This is a beautiful location.
This was our first time renting a cottage in Montauk as opposed to staying in a hotel. We went with another couple and wanted a place with our own bedrooms with a comfortable common area so that we could eat, hang out and talk and this cottage met the criteria. It was also a short walk to the beach and very secluded from the main road. Alison was there to meet us when we got there and was very helpful with any questions or additional needs that we had. It was clean and quaintly decorated. From what I am told, a lot of the cottages built for only summer use in the similar price range are on the older side, with a rustic feel, and dank smell to them, as was this one. There were 2 bedrooms. The master had a comfortable king size bed, high ceilings and big windows that let in the early light. There were no room darkening shades. So, if you are able to sleep in a fully brightened room it shouldn’t be a problem. There was also a nest or 2 of baby birds living under the roof. Not sure when they leave the nest for good but they tended to get up and started chirping around sunrise (5am) which made sleeping soundly after 5am in the master bedroom a little challenging. The other bedroom was smaller (b/ still a good size) with only 1 window and shades that blocked out the sun. I know that a lot of people prefer a firm/hard mattress but I would consider bringing a foam mattress topper for additional comfort. The kitchen had all the amenities that we needed for our stay and the living room area was very inviting and comfortable. One last thing that didn’t take away from the amazing time we had but did prove to be a bit of an annoyance was the amount of flies that were in the house. When the windows were left open to take advantage of the fresh air/breezes, it appeared that they came in though the small holes in the screens. Needless to say, the fly swatter came in very handy
We loved the location of this little cottage. We brought our 2 year old son and dog and thoroughly enjoyed that we could easily go to and from the beach several times a day. We also loved that dogs are allowed on the beach in the morning and at night. The outdoor shower was a delight. The decor of the cottage was thoughtful. The owner couldn't have been sweeter and her daughter babysat one night so we could have a date night. Ditch plains beach is right across the street and the sand was wonderful...the cliffs are gorgeous! The water is rough so it's not exactly wading/swimming water...lots of surfers (fun to watch). My only complaint was that the mosquitos in the yard were so terrible at night we couldn't make use of the fire pit. I don't know if it's because the property is well shaded and surrounded by privacy shrubs, trees, etc. or if everyone in Montauk experiences this in July. Certainly not in the owner's control, but it was a bummer. Once the sun set, we ran for cover! Bring bug spray!
Our young family had a wonderful weekend stay at this Ditch Plains Beach cottage. Everything we needed was there. The owner couldn't have been more a more gracious host. And she was more than willing to answer any questions prior to the rental. The playhouse in the yard for the kids was TERRIFIC. And we loved sitting by the fire in the yard at night. Description of the cottage was spot-on and the photos hardly do it justice. We would totally rent this home again without hesitation.
I have rented many properties and this by far is the best of them all.
Right across the street from the beach, but totally private. This house is exactly what you want when you think about a charming well done beach home. I am booking again for next year!!!! We loved it.
