About Brent Sprinkle

I grew up camping in the mountains and continued this as an adult. When my wife and I first started looking for a vacation place we knew we wanted to be in the Boone, Blowing Rock area. After years (literally) of looking and the addition of two kids we decided a condo would best fit our requirements (low upkeep). We ultimately found a new unit in Echota on the Ridge with everything we wanted - a great, long range view, really great amenities, and very close to Boone and Blowing Rock. Bonus - it was an end unit with views on all sides, not just out the back. We've recently (spring 2010) decided to rent it out and hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do.

Very nice, well appointed, beautiful condo!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and Brent was very easy to work with. We began with a 2 day booking and decided to extend and remain another night. Brent made this a painless process! it was a last minute trip for us and we couldn't have been happier with the accommodations.

The only complaint I would have is the fees charged. The condo rented for $200 a night, but for this short stay (3 nights total) our cost was right around $850 + $350 security deposit.

We'd stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the positive comments. Having rented for years before we purchased, we are well aware that there are a ton of rental choices in the High Country. We've used our rental experiences to help set ourselves and our place apart from the other choices. We want our guests to feel like they are staying at a friends place, not just some tired rental unit. We decorated and furnished it as a home, not a rental. We offer touches like paper products, coffee and wine to all our guests. And we provide local knowledge / information to help folks feel at home. We believe that if we treat you well, you will in turn take care of our place - so it's good for both of us. Regarding the rates, I'll share a little background so other potential guests can understand the various components. First the nightly rate - I set this about a year in advance and have rarely changed it year to year. It does fluctuate based on weekend vs weeknight, weekly vs daily, and seasonally, which is common among rentals. Second is the cleaning fee, currently $85, which goes straight to my housekeeper. Third, there's a 12.75% tax we pay on each rental (Watauga county and State). The nightly rate, the cleaning and the tax are typical for all rentals. BUT there is one more fee - as of June 2016, HomeAway/VRBO started charging guests a Service Fee that's between 5% - 9 %. This has not been well received by homeowners or renters (feel free to Google "VRBO Service fee"). I looked into alternatives for listing/renting our place but unfortunately could not find a service that offered equivalent market awareness along with the services (calendar management, payment processing, etc). My contract with VRBO renews annually and I continue to look for suitable alternatives (or hope the fee debate will result in some changes), but in the meantime I'm still using them. I hope that helps folks understand the rates/fees. Oh and finally of course, there's the Security/Damage Deposit but it's fully refundable.

Great weekend

  • 5 of 5

The condo is great. My elderly parents had no difficulty getting around. The view is fabulous. We had such a great time. Brent is so easy to deal with. We could never figure out how to watch "regular tv" (at my parents request) but everything else was awesome. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone and would love to return for another weekend myself. Thank you so much!!

First Time In the Snow For These Alabamians!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in several VRBO properties over the past couple of years. They have all been nice. This is the first time that we have ever been absolutely blown away! The condo fit 2 adults and 3 amped up children comfortably with room to spare.

- Seriously one of the most beautiful views we have ever seen is what you wake up to every morning!

- The road up was incredibly well maintained. 5 inches of snow during our stay, not a flake on the mountain road on the way up! **More on that later!**

- Everything inside is modern and clean.

- The gas fireplace is one of man's greatest achievements on a cold winter day. The one in the condo was so very welcome many times a day!

- Comfortable beds. Clean linens. Not a single mystery stain to be found!

- On a quick run through the grocery store on the way in, my younger son's job was to grab laundry detergent. When we got to the condo, we realized he had grabbed fabric softener. They had some laundry detergent in the cabinet! (Don't count on that though, I have a feeling we got lucky, but it's great example of the homey welcome-y accommodations that run rampant through this place.)

- Seriously, the board games and puzzles are a great touch. We had brought our own, but digging around we found a new favorite game in the cabinet called Swap! I couldn't even begin to count how many games of Swap! we played... We ordered it on Amazon on the way home.

We loved every single thing about this place. My wife is not easily impressed, and SHE loved this place. We went snow tubing at Hawksnest (Awesome!) But, mostly we just played in the snow around the condo. I'm 37 and had never seen more than a half inch of frozen rain in my entire life. None of my family had. So, we had a blast just throwing snow at each other. So imagine what you can get into if you're not THAT impressed by the snow!

Now, back to that "clean roads" thing. Our GPS somehow glitched out (I'm an IT guy, so I'm pretty proficient and still have no idea what happened here) and led us up the wrong mountain 15 miles away from the condo. Those roads WERE NOT cleared...AT ALL! So, from one dumb Alabmamian to anyone else unfamiliar with snowy mountains, if the sign says "If the lights are blinking, 4 wheel drive or snow chains are required beyond this point" and the lights are need to stop and get some snow chains and put them on. Because they're $200 to have them delivered when you get stuck on top of the wrong mountain...
