About Chris Craig

Hello, and thank you for visiting our vacation rental. My family and I purchased this log home in October of 2008. We have been coming to the Northwoods all our lives. My husband has family in the Rhinelander area and we love the beauty and tranquility the Northwoods has to offer.

Chris Craig purchased this house in 2008

Why Chris Craig chose Northern Wisconsin

We chose this area because of it's pristine beauty. The majestic red pines swaying in the breeze takes my breath away. The view of a Bald Eagle swooping over the shimmering, crystal blue water is magnificent. The brilliance of the Northern Lights is unmatched by any fireworks display.

What makes this house unique

We love to sit on the front porch in the morning with our coffee and paper and watch the dew evaporate off the grass and just listen to the birds. Roasting marshmallows by the campfire is a special treat for the kids. The evening is so wonderful with the sunsets and at night, after we put the kids to bed, we turn on the exterior lights over the deck and read by the window - there is something spectacular about viewing the trees through this artificial light...it's breathtaking.

Winter on at the lake

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is gorgeous with all the trees, and view of the lake, when the snow is falling! Beautiful! I enjoyed the fireplace, bottle of wine, and a great book....the kids and my husband went ice fishing. Watching movies playing pool, darts, ski ball, cards, board games, puzzles, and napping were highlights of our time there also.

FYI...they caught two northern, but they were too small, so back into the water they went! And about 8-10 Blue gills! It wasn't a lot, but they had a great time!!

We were there over New Years Eve, and were delighted that we ate delicious food without a reservation.

I LOVED the time we spent here! Great memories with my family. That's all I wanted for the holidays. Time with my family.

Thank you Chis for letting us enjoy your home!!

Beautiful cabin and location

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful vacation at this beautiful log cabin located on scenic Bass Lake. The cabin was impeccably clean. The kitchen was stocked with every possible cooking utensil. The recreational room in the basement provided lots of entertainment with the pool table, shuffle board and arcade games. Bass Lake is a clear beautiful swimming and fishing lake. We enjoyed being able to launch our boat and keep it tied to the pier for the week. Excellent fishing including Bass and Perch. Eagle River is a great location with plenty of state parks with beaches located nearby. Also, little shops and restaurants to enjoy.

The only draw back to this cabin is the restriction of linens. We were not able to comply with washing, drying and making of all beds before check out of 10 am so we opted to bring our own linens. This was not ideal and a bit stressful to worry about bringing all of our own sheets and bath towels. Additionally we were expected to vacuum and sweep and since this is a large cabin we spent the last night cleaning.

The renter is prompt with communication and easy to contact.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive feedback, we are very happy that your family enjoyed their stay. Kids and Adults love the game room/theater room/bar area in our walkout basement and it is because we have such a large home that we are able to have those extra amenities. We provide linens/towels/dish rags/etc. and renters are able to choose to bring their own. We offer linen/towel cleaning for an additional fee but don't include it with the rental price for renters, it helps to keep the costs down. This is a large home ~ 4,500+ square feet and the cleaning fee is just that - another fee - most families choose to keep their costs down by cleaning up throughout their stay (like they would in their own home) instead of paying the extra fee. Please contact us if you have any questions, we are happy to work with you to make the most of your stay. Have a Great Day in the North Woods!

Had a great time

  • 5 of 5

We had 4 families (15 people) stay at this place for a 3 day weekend. The place is very nice and spacious. The only unfortunate part was the sub-zero temperatures that kept us from enjoying the winter outdoors. We did manage to ice fish on Saturday and did very well, catching 10 northern and around 30 panfish (all released). Because of the frigid cold, we (the adults) were thankful for the downstairs game room, pool table, dart board, shuffle board, arcade games, you name it! The kids loved it down there and although I would normally unplug the kids from that stuff and get them outside, this was very nice to have available. My wife has to work-out and there was a place in Eagle River that allows you to pay per visit, so she really appreciated being able to have access to the facility. Overall, if you have a large group or family, I would recommend staying here for sure.

Here's The Only Thing Wrong With This Beautiful Lake Home - It Is Too Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

I'll start off by saying that our two weeks at the Craig's log home (read home not cabin) on picturesque Bass Lake seemed more like a couple days! It is just too perfect, and the time zooms by way too fast!

This was our second summer at this very, very special place on this perfect lake. Last year we stayed in this beautiful home for one week. That was too short. This year it was two weeks; once again too short! The pictures provided here are accurate, but do not do the reality justice. It is stunningly beautiful!!!

There were ten of us there, but this home is so huge and perfectly arranged it never ever seemed crowded in the least. My gosh, there is seating for 20 for dinner! The perfect kitchen has a Pizza Oven!!! That made cooking for the kids and cooking for the adults so easy! The Craig's home is warm and inviting and perfectly arranged for evening family games of cards, charades, and numerous boardgames that are readily available. The downstairs has a big screen TV with surround sound along with arcade games and a second kitchen and sauna. Oh my, once again.., perfect!

And that lake.., beautiful Bass Lake; perfect for fishing, skiing, swimming from their sandy beach in its crystal clear waters. And sunsets on the Craig's pier are nothing less than breathtaking. The Craig's are very kind, responsive, and keep their word!

This perfect place really and truly has it all. I highly recommend it and truly look forward to being there again.., for three weeks!

Highly rated family vacation

  • 5 of 5

High end, well appointed home in one of the most beautiful parts of Wisconsin. Bass Lake, while relatively small, is large enough for water sports, very clean, and has lots of fish. There is lots for the kids to do on those rainy days too. Highly recommend this property as a great family getaway.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive comments. We love that Bass Lake is just under 300 acres and doesn't have all the chop of the larger chain lakes. It is perfect for water skiing, tubing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, fishing etc. In fact, just completed a kayak trip around the shoreline, no chop, just like glass.....magnificent!

Heaven on Earth at Bass Lake Retreat

  • 5 of 5

This Bass Lake home is just that; it is a little slice of blissful heaven on earth. We were a party of 12. In this spacious and impeccably beautiful lake home (cabin is not a fair word for their pristine retreat), it felt as if there were only a few people present at any one time. Even meal were made easy with a perfectly equiped kitchen and three dining tables. There is ample space and fabulous amenities to tend to everyone's needs rain or shine.

The landlords are warm and caring people to work with. Their pictures simply do not do justice to the reality of their home and its location. It is, simply stated, the perfect place. The home is very clean and obviously well cared for with loads of TLC. We all would highly recommend this property to friends and family. The town of Eagle River is a mere ten minute drive away with all goods and services anyone could possibly require. Yet when you pull up the long wooded driveway to their home it feels private and deep in the north woods.

The vast sandy lake bottom extended from their pier in all directions. It made water play and lake access all the more enjoyable! And for those getting cold from playing hard in the water hours on end, the dry sauna downstairs took away the chill fast. The fishing is unparralleled with ample pan fish readily available for a special fish fry dinner event. We caught a three pound bass just casting off the pier near sunset.

Speaking of sunsets. Don't miss one of them. They are pure magic sitting on the bench at the end of the pier and taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of beautiful Bass Lake. Everyday brought us visions of Bald Eagles fishing. They would expertly dive for their catch and fly to nearby tree tops or an empty pier to feast. Be sure to bring binoculars and/or zoom lenses to capture those special moments.

In the morning we would rise and walk down to the pier with a warming beverage. It is simply the best way to wake up!!! The experience we shared was so enjoyable we have already decided to go again next summer for two weeks, because one week wasn't long enough to enjoy the pure essential magic of this beautiful Bass Lake home. I am already counting the days to our return visit.
