One of New Orleans' most unique vacation lodging properties: the Engine 24 French Quarter Firehouse... one of the few VRBO properties that is licensed by the City of New Orleans for short-term rentals! Stay in an authentic historic firehouse while enjoying the modern amenities of this renovated gem. Much of the furniture was updated recently, too!
We are located in the heart of the Faubourg Marigny, considered by many travel magazines to be one of America's hot neighborhoods. Next door is the French Quarter, one of the most historic and charming areas anywhere. And to the other side is the hip, funky Bywater, a neighborhood which, like the Faubourg Marigny, features great local eateries and cool bars.
Our guest house is a restored fire station designed to function as a comfortable home away from home for tourists and locals alike to come and enjoy the vibrant culture that is New Orleans. Formerly, this historic building housed Engine 24 of the New Orleans Fire Department! Local architect William Sonner purchased and renovated the Firehouse in the 2000s and it's now one of the city's most popular vacation rentals!
The Firehouse has 7 bedrooms (each with one queen bed) and 7 baths and sleeps up to 14 people. The main Firehouse building combines with the courtyard's Townhouse building to provide a place that is perfect for getaways with friends, family gatherings, etc.
The Firehouse has two large private living areas and a newly renovated New Orleans courtyard with fountain, grill, outdoor seating and more. Please remember that the Firehouse is a lodging facility. Any special events, parties, receptions, etc. must be agreed to by the facility manager and extra fee(s) will apply.
Please note: The Firehouse is a very popular building and usually books weeks or months in advance. We're often in phone or email contact with multiple groups for the same dates. The first party to initiate payment or provide proper credit will enter into a reservation with us!

The Firehouse is owned by two successful businessmen: one a noted local architect (who oversaw the renovation!) and the other who owns/operates an popular upscale home & lifestyle store in the swanky Old Metairie neighborhood.
John purchased this house in 2000
The Firehouse building oozes with charm and history. The location is great, too, for those who want to be close to the craziness but in a REAL New Orleans residential neighborhood. And how often can one say they stayed in an authentic firehouse!? It's fun to imagine what it must have been like when the New Orleans Fire Department's Engine 24 called this building home for so many years. The owners and manager strive to provide a clean, comfortable and fun base from which guests can explore New Orleans.
The Faubourg Marigny is such an interesting neighborhood on its own, with great restaurants, clubs, coffee shops, etc. Fantasic 1800s architecture everywhere, too! And of course, the French Quarter is just a few blocks away, as is the French Market, the Mississippi River, St. Roch Market (a must-visit on your stay) and more. If you're visiting for a sports weekend, both the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the Smoothie King Center are a quick 1-2 miles away.
What a great find. Cool, funky (in a good way), clean and full of character and charm. Our group of 14 guys had so much fun hanging out and celebrating our friend Brad's upcoming wedding. Low-key bachelor party with lots of quality time spent with friends. Two guys are deploying to Afghanistan next month so it was especially great to have time with them! The location not too far from Frenchmen Street is great and the French Quarter is close too. Be sure to check out Mimi's bar, one block away. Good music (but no DJ any longer) and interesting people-watching!
We stayed at the Firehouse with our two kids, mother in-law, and 8 friends for New Years. The place fit us very comfortably. It is located in a really hip part of New Orleans, walking distance to great bars and restaurants. For those with kids, there is plenty of space to play inside the house, and it is walking distance to two parks with playscapes. It is an older building, so when the kids woke up early upstairs and were thumping around, we had to tread lightly such as to avoid waking up the downstairs guests. We had a lot of rain, and the upstairs windows leaked, but it didn't disturb us at all. The property manager was responsive and helpful when we needed it. Only request is to fix and tune the piano downstairs :). All round, we would definitely stay here again!
Engine 24 served as the perfect backdrop to celebrate not only Thanksgiving with our entire family but my parent's 50th Anniversary as well. Originally from New Orleans, coming back home was made easy by renting the firehouse! My siblings from New Jersey, Maryland and Tennessee returned to the scene of the crime 😍Everyone had a place of their own with 7 bedrooms with their own baths, while the penthouse allowed plenty of space to hang out and enjoy each other's company. The courtyard served as a lovely spot to enjoy drinks outside. The kitchen was a great place for breakfast and snacks, but we decided to eat out many nights since we were so close to great restaurants and the French Quarter. We walked to Snug Harbor for the best burgers! Thanksgiving we had breakfast at Oceana Grill and TuJaques for a glorious dinner. Each place accommodated all 16 of us with a private dining area...simply perfect! The owner of the firehouse was terrific as she ensured our comfort to the best of her ability. A few upgrades would be to have access to the temperature control within the house, in such a large house it was hard to adjust for individual needs. Also, there should be a mini fridge in the downstairs snack area. A serious residential area, some neighbors were suspect to see such a large group, but we invited them to see the large home and unique decorations that keep the firehouse theme. They were impressed and greeted us sweetly going forward.
Would we come back? Of course!
This is a unique property in a trendy part of town with great bars and restaurants that is also conveniently close to the French Quarter. It's great for getting together with fiends and hanging out. A perfect home base from which to explore New Orleans.
exactly as detailed and great for a large group of people
The house was very unique, clean and overall a great space for lage gatherings. Big common areas inside and out made for great setting for our large party. With 7 individual bedrooms and pull out sofas there was plenty of room. Only drawback is that there was no common bathroom. Every bedroom has a bathroom with is very nice though. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a unique stay for a large party.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the New Orleans Firehouse, simply put it exceeded all my expectations. We were amazed the moment my party walked in on how impressive it is. The Firehouse was able to blended modern style seamlessly within it's historic roots.
All 7 bedrooms were large and comfortable, the upstairs living area offered a great place to gather and relax before or after going out, and the tall ceilings everywhere made it feel immense. It's best feature, I thought, was the downstairs living area. Which has two large fire doors that open creating an extremely unique outdoor space. My party spent hours sitting down there drinking, laughing, having fun all while enjoying the great weather and taking in the fun flavor of the neighborhood.
Speaking of the Firehouse's neighborhood, I was very impressed with the Marigny-Bywater area. This was my second visit to New Orleans and the first time I've stayed outside the French Quarter. I felt this added to our trip making it more unique and less "touristy". The neighborhood is very lively and had a ton going itself. My group spent hours just a block west of the Firehouse at the Lost Love bar and lounge. A few blocks east of the Firehouse are some very eclectic restaurants and cafes, and a little south of it is a beautiful river walk, all nestled within a friendly, colorful neighborhood with tons of character. However if you're worried about staying outside the French Quarter, DON'T BE! With a mix of walking and Uber we never felt too far away from all the action.
Of course a 110 year old building is going to have it's wear and tear. Some of the floorboards squeak, the stairs up to the second level are a workout to get up, the 110 year old lock on the master bathroom door did not work, and yes when raining there was some leakage. But not nearly to the extent some other reviews have suggested. The property manager Nancy, who was wonderful to work with, seemed more concerned about that than me. Any negatives of the Firehouse were only a minor inconvenience, this property is overwhelmingly impressive and a great place to stay.
Everyone in my party would agree that our trip to New Orleans was better because we stayed at the Firehouse. We can claim our stay was a more unique, positive and different experience than anyone else because we chose this property. I hope I'm fortunate enough to one day stay there again.
Within 15-20 blocks of the Firehouse are several HUNDRED bars and restaurants, museums, music clubs, shops, etc. You'll also find amazing 19th century architecture, including the Firehouse itself! The Firehouse is formerly a New Orleans Fire Department neighborhood station housing Engine 24, renovated into a guest house in 2004.
