Our two-bedroom apartment, named Calder's Flat, is a smart hotel alternative for tourists, visiting family, or working professionals looking to stay in Park Slope. The private entry leads into the spacious and elegant apartment, all on one-level. Two bedrooms sleep four people while a pull-out sofa bed is available for two more. Each bedroom can be privately accessed. The well-equipped kitchen is bright and modern with full-size appliances. On-site washer/dryer. Sorry, no pets, no smoking, no garden access.
Two blocks from shopping, services, and restaurants; area info provided. A pleasant ten-minute walk to the 2,3,F, or Q trains (with easy connections to 4,5,A, or C trains, and LIRR). Lower Manhattan is 20 minutes by subway; Midtown, 35 minutes. Two week minimum stay. Rates for longer stays available upon request.
Washer/Dryer: A washing machine and dryer are available in the basement for private guest use at no additional cost.
Not a Walk-Up: After three steps down with handrail and one step up at entrance, all rooms are at the same level.
This is a private home with owners living on-site: NYC's law banning short-term rentals or recent battles with AirBnB does not affect Calder's Flat. Guests stay in the separate garden-level unit while my family and I live upstairs.
Jackie saved my life and kept me from having to stay in the original hotel I was booked in. This place is awesome. I will figure out a way to get to come back!
This was our second stay at Calder Flat and it was just as perfect as the first.
The apartment is so roomy and comfortable. And the location is perfect. Very quiet and an easy walk to shops, restaurants, subway, and Prospect Park.
And Jackie could not be kinder or more accommodating.
I was so excited to bring my family with me to NYC for a month-long business trip. A long saga, but in the end, my work required that I stay in a government-approved hotel instead of this beautiful property. Anyhoo, Jackie was so accommodating, so eager to please her prospective guests, and then so understanding when it all went kaput. Heartbroken we won't be able to stay there, but any of you thinking of renting in Brooklyn, look no further. You won't find a better host.
We stayed in this beautiful, charming garden apartment for 5 wonderful days over Christmas 2015. It is large, beautifully restored & furnished, & the perfect accommodation for 4 adults (2 couples), as well as the several other family & friends who visited to spend time with us during the holidays. We were comfortable & had everything we needed for our stay. The beds were firm (very important!), the linens & towels high quality, & the amenities impressive. On the kitchen table was a bountiful basket of goodies: fruit, chocolate, crackers, snacks, a bottle of wine, etc., with beer, milk, juice, & other items in the fridge. Jackie, the host/owner, is very friendly & gracious. She welcomed us warmly and made us feel at home immediately. She gave us tips on restaurants, grocery stores, & other area features. We even had our own "granny cart" for shopping at the Park Slope Food Co-op (don't worry, our son who lives in PS is a member) and other nearby stores. Jackie did so many nice things to facilitate our stay, both during the rental process & during our time at the flat. She was a dream to work with. The flat itself is marvelous: the entire ground-level (not basement) floor with private entry, in a notable, historic, early 20th century brownstone, once the family home of a US Senator for NY. Jackie has hung some very interesting historic documents and her own write-up on the house history. The open living & dining area is spacious, with seating enough to accommodate all of us. We even had room for a small Christmas tree (our son's fiance's first!), which made our holiday gathering very festive. But perhaps the most wonderful thing during our stay was that we were able to cook (in full kitchen) & serve (in the beautiful dining area) a fantastic Christmas dinner for 7 people. The kitchen is huge, enormous by NY standards, very well equipped. Jackie graciously provided us additional pots, pans, and dishes to help us prepare our feast. Lastly, location, location, location: that aspect of this flat is outstanding, with close access to the subway, groceries & other shopping, & only a block off Prospect Park! The only tiny negative was the slow, sometimes iffy wireless. Otherwise I can't say enough nice things about Calders Flat. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, we created some very special moments, & had a family Christmas to remember for a lifetime. We will return to this gem in Park Slope. Thank you Jackie, for allowing us to enjoy Calder's Flat!
Felt like a guest in a lovely home. Walk-through apartment is immaculate and exactly as represented. Kitchen has everything you will need. Bathroom is large and even though it is the access to 2nd bedroom, it was not an inconvenience. Bedrooms have ample closet space. A helpful binder was provided with all necessary information to find closeby local shops, restaurants, markets and subway stops (2-4 blocks away). Located on a beautiful, tree lined street and one block away from Prospect Park, it was perfect for morning walks. Jackie thoughtfully goes above and beyond to provide all the extra comforts ~ including a guest basket packed with gourmet food items ~ plus extra seating and a serving table for a Sunday brunch gathering after our daughter's wedding. Incredibly gracious and accomodating. Highly recommend, but be sure to leave me a week for my next trip to Brooklyn! (Lynn H.)
Our daughter's family, my husband and I were fortunate enough to have rented this flat for three nights while we attended a family wedding in Brooklyn. It is a wonderful flat. The owner is very responsive to emails, and though she wasn't in town when we arrived, her housekeeper was waiting at the flat for us to let us in and show us around.
From the moment we walked into the flat, we felt at home. There was a wonderful tray of goodies, very thoughtfully selected by the owner with our grandchildren in mind (and I might say a few adults as well...) The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we would have needed to cook full meals, had that been our intention.
As for the flat itself - it is just as pictured and described. It is accessible, comfortable and lovely. The beds were great, with high quality bedding. The sofa bed in the living room was comfortable as well. The bathroom was light and bright, with access from both bedrooms.
Our only regret is that we did not have more time to spend there to explore the area a bit more. We would definitely like to return to this flat - it is wonderfully situated on a quiet street not two blocks from restaurants and half a block from Prospect Park.
We highly recommend this lovely oasis!
Calder's Flat is exactly as pictured on this site. It was very clean and Jackie had a basket of assorted snacks and beverages for us. The beds were comfortable and the apartment was very quiet. Jackie has included many nice touches for her guests including a small notebook computer for her guests use. Calder's Flat is less than a block from Prospect Park and the neighborhood is full of families - really lovely. We would stay here again.
Other Activities: Saturday Farmers Market, summer concerts in Prospect Park
