Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a marvelous time and the last 5 days were a dream come true!! Your home is fabulous. Your attention to detail is exquisite. The new chandelier is breathtaking. The pool, the views of the ocean, the rooftop patio, and the fountain were even more beautiful than we expected. Manuel and Luisa added an authentic flair to our Mexican experience & were such a pleasure to be around.

Unbelievably perfect vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

This is actually my SECOND stay at Villa Escapar, and it is as perfect the second time around as the magnificent first impression it gives when you first arrive. The house is stunning - everything is perfectly maintained here; constantly updated with new linens, dishes, furniture, etc... The owner seems to be more on top of maintenance than most hotels around this area. The location is perfect as well. Quiet, but close to everything; and the beach out back is lovely! The caretakers clean and rake the beach sand every morning, so that when you wake and emerge from your incredibly comfortable, air conditioned, plush room to have your coffee under the palapa on the beach - it looks like a postcard! The water is crystal clear and the morning sunrise is beautiful. The pool overlooks the water and is the perfect spot for lunch or dinner (in the water at the swim up bar!). Inside is literally everything you need.... if you are wanting a truly relaxing stay, you really don't even have to leave the house to see all the beauty of the Mayan Riviera. If you do choose to do outings, there is so much to do and see all within 10-15 minutes of the house. We went to 2-3 different cenotes all within a few miles of the house; as well as days worth of shopping in Tulum, and all the beach front bars you can handle! Needless to say, the location of the house is ideal. The caretakers on site are there as much or as little as you'd like. They can cook anything you'd want to eat, make you the best margarita you've ever had, arrange a spur of the moment fishing trip, have you a massage ready on the back patio when you wake up, recommend places to go; really whatever you could need, they can help you with. Manuel and Luisa have been taking care of guests at this property for quite some time it seems, as they have it basically perfected. All in all this place is perfect and I look forward to my next stay here!

Magnificent

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Villa Escapar. It was absolutely beautiful. The views were spectacular. Luisa and Manuel, the caretakers, were lovely. The Cenote near the house was the best. There was a lovely restaurant just down the way that we had some of the best meals of our lives. You really don't need to go anywhere. The Villa has everything you need. Beautiful pool, beautiful view, and walking distance to a bay and a Cenote. 15 minutes outside of Tulum. We will definitely be back.

Believe the Hype - A Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I booked this amazing home for 4 couples. The owner, John, encourages telephone contact for questions, and I took him up on it - unbelievably responsive. I texted John with questions ranging from transportation logistics to tips on restaurants to groceries, etc. He called me back immediately after each text. Two of his many tips:

1-buy your liquor, duty free, at the airport - much cheaper and better than in town.

2-Send John a grocery list of essentials/mixers/snacks, etc, and he will have the house stocked for you.

Transportation - We got a round trip Shuttle ride ($185 R/T+tips) through USA Transfers (Not "TRANSFER USA" - different company) I've used USA Transfer 6X now. We immediately had the driver stop at a local gas mart for beer for the ride; much cheaper to do it that way than pay for a prestocked cooler. I did a lot of research on a shuttle v. renting a car, and John was helpful in this as well. There are lots of cabs local to Villa Escapar, it's only a $12 taxi to Tulum, and we saved a lot of $ and aggravation by not renting a car.

The House - I'm not sure the pictures here actually capture how beautiful the house is, and how breathtaking the views are. The house is big enough so that we could all have our own space, yet still intimate. I had the primary master bedroom, and the sunrise from our panoramic window was exquisite.

Luisa and Manuel - impossible to adequately state how perfect they made this trip for us. John had noted that they would be as present or absent as we wanted, meaning they could simply do the housecleaning, or they could do all the cooking and keep bringing us cold drinks. We chose the middle. Luisa cooked us 6 dinners and 7 breakfasts - all authentic Mexican/Mayan dishes per our request. Her cooking is amazing, the food fresh and plentiful. We also requested her guacamole every day at 3:00. There is an extensive list of what she can cook, although we told her to cook whatever she wanted for a few nights. Manuel made daily runs for whatever we needed, and the two of them kept the house/grounds/beach immaculate. They are also two of the most hardworking and friendly people around. Luisa doesn't speak English - at all - but it was never a problem.

The beach is pristine. Going in the water requires water shoes - believe it!

Try out the awesome new beach bar at O Tulum, just 100 yards north. They also let us use their bikes for free!

As one of my friends said, "Best. Trip. Ever!"

Incredible Experience

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay at Villa Escapar. John was easy to get a hold of in setting up our rental and the house caretakers Manuel and Luisa were top notch in every way. My whole family whole heartedly recommends Villa Escapar and will be looking forward to repeat visits.

Nothing but the best

  • 5 of 5

I have to say the this property is the best we have rented on Home away. The property is set at the North end of Tulum on a secluded beach. A couple of houses share the beach but no big hotels or high rises near your private location. Manuel and Luisa are perfect hosts tending to whatever you need. We had a big group and Luisa was up for the challenge to prepare some unbelievable meals. The property has every amenity needed. Would highly recommend you stay here.

BEST FAMILY VACATION. AMAZING MEMORIES

  • 5 of 5

I don't even know where to begin. With a large group like we had and 4 babies, it's impossible to find a vacation home spacious enough to keep you from killing each other. Villa Escapar, made our vacation a dream vacation. More than the amazing home, the amazing caretakers Manuel & Luisa made life so simple. Don't get me wrong, the home is more amazing than the photos and every inch of it is very well maintained inside and out. If you're lucky enough to get one of the 2 master bedrooms with the large curved windows, I recommend sleeping with the windows open. When it gets dark, it reveals the stars and you feel like you are sleeping in a planetarium... AMAZING.

I agree with all the reviews, the cooking is better than any restaurant. Hands down the best pico de gallo I've ever had, which was made fresh every day for our large family. If it's not on the menu, just ask, they can more than likely make it... like my craving for octopus. We went fishing one day and Manuel did all the cleaning and cooked them up 2 different ways. I wanted to treat the kids to lobster on the last day, and YUP, fresh caught lobster arrived. In short, the level of service is as good if not better than any five star resort.

We were also lucky enough to be there for turtle hatching season, so if you can somehow plan your trip for that, it truly is an experience of a lifetime.

The rocky water did not allow us to swim in the ocean safely, but the swimming pool was a much better option and safer for the little ones. But if you're an adult that have to swim in the ocean, be warned, a few of us tried going out and got cut up pretty bad.

In short, take it from someone who read all reviews and write many on tripadvisor, this place is all that and more. And, yes we gave them a great tip when we left, and they deserved every penny of it. We will absolutely return... if they'll have us. Haha. Te amo mucho Manuel y Luisa y gracias para todo.
