Our cottage in Canadian Lakes sits on a beautiful private lot with direct lake frontage on Lake Laura. This quiet meandering no-wake lake is perfect for your paddle boat, kayak, small trolling boat, canoe, or rowboat. Dockside views frequently include Bass, Sunfish, Perch, Geese, Loons, Ducks, Blue Herons, Turtles, Turkeys and Deer. Many birds migrate through the Canadian Lakes area and can be seen in abundance seasonally.
Whether enjoying a good book, a cozy fire or the views of nature, the warm cottage atmosphere invites relaxation. The main level has an open floor plan, with wall to wall lakefront windows, and includes a fully supplied kitchen with all the conveniences, and a family area with a wood-burning fireplace. Other first floor amenities are a spacious bedroom with queen size bed, a full bath, and a separate laundry area. The loft also provides guests with an amazing lakefront view, a second full bath, and 2 additional bedrooms (one offers a queen bed, the other 2 twin beds). The yard has a manicured lawn sloping gradually into a sandy beachfront. The lake descends gradually and has a soft, sandy bottom, perfect for children. A dock and rowboat are available for your use seasonally. There are also beach toys, lounge furniture and Bocce Ball for your enjoyment. Parking for a maximum of 3 vehicles is provided.
Located only two and a half hours from most Detroit suburbs you can enjoy a vacation filled with fabulous memories. At the Canadian Lakes Clubhouse you will find The Mayfair Grill, an indoor pool with slide, fitness center, sauna and hot tub. All are accessible with guest passes, which are provided. In warmer weather, three beaches, an outdoor pool, tennis courts and basketball courts are nearby. The main Canadian Lakes are all sports lakes and are a short drive from the cottage. Pontoon boat rentals are sometimes available on the main lakes. Canadian Lakes is a private resort and therefore only residents and their guests can use the lakes.
Canadian Lakes Resort maintains 3 golf courses. The Highlands with its hills and valleys is a favorite among the locals. Take advantage of the golf carts while you enjoy this 9-hole course. The Pines, a 9-hole flat open course, is less challenging, but great as a walking course (carts are available). The Royals offers 18 holes, has a pro shop and the Mayfair Grill. It is perfect for a more challenging course, but still lady friendly. All courses are exceptionally manicured. Golf pros are available most days. Check with the clubhouse for tee times and more information. Additionally, two world-class public golf courses (St. Ives and Tullymore) are within the Canadian Lakes Resort area and often provide discounts to Canadian Lake residents and their guests.
Autumn brings breathtaking colors as the leaves begin their descent. It is a great time for bike riding around the many resort lakes. The fall colors of Canadian Lakes are on the recommended driving tour of Michigan’s Fall Color Preview. A winter wonderland, this area is at the bottom of the Northern Michigan Snowbelt. The wonderful winter weather accommodates winter sports including cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding. Adjacent to the Highlands golf course is a sledding hill for children and adults alike. Following sledding you can take a relaxing moment to enjoy the views of the Castle while sipping a hot chocolate at the Alpine Haus.
For those who like to stay busy, Canadian Lakes offers a great variety of local activities. While vacationing you may be lucky enough to attend one of the CLPOC Theatre Guilds performances or the well attended Art Festival. There is an annual Oktoberfest with traditional entertainment, food, beverage, and dancing. Enjoy participating in fishing tournaments, golf tournaments, and educational programs for children. There is a seasonal Pig Roast, a Fourth of July Boat Parade and an exceptional fireworks display. If this is not enough, the Soaring Eagle Casino is only 40 minutes away.

We are a part of the new generation of Grandparents; youthful, active, outgoing, and loving life. We share common interests with other couples that we have met at Canadian Lakes. Our love of the water, fishing, boating, golfing, bicycling, cross country skiing, nature walks, cards and board games can all be found right here year around. It is a little slice of heaven. We love to have our children, grandkids, and friends come for a visit. It is always a grand time and they can't wait to return.
The Owner purchased this house in 2001
This was our second year at the cottage on Lake Laura. Of course, the home was perfectly clean and had everything you would imagine. We spent a month this time for a vacation that we look forward to all year. We loved sitting out on the deck and just watching the calm lake and commenting on how the water looked like a mirror. One of our favorite things were the sunsets every evening. We didn't miss a single one. We enjoyed the quiet and played bocce ball and croquet (which we brought with us). Our sons came for around 10 days. The enjoyed the rented canoe and in the evening the fire pit. They said the skies were so clear at night it was full of stars. All in all we just enjoy being at the cottage and forgetting all the everyday things going on back home in Florida. The small boat and motor was a nice thing to have for boat rides and fishing around the lake. We saw a family of turkeys in the back yard and of course there was a lot of deer feeding along the side of the roads. Thanks for another great time and we plan on being back again next year.
This lake house is truly a home away from home! Our family was there the week of July 5-11, 2015 and had just a grand experience. It is a wonderful house in a beautifully landscaped setting with amazingly well-organized details that make it so very accommodating for renters to walk in, set-up, and enjoy immediately with minimal effort. The owners have created and maintained an amazing print-version binder that tells you everything you need to know about the use of the house. Fishing off the dock and from the dinghy became a daily habit for us. The sandy beach area is a terrific place for little ones to safely be able to play in shallow water. We can't tell you how much the owners have thought of and provided: from lots of deck furniture on a very extensive deck - to the fire pit - to an amazingly well stocked kitchen; there's no need to bring a kitchen tool with you - it's already there for your use! The house has warm, decorative touches throughout and lends itself to a "New England-like" feel. It's comfortably homey and also very tasteful. We loved having an extra refrigerator in the garage to chill beverages and hold larger pre-prepared dishes. The outdoor grill is clean and works great. Having a dishwasher in a rental was a great plus. The kitchen table comfortably seats six, and there's even an extra leaf in a closet, if you need it. Without reservation, we highly recommend this wonderful home on serene Lake Laura to you and your family; you're going to love it!
Our family spent two weeks at the cottage this summer. What a wonderful time we had with our two sons who were able to visit for one of the weeks. Lake Laura is just what we were looking for. The quiet, the beautiful sunsets and relaxation was just what we wanted for our vacation. We must say this is one of the best vacations we have had in a long time. We are from Florida where the summers can be very hot and muggy. We appreciated the cooler temps in Michigan. We had such a good time, we plan to come back next year for a month. Thank you for sharing your summer home with us.
We spent a week in this idyllic setting in late June 2014. The location on a quiet lake is perfect for relaxing with a good book -- or good friends. We really enjoyed the fire pit, as we wound down each day sitting in chairs on the sand and watched the area's wildlife (deer, frogs, fish, and fowl). The home is just the right size for 4 - 6. The open design and views out the large windows were key features. We found the different terrain - nicely cut grass and ample beach sand -- to be perfect for our 15 month old grandson. He played in each equally. the rowboat available was a nice way to explore Lake Laura. We had an outstanding time!
My husband and I took our 17 year old son and his two best friends on vacation for a week at the Warren's cottage on Lake Laura. It was the perfect spot for us as we love to kayak, bike and golf. We have never been to a place that was so great for all three! In addition, two of the boys are tennis players, so they were able to bike one mile each day to play tennis while the third friend ran and then joined them at the pool. They also made daily use of the Warren's rowboat while we sat on the dock and laughed at their antics. We made one day trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes, which was only 2 hours away and well worth the drive as it is one of our favorite spots. The cottage was spotless and lacked for nothing and was even better in person than in the pictures. I especially appreciated the well-stocked kitchen. The owners were extremely helpful and thoughtful. We all loved how quiet the lake and neighborhood were and can't wait to go back!
My family and I really enjoyed our stay here. The property was spotless and very well maintained. Our communication with the owner was excellent. The location was incredibly quiet are very relaxing. This was probably one our best vacations ever! My kids are already begging to go back next year. Thank you so much for sharing your cottage with us!
