Lovely place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Doc's Hideaway is a beautiful historic log cabin that has been well taken care of. I felt very comfortable and at home there and they provide you with all the amenities you would need. The location of the cabin is wonderful as you are in walking distance of the marinas, parks, boat launches and beaches. The only reason why I did not give it 5 starts is the sitting area is not right in front of the cabin as I thought. You will need to walk a tiny distance, but not the biggest deal. I would recommend this to a couple or family. A very pleasant stay!

Owner's Response: Sorry that you were dissatisfied with the location of waterfront patio. Noone has ever complained about that I guess because it says diagonally across the strest. Our rates reflect nonwaterfront. No where do i misrepresent the location. Glad you appreciated all we have done to make it a delightful retreat. Sorry we were not here to get you your jacket sooner. Hope that was not an issue. First 4 star review. Had one before added internet. We try.

Cozy, peaceful retreat -- very happy

  • 5 of 5

What a delight to spend several off-season weekdays at this charming and delightful cabin. Peace surrounded me: all I could hear was the sound of the wind in the trees and the crashing waves of Lake Michigan not far away. Having Newport State Park and other natural areas so close was an added boon. Terry Bott, cabin host, responds to all inquiries promptly, which proved helpful when I had little questions about this or that. Most appreciated was the welcome this cabin gave to my two dogs, who enjoyed hours upon hours hiking in nature followed by long snoozes in front of the wood pellet stove. Looking forward to returning sometime!

Such a cozy winter spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this cabin for a long weekend and what a nice spot to spend cold winter evenings. The cabin is snug, warm and clean. It has a nice big kitchen with a cozy dining area so we could cook and look out into the woods each night. Comfy master bedroom and an upstairs with multiple beds (great for larger families). Easy access to the lake as well as plenty of places to walk. Close enough to the towns if you want to go shopping or out to eat, yet situated in a peaceful spot so you can away so you can enjoy the quiet of the woods. The owners were so thoughtful and responsive. We will be back!

Perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

Finally, the perfect mix of great location, workable kitchen for cooking and entertaining, wonderful outdoor space and a great dog getaway. Terri and Kermit are ideal hosts - across the street, available and fun to visit with, but never fussy. The shoreline patio was just wonderful, we spent hours there.

And a little quirk of mine: I dislike rentals that are full of little notes: do this, don't do that. Doc's Hideaway has none of them.

We'll be back!

Wonderful little hideaway

  • 4 of 5

Stayed for nine nights this summer and couldn't have found a better place. It made a great base camp to head out from for exploring Door County. Very clean and well taken care of you can tell that Terry cares a great deal for the place. It's a quiet location too which makes it great even on the days you want to stay in and relax. Wireless was a little tough to stay connected to (it worked best in the main bedroom) though there are coffee shops close by with wireless if you need it.

Great place to call "home"

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been happier with our time at the historic Doc's Hideaway. A week-long getaway after the school year ended was perfect. Gills Rock is no more than 45 minutes away from anything you want to do in Door County, yet the spot is off the beaten path and so peaceful. You are 5 minutes away from the Washington Island ferry and 15 from Sister Bay. Lots of nice places to swim, eat, walk and relax very close by.

The cabin itself is excellent. Full service kitchen, with plenty of dishes and pots/pans to make all your meals. My wife even baked me a pie when we arrived! Modern amenities that don't take away from relaxation and family time, if that is what you are looking for. Plenty of ways to unplug and stay that way, but there is satellite TV if you need to catch the news or a game. Nice main bedroom and 4 twin beds upstairs for the kids. Firepit (used almost every night) and firewood provider next door, sitting porch, in-window air conditioners if it gets too hot (we didn't need them in June). Very comfortable inside and out.

The owners are very nice as well. Available if you need something, but no sign of them if not. They live across the street and make their pier and lakeshore patio available to renters. The place was great for our dogs too.

You will love it!
