Ilchester Place is wonderfully situated between Holland Park and High Street Kensington. As well as the excellent shopping and a wide selection of restaurants on and around the High Street, our apartment has the added advantage of overlooking Holland Park Gardens, considered to be one of London’s most beautiful and romantic parks, an oasis of green with specimen trees and lovely shrubs. There is also a cricket field and tennis courts. Holland Park has a reputation as an affluent and fashionable area, known for attractive terraces of large Victorian townhouses of which Richard Branson owns one!
Our flat is on the 5th floor with a lift, and the whole flat has a light and comfortable feel, and is in excellent decorative order throughout. The spacious and nicely furnished living room covers the length of the flat with windows at both ends overlooking trees, the tennis courts and cricket field. At one end of the room there is a sofa, two armchairs, coffee table, desk and a Digital Free View TV with a Virgin Box, at the other is a rectangular dining table and seating for eight at one end of the room. WiFi is available.
Next door is the kitchen with electric cooker, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher and microwave. There is also a small breakfast table with three stools.
In the master bedroom the twin beds are made up as a king double (they are zip/link). Dressing table and built-in wardrobes. The 2nd bedroom is small and has full size single trundle beds (i.e. the 2nd bed sits below the main one and can be pulled out for a 4th person). Built in wardrobes and a desk.
The tiled bathroom, off the hallway, has a power shower into the bath, plus a hand basin and toilet. Next door is a separate cloakroom with a hand basin and toilet.
This apartment offers a great location with Holland Park for those relaxing moments and High Street Kensington for your retail therapy, good transportation to some of the Museums and Art Galleries, and all on your doorstep.

A Waitrose supermarket is just three minutes walk from the flat, and a “Whole Food” organic store, covering six floors, apparently the largest in the world, is just 7 minutes walk away.
Holland Park and Holland Park Theatre are right on the door step. Kensington Palace, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park are a good walk up Kensington High Street. Knightsbridge, Harrods, Harvey Nicholls, Royal Albert Hall are only a short bus ride away. The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Victoria & Albert Museums, Brompton Oratory – are also only a bus ride away.
This flat served the two of us very well for our weeklong stay. As others have pointed out, it is spacious and quiet, has views of Holland Park and the surrounding neighborhood, and is ideally located in Kensington. Management was very helpful and gracious. Overall, we highly recommend this flat and would stay here again.
My family of four (2 adult daughters) stayed at this flat for two weeks and had a wonderful time. The flat isn’t huge, but is more than ample enough to accommodate the family. Each bedroom comfortably held us, with good beds (a pushed together king in one room and a trundle bed in the other) and plenty of closet space to hang things up. The primary bathroom was fine, with a shower over the tub, and the second half-bathroom was a help getting all 4 of us ready in the morning. The kitchen was fully stocked, with a full-size refrigerator, a stove and a dishwasher. There was also ample flatware, silverware and glasses. The kitchen also has a European-style washer/dryer, which got the job done although not quite to American standards (the landlord was kind enough to keep a drying rack in the closet though). The living/dining room was big enough to seat our whole family comfortably, and allow us to watch the World Cup in the evenings. Wireless internet was also provided, and was strong enough to handle all of my family’s various devices concurrently. That was much appreciated. The flat was not air-conditioned, but the London weather was thankfully very accommodating to leaving windows open. An upper floor provided plenty of security, beyond the key to get in the building and well-locked door to the flat.
The flat is just off of Kensington High Street which provided easy access to 3 different tube stops. High Street Kensington was closest, but Earl’s Court is just a bit further as is the Holland Park stop. Of course, once you’re in London and on the Tube, you can get ANYWHERE. A Waitrose grocery was just down the block, and we were able to find a number of good pubs and restaurants within a short walk. Kensington Palace and Hyde Park are also fairly close, certainly within walking distance.
The photos provided with the listing are very representative of what the flat is like. Communicating with the owner was wonderful. We had a number of emails back and forth with the owner very responsive and truly wanting to help make our visit pleasant. We’re very appreciative of the care we were given. Lastly, while London is obviously an expensive city to visit, we found this property to be a very good value versus an extensive review of other properties. We would highly recommend this property to those considering it!
Excellent location:on a beautiful, quiet street just off Kensington High Street overlooking Holland Park. The rental management was excellent: responsive, helpful and anticipated our needs.
My husband and I stayed about 12 days in this lovely apartment in London. We found it to be beautifully furnished and roomy. It had huge windows in every room which looked out onto park spaces. The apartment was spotlessly cleaned when we got there. The kitchen is large with all the appliances you could need.
We loved the fact that you could grab a quick bus (they came about every 2 minutes) to ride to Kensington High tube or you could walk there in 15 minutes. There are numerous neighborhood stores, big grocery stores and ethnic restaurants so it is easy to eat well!
And finally the managers are so delightful to work with. They are gracious and helpful. I would strongly recommend this property.
The flat is in a great location with easy access (5 minute walk) to bus and underground lines.
We were initialy disappointed with the flat because it needs upgrading, which the agent says is scheduled for the winter 2012. The agent responded within hours to our requests for a new microwave (the old one caught fire the first morning we used it), new pots and pans (the old ones were unusable because of rust), and a new mattress for the single bed.
We would highly recommend the flat, if renovating is done.
We stayed at 19 Park Close for eight days, right before the Olympics, and loved every minute of it. Sue Rogers was a fabulous help and was incredibly responsive to my many questions! Our ten-year old son played in Holland Park daily (the playgrounds are a 3-4 minute walk away), we jogged through the park and neighborhood daily and we all loved how close we were to the various Tube stations (we used High Street Kensington and Holland Park most often). Hyde Park was a short walk away but we loved Holland Park so much that we focused our energies there. Though the flat could use some minor updating (happening soon, I believe), it was quite clean and gave us plenty of room to stretch out. It was wonderful to bring groceries home from Waitrose and actually be able to do laundry before heading home! We actually felt like locals the week we were there. The building itself was safe and very quiet but we did hear peacocks in the morning and the Holland Park opera at night, which was lovely. One highlight of staying there is that we saw Jimmy Page twice and actually had a chat with him once (Google him if you don't know how cool that is). This is a great place to stay if you want to be in a safe, posh neighborhood that is perfectly situated and if you prefer to live more like a local than a tourist!
