Quiet and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

Our week stay was quiet and relaxing, just what we were looking for. The cabin is cozy and well maintained. The squirrels in the woods were entertaining. Thank you so much for the use of your beautiful log cabin.

Nice cabin, but the information, and photos about the cabin are misleading.

  • 2 of 5

This cabin itself was nice, but the rest was a real let down. There is no lake access, unless you walk down the street, and through the neighbors property. The opposite side of the street from the cabin is crowded full of other properties, and the lake can barely be seen. The fire pit was poor, and three of the four chairs around it were broken. There were dog feces in the grass, and bumblebees in the wall flying out right next to the back sliding doors into the yard. The kayak, canoe, and bicycles have to be borrowed from the owner, and watercraft launched on their private pier where everyone, including the neighbors can gawk at you. There were none on the property itself. This is not the place for you if you want privacy. Load neighbors parties on the weekend, and construction across the street were noisy. I would not recommend this rental. I could have gotten much better somewhere else for less cost.

Doc's Hide Away provides exceptional experience in Gills Rock

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently spent some time in Door County and, as always, made plans to stay in our favorite place--Gills Rock. We had walked by Doc's Hide Away many times while we stayed other places in Gills Rock, so this time we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The cabin is very, very nice. Clean and very nicely appointed, Doc's Hide Away provides a very comfortable home away from home. We loved having the yard and the fire pit, as well as the seating area by the bay. Can't think of anything that wasn't good about Doc's Hide Away, although perhaps leaving it would qualify there. If you're looking for a comfortable and exceptional value in a beautiful setting, try Doc's Hide Away. You'll not be disappointed. And, hey ... a welcome loaf of banana bread provided by Terry Bott was another highlight!

Lovely place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Doc's Hideaway is a beautiful historic log cabin that has been well taken care of. I felt very comfortable and at home there and they provide you with all the amenities you would need. The location of the cabin is wonderful as you are in walking distance of the marinas, parks, boat launches and beaches. The only reason why I did not give it 5 starts is the sitting area is not right in front of the cabin as I thought. You will need to walk a tiny distance, but not the biggest deal. I would recommend this to a couple or family. A very pleasant stay!

Owner's Response: Sorry that you were dissatisfied with the location of waterfront patio. Noone has ever complained about that I guess because it says diagonally across the strest. Our rates reflect nonwaterfront. No where do i misrepresent the location. Glad you appreciated all we have done to make it a delightful retreat. Sorry we were not here to get you your jacket sooner. Hope that was not an issue. First 4 star review. Had one before added internet. We try.

Cozy, peaceful retreat -- very happy

  • 5 of 5

What a delight to spend several off-season weekdays at this charming and delightful cabin. Peace surrounded me: all I could hear was the sound of the wind in the trees and the crashing waves of Lake Michigan not far away. Having Newport State Park and other natural areas so close was an added boon. Terry Bott, cabin host, responds to all inquiries promptly, which proved helpful when I had little questions about this or that. Most appreciated was the welcome this cabin gave to my two dogs, who enjoyed hours upon hours hiking in nature followed by long snoozes in front of the wood pellet stove. Looking forward to returning sometime!

Such a cozy winter spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this cabin for a long weekend and what a nice spot to spend cold winter evenings. The cabin is snug, warm and clean. It has a nice big kitchen with a cozy dining area so we could cook and look out into the woods each night. Comfy master bedroom and an upstairs with multiple beds (great for larger families). Easy access to the lake as well as plenty of places to walk. Close enough to the towns if you want to go shopping or out to eat, yet situated in a peaceful spot so you can away so you can enjoy the quiet of the woods. The owners were so thoughtful and responsive. We will be back!
