that is in the door of the frig that another guest previously had broken, just open the door and get the ice from the ice maker. I spend a lot of time constantly maintaining the rental, power washing patios and sidewalks and doing routine maintenance. I am also in the building industry so I have the tools and knowledge to repair most anything people break. I guess it's true that after over 46, 5 star reviews, "You can't please all the people all the time".

Potential to be great, but much to be aware of.

  • 2 of 5

POSITIVES: Owners friendly-went out of their way to provide information on activities in the area, and helped when we had a special need. Appreciated their understanding when our daughter "decorated their tree" with fishing lures. Home is spacious and suited our needs. Close to beaches and a great biking/hiking trail. Big yard and plenty of parking. A/C worked fine. Lake would be fun for young children.

NEGATIVES: There is a problem with home's sewer system. Overwhelming odor and our volleyball's having rolled into a long strip of gross black sludge put a damper on outdoor activities. Grill is extremely dirty/greasy--igniter does not work--owners instructed us to remove grates and stick hand deep into grill to light with butane lighter--dangerous! Two of the extra blankets had huge, gaping holes in them. Refrigerator very dirty--for sanitary purposes, it should be thoroughly cleaned between guest stays. Horseshoe pit was advertised as amenity, but was missing a horseshoe, so we couldn't use. Water/ice dispenser on fridge not working. Saw one inch-long cockroach on great room wall during stay. Bikes advertised as amenity were not ready for our use upon arrival and we ended up having to get them ready ourselves. Internet weak. Owners request ECO-friendliness with towel washing, but how do we know that the previous guests did not mix up which towels they did/did not use? We feel that concern for a guest's comfort when it comes to towel and blanket washing should outweigh concern for the environment (and owner laundering cost) when in the business of renting a home. Toaster oven old/rusty and full of crumbs. Pots/pans not the cleanest. Bring your own pancake griddle. Owners, while accommodating, are extremely concerned with rules, and are always watching.

BE AWARE: There are 21 steps from ground floor to 2 upstairs bedrooms. One upstairs bedroom has a water bed and a futon for sleeping, rather than traditional mattresses. Owners are ever-present during your stay, which definitely feels uncomfortable. Decor outdated. A main road borders one side of the lake, and you must cross a dip using some decaying boards to walk completely around lake. Owners may do some gardening in view of the patio and house during your stay. Lake and fire pit are in direct sight of and close to owners' living quarters.

Owner's Response: I could say a lot here in regards to all the negative comments. As far as the septic field goes, after numerous rainstorms during the spring my mower sunk into the wet yard and did make a rut and got stuck in mud about 5 feet long. The yard is about 1 1/2 acres of lawn. The grill is always cleaned after each guest and we cold clean it and leave oil on the grates so they don't rust. All the linens and blankets are new and the house sleeps 7 in beds and the futon is for children or an extra bed. The old wool blankets are for outside at the fire pit if you get cold at night. The refrigerator is always cleaned with bleach as well as all the bathrooms, floors are cleaned with water and vinegar. The prior guest threw the horseshoe into the woods over losing the game. Sorry about that. The water and ice dispenser circuit board was also broken by a prior guest. The ice maker does work but you have to take the ice out with a scoop. And out here in the country with the NC heat and humidity, you will get a cockroach (Palmetto bug) in the house as well as wasps or flies if you constantly leave the doors wide open while it is 90 degrees outside and the A/C is set on 65. I should have known how hard it was going to be to please this guest when after about 1 hour on site, she came to my deck and said, ("John had an ant on his leg, could you come over and spray the patio") The concrete Patio is 16 x 44. This guest was constantly calling and texting me for something and was very demanding. I had a new seat for MY mountain bike and had not put it on before they arrived. Her husband loosened one nut and put the seat on for her. The nylon cover on my gel seat was torn by someone else. As far as the small bridge over pond water inlet, it was destroyed during this past January ice storm when a van went off the highway and crashed into our pond. The DOT is scheduled to fix the bank and clean out the trench, I have to replace our convenience bridge. Yes we were putting in plants after having been waiting for the rain to stop so we could get $100.00 worth of plants into the "pick your own" herb garden and the big vegetable garden. This renter would have had 10 complaints after being invited to the "White House" by President Obama for dinner.

Beautiful place with great outdoor space. Wonderful for a family gathering.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and the property is great for family get togethers. Kids had a blast exploring the great outdoors in a way that reminds me of when we were young. Catching lightning bugs.. Playing tag, looking for roads and frogs. Really an awesome place

Comfy at home feeling

  • 4 of 5

Lisa's hospitality is unlike any I've seen in a very very long time. We were in town for the 2016 Ironman Raleigh 70.3. Lisa and Bill went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed, from printing out the weekend weather report, to printing out some of the Ironman information, and even preparing the fire pit for S'Mores. We were surprised with notes taped to the door with weather updates, and race encouragement, and even allowing us a late checkout if we were tuckered out from the race and wanted to sleep in a bit. The house has everything we needed and we really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay here again. Two of our group were spectators and since the house is on the bike course, they were sitting along the course when Lisa brought out some noise makers and was even cheering us on herself! Don't let me give you the wrong impression, Lisa and Bill respected our privacy, while at the same time were very supportive and ensued we had all that we needed. We had 5 adults in our group, which fit well in the house.
