The following attractions are located within 30 minutes or less:
New River Foster Falls Recreation Area; New River Trail; Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabry Mill, Meadows of Dan, Galax, and Floyd, VA.
Conveniently located 3.4 miles from Virginia Highway 58 in Dugspur. Please contact us for specific directions.
This three level retreat offers a bedroom and full bath on each floor along with a full kitchen, dining area, and two living areas. It easily accommodates eight guests. Outdoors there is a large entertaining deck and three covered porches.
The upper level master suite features a king-sized bed and private bath with double vanities. For that romantic setting or private relaxation period, there is an airbath tub large enough to accommodate two. This bedroom offers expansive outdoor views as it opens to the living room from the balcony.
The main level includes a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances - large refrigerator, range, microwave oven, and dishwasher. The dining room flows to the living room where a cozy wood-burning fireplace and large satellite HDTV flat-screen is situated for easy viewing. If you prefer, take in the fresh mountain air by simply opening the double patio doors to the custom deck overlooking the river below. A master suite with queen-sized bed and full bath with steam shower is luxuriously appointed on this level also. For easy listening of your favorite tunes or a lively party, a custom built stereo system pipes music into the living area to surely please the most avid listener.
The lower level offers much open space. It includes a full bath with a walk-in cultured marble shower, large vanity, and large capacity washer and dryer. The bedroom closes behind pocket doors and includes two twin trundle beds. The living area includes a satellite HDTV, X-box, games, and lots of space for fun. Walk outside onto the private patio and look across to the other mountainside and flowing creek below. Beginning at this level is a beautiful custom wood staircase that rises to the third floor. Whatever level you find yourself on, it can become the most private or lively area of the home. Take your pick as all will please.
The natural beauty of the mountains is perhaps the greatest attraction. When you choose this retreat, worries evaporate, you relax, and reflect on what is really important.
You may opt to canoe the endless miles of trout and nature filled creeks and rivers. Or inner-tube and float downstream all day. The closest body of water is Big Reed Island Creek located at the base of the property. Choose your own type of fishing day or hire a fishing guide for the 'hot spots'. We can assist here. Check out Greasy Creek Outfitters.
If photography is your past time by all means bring your camera. Wildflowers are abundant from late April through the fall. You could encounter deer, wild turkey, raccoon, our resident groundhogs, bob-cats, and yes, black bears. If you see a bear please don't try to approach it or feed it.
If you wish to venture out, you have 27 acres of mountain woods to stroll on. Avid hunters are also welcome. Please adhere to local hunting regulations, use extreme care in the woods, and do not shoot your guns across the river where several deer cross daily. We will advise where we recommend deer hunting endeavors. If you plan on extended hunting trips we gladly welcome a 'walk in the woods' before the season starts.
For the jogger or walker, if it is a workout you desire, simply walk or jog up the driveway! If you make it that far, there are miles of country roads with your own built in jogging trail right on the property. With over a mile of driveway on the property, you will soon learn that a few laps around the woods covered drive is very relaxing. A walk back down the driveway for your 'cool down' and it's off to the aromatic steam shower! For the more adventurous joggers, simply take a left or right out of the driveway and wear yourself out on the hills through the mountain roads. Happy jogging!
For all of those '12 ounce curl sports enthusiasts' who would rather work out on the back deck, I can not think of a better place to open a cold one, turn on the custom stereo, and enjoy a few tunes.

Peace Lodge was not bought. It was created and crafted over a three year period. We took the natural surroundings the good Lord gave us to work with and carved Peace Lodge right out of the side of the mountain.
I do not care what you do for a living, the world is entirely too fast these days. At Peace Lodge we have created a natural and peaceful environment that is truly in touch with nature. Time does seem to slow down. When your vacation is over you will go home rested and relaxed. For my family that is what vacation is all about.
Thank you for a wondeful stay. The home is beautiful !! We had a great time. We would recommend a toaster :) Thanks for the kind comments. Regarding the toaster, got one!
My husband and I just arrived home from one of the most memorable weekends of our 8 years of marriage. We have never had so much time to ourselves to just be US, and this lodge allowed us to do just that. It forced us to get outside and enjoy nature and each other. We both agreed that we had more fun being "stuck in the mountains" with one another than we did on our honeymoon! We cannot thank Mark enough for the luxuous accommodations (we took full advantage of each and every one of them including the steam shower, wave tub, and "Back-to-the-Future" microwave!) and for sharing your château on the mountain with complete strangers! What a blessing it was. WE WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!!!
I went on a personal retreat to Peace Lodge and enjoyed my experience. Mark was very helpful in explaining everything prior to my arrival and gave me the instructions needed once I got to the house. The house was neat, clean, and looked just like the pictures. The atmosphere was so quiet and serene. I also thoroughly enjoyed the air bath in the master bathroom. The only reason I gave it 4 of 5 stars is because of the drive in. It's a little scary driving through the woods, but once I got to the house I was pleased. I highly recommend this house if you're looking for a secluded and peaceful getaway.
We stayed here a week and it was so peaceful and beautiful. The driveway was a little scary, but after a few times up and down you get the hang of it. Listening to the stream below and the stars at night was absolutely serene. We had a few weird looking bugs stay a few days outside the door, one looked like a green stingray, the other looked like a ripped leaf. Both were great to watch. I found animal prints by the deck (I think they may have been bear prints), but didn't see them. The Mexican restaurant in town was fabulous (and friendly on the budget), but if you want to cook, you have top of the line appliances. The house is gorgeous from the furnishings right down to the steam shower my husband fell in love with. Mark is a fabulous host, he checked that we arrived safely and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. You are in true nature at this home, so if you don't like nature and quiet, pick another home. Besides the creek flowing and bugs/frogs chirping, there is no sound. I was sad when the week ended and we had to leave. This home has 3 bedrooms and a bathroom for each. Each room is different than the next. It was OMG moment from the minute you walk through the door. To all of you on the fence about this rental...you won't be disappointed. Do it, it's gorgeous in and around the home.
My wife and I absolutely loved our stay at the peace lodge. The directions to the house that the owner provided were very easy to follow and got us there without any issues. The drive in was a little more adventurous than we were expecting. The roads quickly go from two lane highways down to one lane gravel mountain roads with steep inclines, declines, and sharp turns. We loved every bit of the drive but I could understand how others might be a little worried or weary about driving in this area. After a few times in and out of the "driveway" we felt more than comfortable with it and never had any issues. Once we got into the lodge itself we were blown away. The view was great, and we really got the feeling that there was no one around for miles. Grilling on the deck and playing chess while listening to the running water from the nearby river was exactly as advertised, peaceful. The house has a great kitchen and the bedrooms and baths were also above our expectations. We took a trip into the nearby town of Floyd and checked out the local shops and loved every second of it. So much so that my wife now wants to move to this area. Overall our experience was near perfect and the only issue is that we wanted to stay longer. The owner was extremely helpful in answering all of our questions and had everything clean and set up for us when we arrived. The only warning I would give is that if you are not comfortable driving on a single lane gravel road with a steep cliff on One side and hairpin turns, than this may not be for you.
This house is a great place if you are looking for something completely remote and off the beaten path. It was large enough for our group of 8, and well laid out with a bedroom/bathroom on each level. The kitchen was large enough for us and the deck was a great added outdoor space. Being on a crick added to the scenery and it was a nice walk down to the water.
The house is pretty gorgeous, clean and very well maintained, and the owner did a walk through with us over the phone when we arrived to help us understand where everything was/how it worked/etc.
One thing to note, you do not have cell phone service at the house but there is a landline and wifi. So it was nice to disconnect a little bit for the weekend. Also, you are somewhat far from any other businesses, so I would recommend bringing everything you think you may need, as you'll most likely not be going back out for it.
The drive in is a little white-knuckle-ish LOL. Once you get to the top with the switchbacks, it's a 'fun' drive down the driveway. It's not nearly as exciting going back up.
I would highly recommend this house for a romantic getaway, family outing or a girls trip.
Kudos to the owner for building such a nice place in the middle of a mountain!
This house is tucked away in a nice secluded spot away from it all. Inside is nicely furnished and fits the build and area perfectly. Outside there is a great creek/river that would be super to tube or kayak/canoe down to the bridge you cross on your way into the property a few miles off. There are miles of road you can walk and some other trails that can be walked and explored and of course climbing up the side of the mountains is fun with family and kids. Our three year old even enjoyed "bear hunting" as he called it and I had to assist and partially carry him up the side of the mountain from the river to the house as he would not take the trail and steps up but had to go with the big guys.
Deer appear to be all around as I walked up on a couple in the pitch dark when walking around the house to grab some fire wood. Scared both me and the deer I think....
As stated in the pictures and some comments there is a steep incline/decline to get to the property in a SUV/Truck as well as down to the river when walking but nothing a 3 year old couldn't handle :) As well as Mark provides an SUV with 4x4 if you do not have one.
Once you are in with food and drink you do not have to leave anyway. But if you do its ~10 miles to a grocery store if needed.
We look forward to coming back to Peace Lodge in the future.
