It's a wonderful place to stay if you want to be centered in the Puna District of Hawaii (Kalapana), which is one of the most beautiful places on earth.
This is a sunny spot of the island where there is less rain! Although it rains much less down here, Kalapana remains green and beautiful.
Many people come to Kalapana to visit Volcano National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us.
There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, geothermically heated ponds, snorkeling, whale watching w/ dolphins that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska.
You can often see them from land swimming off our beautiful coastal park and in the Kehena Beach area.
Many of my tenants tell me that they were able to swim w/ the dolphins and you can too.
This is the place for water lovers - we have what you need at no extra charge: snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, noodles for your swimming pleasure. Did you know that the best and safest snorkeling area is just down the road in the Kapoho Tide pools?
You can easily navigate all of these places from Coconut Palms, it has come to be a very popular spot 'right in the center of all of these attractions'.
For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time.

Aloha, we fell in love with Hawaii while on vacation and decided that we wanted to live here. Can't think of a better place on earth to live that 'right here' in the Puna District. Come see it, you may never want to leave.
Andre and Susan purchased this house in 2009
We love Kalapana-Seaview Estates which is a very nice, safe, family oriented community situated next to Kehena Beach in a very beautiful, remote coastal area in the Puna District of Hawaii - The Big Island. Kalapana is 'the Hawaii' that everyone dreams of and quite different than the city of Kona. We live in the Kalapana area ourselves and absolutely feel that it is the nicest part of the entire island... you will too. You may not want to didn't.
The property is within walking distance to the coast and has an ocean view. If you are looking for a great place to relax, hike around, and enjoy a remote, quiet, tranquil and peaceful part of Hawaii - this is it. If you enjoy farmers mkts, we have one just 1/2 block away.
We also are connected w/ a lava tour guide who provides Lava Boat Tours, hiking tours to the lava flow, sport fishing trips and more at the best price.. Just ask us for more information.
We recently were honored to have visitors stay in our 3-5 BR house from 'Cirque Du Soleil'. They stayed 3 days and left a very thoughtful note when they left.
Andre and Susan,
Thank you so much for letting us stay here at your beautiful home. We all had a lot of fun. We got home late last night so I didn't want to call to wake you.
We signed this program for you! Our show is called Amaluna!
Hopefully one day you can come see it live!
Hope to see you again soon! MAHALO!

We really enjoyed our stay at Coconut Palms! It is on a rural side of the island and did not disappoint being in a neat location. We loved going to the local farmer's market only 1/2 block away on Saturday and the sheer beauty of the area was lovely. The home had two rented studios as well and we had fun meeting the others that stayed there. We even had friends rent a studio and join us for a few days which was very convenient! The 3 bedroom home allowed plenty of space for our family of 5. Only two small critiques - I could not find the cheese grater for the life of me (it may have been there but I could not locate it) and it would be appreciated to have mattress pads on the beds for hygiene-sake and comfort. These two small things do not diminish or take away from the fact that we were very satisfied with our stay and hope to return in 2015! We felt the home provided excellent value. The photos and description were very accurate and the property was clean and comfortable. Miguel even paid my son $5 to catch a local chicken - which he proceeded to do (only for entertainment purposes, mind you). It was quite memorable to say the least! We highly recommend Kopoho Tide Pools for snorkeling (some of the best we've EVER experienced), The warm water pool, The Sunday drum circle at Kehena Beach, The lava flows visible only 10 minutes away in Kalapana. Tasty ice cream and grub at the Kalapana Cafe about 10 minutes away. There is plenty to do in the area but be aware this is not on the main drag - it's a bit off the beaten path which we sincerely appreciated and loved. Thanks for having us! See you in a couple of years!
This was a great base for all of our activities! It was nice to have a house to come back to for a good night of sleep. We visited the black sand beach, snorkeled the tide pools, spent a day at Volcano National Park, saw several waterfalls, did a trek up Mauna Kea....we had good access to everything from this location! It was also really nice to be able to make a home cooked breakfast and enjoy it on the deck every day. Dinner at Kaleos was delicious. Uncle's Market on Wednesday night was also a blast! Great food, fun atmosphere, live music and only a few minutes away-
The owners are very friendly and helpful. We arrived extremely late and got no complaints when we showed up for the keys, even got a quick tour. As a side note, we had a small issue during our visit (no one's fault, things just break sometimes) and it was taken care of right away!
By looking at the price, we did not expect a house so clean. Everything looks new and the kitchen had every thing we needed. Andre was quick to answer questions we had about activities in the area.
We stayed here two nights while visiting family in the area. The house was well stocked with all of the supplies we needed for a comfortable stay (linens, kitchen staples, etc). The location is close to the lava flow and we were able to go visit the lava entry at night, it was a truly amazing experience. The location is also close to many other acivities such as the kehena beach, warm ponds and tide pools. We were lucky enough to view the supermoon off of the cliffs at the park at the end of the subdivision road. The only downside is that we were only able to book for two nights before moving onto the other side of the island.
The property was fine and close to the lava flowing into the ocean, volcano region, small black sand beach. Needed air-conditioning though!
The property is 15 mile past Pahoa, 25 mi from hwy 11--long drive! But close to Kapoho Tidepools, Warm Pond and Kalapana Lava viewing.
Well constructed, nice lanai. Upstairs tower room has double bed.
Studio was good value with full bath, mini-kitchen (but no sink).
NO i-phone reception!
We arrived during tropical storm Darby. Neighbor was very helpful!!!
Driving instructions were vague on distances. The turn-off to hwy 137 is 9.8 miles (listed in directions as "several"). We were driving it in the pouring rain, and it was very difficult to navigate our way!
The Church on the left just before the turn-off is Star of the Sea Church.
Also, the house has small Coconut trees, not small Papaya trees...
Dolphin and Whale viewing visible from beach/land during winter mos. HAWAIIAN FARMERS MARKET is 1 block away.
We also have a licensed massage therapist who provides discounts to our clients and teaches yoga classes to those interested.
