About Nick Deslonde
I Purchased this home right before Hurricane Katrina, but of course Katrina did a little damage to the down stairs of this home which was completely renovated. During that time I found work in other areas and decided to move to the beach to become a beach boy. I wish I could pick this home and property up and move it to my new location but I cant so I hold it as a great place to stay for a getaway and a place to stay when I do business in New Orleans. The home is protected by a security system as well as local neighbors and friends (not to mention a police officer that lives in plan view of the home across the street) that look after the place and make sure nothing bad happens to it. It is in a very secure area but its nice to know the backup is there while I'm gone.
Nick Deslonde purchased this House in 2005
Why Nick Deslonde chose Slidell
This spot speaks for itself. It was too beaufiful not to pass up. It gave me the feel of being in the islands somewhere since the property is surrounded by bamboo trees and natural growth.
What makes this House unique
The Views, the wildlife, the dock are just a few things that make this house memorable.

This property was everything that we expected. Perfect set up and had everything that was listed. The property manager was very responsive to questions and made the experience easy. We will stay here anytime we are back in the area. This is how VRBO should be! Thanks Nick for making our experience fantastic.
It was so nice to have a place to meet up with my grown children and their families! There was 13 of us, plenty of room! The four teenage boys loved having their own space in the downstairs bedroom. They had heir own living area, 1/2 bathroom and was right next to he garage where they played darts and ping pong.
Everyone enjoyed fishing and a small alligator came up daily to greet us! This lovely home has a spectacular view!
We enjoyed he open concept of he living/kitchen/dining rooms for visiting and board games.
The back yard stayed wet during our visit but their was adequate front and side yard area for the children to play. The home owner was easy to contact if anything was needed.
Nice location, nice owners!
Great location and the house is very roomy. Accomadations were great for our family vacation.
The trip was for a family Spring Break vacation. The host was very accommodating. He took care of issues and repairs needed from previous tenants. Will definitely rent this house in the future.
Good casual place to stay
Overall this is a great place to stay, far enough yet close enough from New Orleans and on a beautiful bayou location. So here's the great the good and the be aware of
1. the owners are the nicest most responsive and communicative VRBO owners I have ever dealt with. We had a few issues and they could not have been more responsive. Nick went above and beyond to ensure that we were happy and our stay met expectations. We had a few small issues and Nick not only communicated quickly but got the issues fixed in record time.
2.OMG THE BAYOU IS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. The weather did not cooperate for us to bring chairs out there but we sat on the dock for quite a while. The amount of birds were astonishing and it was amazingly peaceful. Location is not far from the highway, close to swamp tours not a bad drive to New Orleans.
3. Several good restaurants in Slidell Palmettos and Times Grill are fabulous.
4.Ample towels, lots of dishes, newer appliances, comfy beds on main floor.
5.Big table for gathering and rocking chairs in screen porch for gazing out at nature.
1. Ample parking
2. Carport if it rains
3. Newer funiture
4. Lots of upstairs closets
The be aware of
1. The stairs to the main floor. For people with bad knees or heavy suitcases the stairs can be a struggle, there's a lot of them.
2. The bedroom downstairs . In our opinion the bedroom downstairs is for appropriate for younger people. You have to walk up a steps to the bathroom toilet throne and that's a little disconcerting for those of us over 60. If there was a closet downstairs we could not find one.
3. Lack of hangers. We ended up buying a bunch at Walmart and leaving them there. I am sure something like that walks away frequently, just be aware if you're bringing a lot of clothes that you may have to do the same.
A suggestion I would make for Nick is that while there are a lot of light outlets in the bedrooms a lot of us who travel have gotten very used to being able to plug our phones in right next to the bed.Maybe consider purchasing a nightstand light with the plugs or a USB plug on the bottom
all in all it was a wonderful home to stay in for what we wanted to do in New Orleans and the surrounding areas. if we ever come back to New Orleans we would definitely run this property again
House is not as nice as pictured - basement is downright gloomy
The first impression is that the pictures on the internet made the house look much more beautiful than it actually is. I am glad my brother and sister-in-law didn't make it from France, because they would not have wanted to stay in the downstairs area.
The upstairs area could use some improvements (definitely need blinds at the windows, we had to hang some blankets to get some privacy and block out the daylight), the pullout couch in the master bedroom has a very old mattress with odd stains, which needs to be changed ASAP.
The kitchen could use more silverware (it was okay for our family of 8, but considering the amount of sleeping spots, there is no way you would have nearly enough silverware for 20 people).
The downstairs area is gloomy, dark and humid, there were no paddles to play on the tennis table set, the fussball was broken and couldn't be used. The studio has a concrete floor (it probably floods easily there, since they are on the bayou), the toilet is the size of a closet with broken tiles. It's fine for a group of college kids who just want to hang out, but not a place middle-aged people would enjoy staying at.
The place is a good 40 minutes from the French Quarter in New Orleans, and sits on a remote street. Slidell doesn't have much going on, so plan on driving to New Orleans every day.
The owner is very friendly and responsive. I hope he takes into accounts what I just listed above to make much-needed improvements to his rental house.
We certainly appreciate our renter reviews and, as most can see from our past reviews, we maintain an average of 4.75 stars with most all our renters loving our home, the location, and even the many things the local town has to offer. However, we realize not all reviews will be as positive as the others and that each renter has a right to their opinion of our home and the location. When renters voice legitimate concerns such as the broken paddles listed here, it gives us an opportunity to correct what we can an as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, a recent group had damaged some of our games but after this review we quickly removed the broken foosball table and ordered brand new ping pong paddles and new darts for the dart board. Had we known about this renter’s concerns during their stay we would have acted very promptly to remedy and purchase new items needed for their enjoyment. As an example, the stains mentioned on the pull-out mattress were brought to our attention the very first day of their stay and were found to just be small rust spots near a metal hinge of the pull-out mattress. We are somewhat confused why it was mentioned in this review as the stain was removed to their satisfaction before they even slept on it the very first night.
Regarding a few other items mentioned: We keep all our additional silverware for bigger groups in the island cabinet, so a simple call is all that is needed to give us the opportunity to tell our renters where things might be. However, maybe we could improve on that by having a printed list of items not as visible. The sleeping area of the bottom portion of the home was recently renovated with brand new white paint and new decorations that we're confident look exactly like the pictures. However, on a gloomy day it may very well look a little darker so in addition to the hardwood ceilings we are installing this spring we'll look at adding even additional light to brighten it up. Most all agree, the living room upstairs has a beautiful view of the bayou and the natural light coming in so we have never intended to add curtains to block that out.
The location is exactly as described in our listing, close to New Orleans but just far enough to enjoy a little serenity from the city. It's only 30 minutes from downtown but, as anyone can imagine, New Orleans can be busy during seasonal events and might occasionally take a few extra minutes. We welcome all and are confident you will enjoy your stay!
Swamp Tours, and Tons of other fishing and picnic activities available. Close to Plantation House Tours, French Quarter, Superdome, Jazz Fest, Mardi Gras, and Convention Center.
