About Leslie Swindle

Summer resident for over 40 years, we spend summers in both of our two island properties, (Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury). This house maintains 'Island Charm', but with the comfort of space and privacy.

Leslie Swindle purchased this house in 2002

Why Leslie Swindle chose Martha's Vineyard

We spend a couple weeks of the summer here, and when we can't use the house we hope other families will enjoy it. The house is spacious, comfy, private and it feels like a home, not a rental. We are on Marthas Vineyard over the summer and take personal care in the upkeep of the house, and do our best to make your stay as plesant as possible.

Perfect house, location, and pool

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for the first two weeks in August. This is our eighth vacation on the Vineyard and this house, location, and pool are real standouts. The property manages to be conveniently close to farm stores (we especially liked the one at Ghost Island Farm), grocery stores, and good restaurants (less than five minutes to State Road Restaurant) yet so private and secluded that the peace and quiet is what struck us every day and night. Bunnies in the yard, deer in the driveway, song birds in the trees. The house and pool are oriented so that the pool is in full sun all day but the deck right next to it is in the shade. That keeps the pool water at the perfect temperature -- warm but still refreshing -- and gives folks who don't want too much sun a place to hang out in comfort. Pretty landscaping and plenty of chairs, chaises, and shade umbrellas. The house has two queens and five twins so perfect for families. Having one bedroom downstairs, with a full bath next to it, is also a great convenience for visitors who need to avoid stairs (or want to take naps after lunch!). The master bedroom upstairs was spacious, big closets, great bathroom en suite. The kitchen is well-equipped. Fast Internet. Attractive and comfortable furnishings inside; bunnies, deer, and song birds outside.

Perfect quiet sum we getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were two families with two eight year olds and a baby. The pool and outdoor eating deck were perfect and we spent most of our time there or on the beach. Perfectly quiet here and lots of space. The grocery store is right around the corner so it is easy to get stuff for dinner and not have to plan too far in advance. Our only suggestion is to bring a non stick skillet for cooking - otherwise the kitchen had everything we needed.

There is one queen and 5 twin beds (and twins don't really go together to make a king). we would have preferred another queen but not a huge deal. it is nice to have 3 full bathrooms!

Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the feedback. I am glad you had a nice time on this wonderful island and would love to have you back. I will purchase a nice new set of non stick pots and pans for the house right away. We are considering changing the bed distribution a little for next summer. A king will be put into the master suite, and an extra downstairs bedroom with a queen bed will be ready to use as well as the other two rooms with twin beds. We will make better use of the extra space in the house and hopefully provide more sleeping options for future tenants.

SWEET INDIAN SUMMER

  • 5 of 5

JUST AS WE THOUGHT OUR SUMMER HAD SLIPPED BY, WE (MY WIFE AND HER BROTHER AND HIS WIFE) ENJOYED A WEEK AT 22 JOSIAH SACHEM WAY. IT'S LOCATION MATCHED OUR INTERESTED PERFECTLY, EARLY MORNING JOGS ON WALKING PATHS AND SWIMMING AT NEARBY BEACHES (OUR FAVORITE: LAMBERT'S COVE BEACH). WE DISCOVERED A PLACE DOWN THE ROAD THAT SELLS AMAZING HOMEMADE PIES AND THOROUGHLY ENJOYED VISITING THE ART GALLERIES A BIKE RIDE AWAY! WHAT A DELIGHTFUL WAY TO SPEND TIME AWAY, WE LOOK FORWARD TO RETURNING NEXT YEAR!

Relaxing Gem in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

I have vacationed on Martha's Vineyard since 1981, I was lucky enough to stay in this home for one week in July 2013. The house was beautiful. It was well maintained, clean, relaxing, beautifully landscaped, has an incredible pool. I particularly loved the furnishings and the books in the living room. The beach at Lambert's Cove is absolutely stunning. The property is close by to the airport, all the towns, yet is quiet and peaceful. It provided exactly what I needed to relax and connect with my family. The owners were wonderful and took care of any concerns or questions. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who comes to visit Martha's Vineyard.

Disappionting at best

  • 1 of 5

My sister and I rented this property for the week of the 4th of July. Very private, which was great. Unfortunately, this was the only real pro in a list of cons. We had 2 12-year-old boys with us, so the pool was a strong factor in choosing this house. We were told only days prior to arriving that the pool liner replacement would be delayed due to rain and the pool would possibly not be available. Our reservation was made in February of 2013; plenty of time for this work to be completed but it had not even been started until 2 weeks prior to our arrival. We had 9 guests total and the worry and frustration this caused only weeks before our arrival was unprofessional and unacceptable Luckily, it had been replaced by the time we arrived, however the pool temperature was ice cold and therefore barely used by the boys and totally unusable for the adults. When the owner was contacted about turning on the heater for the pool, her response was that "somewhere" she had stated the pool was not heated and she refused to turn it on. That was our only request and it was denied. The ladders were also slung over the outside shower and had not been replaced. The kitchen was well equipped. There was only 1 bedroom that was suitable for one couple, but we had 3 couples total and the other rooms were small and had only twin beds. We had out of town guests (and gave them the big bedroom - the only one with a bath en suite - because they had a 10-month old baby). The furniture throughout the house is old and dingy. This property would be fine for 1 couple with young children, however more than 2 adults and it becomes very disappointing. Between the pool being cold and the cramped sleeping accommodations, my sister and I left on the morning of the 4th of July. We would not rent this property again.

Owner's Response: I would like to clarify some misleading information. The pool was up and running with the new liner in before the tenants arrival. In perfect working condition. Weeks prior to her arrival, I had contacted her and informed her of the delay in the work, a delay that was caused by weather (temperature and rain). Although the job had been planned since fall, the job was to be done after spring, and work could only be done when there was at least 5 consecutive days without rain, and good weather (certain degrees), something that in the months of May and June 2013, there was a lack of. I did contact the tenant, and even offered her a monetary compensation if the pool was not up and ready. On any given summer day, from May to Sept, the pool water is delicious, without a heater. The week this particular tenant was on the Vineyard, she had a taste of "poor" New England Weather. It was very cold and raining all week. The poor weather much limited her pool use. I can assure other future tenants, that even on rainy days, Martha's Vineyard has so much to offer and many other things to do. On another note, bedrooms 2 and three have twin beds, on bases with wheels. When needed, tenants can push them together to make a king.

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just completed a stay here. We had very high expectations and the place still somehow exceeded them. We've done a bunch of trips to the Vineyard and Nantucket in the past and we both agreed this has been our favorite place to stay at so far. We loved everything about it. The location was great. It was very country like and private yet at the same time close enough to everything on the island. Grocery store is literally less than two minutes away. Mocha Motts was our place for coffee in the morning in Vineyard Haven (12 minutes away). Lamberts Cove beach is beautiful and is about 7 minutes away.

The house itself is in great condition and has everything you would want. Best part for us was the backyard and pool. The backyard is fenced in and surrounded by trees. It's as private as you can get. The pool was in excellent condition. Very clean and even nicer than the pictures made it appear. Outdoor shower was great as well.

There are two restaurants very close by (State Road Restaurant and Lamberts Cove Restaurant). We went to both. They are expensive but the food is excellent. There is also a fish market about half way in between the house and Vineyard Haven that we thought was great for getting fresh fish to cook.

Overall, it's really wonderful place to stay at if you're looking to get away and relax or bring your family. I really can't think of one thing we didn't like about the place. My wife and I are in our 30's but my parents came for a couple of days as well. They are in their 60's but had just as much fun as we did (they didn't want to leave :) ). Kids would love it for sure also especially the pool.
