Overall this rental was nice. Large rooms and nice sitting areas. The Christmas decorations were a nice touch. Fireplace felt great when waking up in the AM. There is a hill before the cabin so if you didn't have 4 wheel drive you wouldn't make it back up due to ice on road. We had to park onto of the hill and walk down. The house is heated with hot water so we heard noises throughout the night, making it hard to sleep. Also we found mice droppings in a few of the beds. Great summer rental but I wouldn't rent again in the winter.
My family of three and my sister-in-law's family of six shared Krings' retreat over Labor Day weekend. We had more than enough room, everything we needed for cooking, comfy beds, and great space to play games or just chill. The rooms we comfortable and we liked the layout with two rooms near the kitchen side of the house, the lofted area with four beds, and the two rooms off the other side of the house. Everyone felt comfortable with their own space.
Thank you, Krings, for such a lovely, well-maintained home.
It was a great experience for us up north to find some ice and snow for New years eve fun.Greg as a owner was helpful with additional info about area and some ice fishing location.House itself was good enough for few nights sleep.Steps away from Dam lake for our convenience unfortunately there was not enough ice to explore whole lake so we managed to get only 4 pikes 5 perch and 1 walleye right in the bay.Not far from St.Germain or Eagle river towns. We found some safe ice for snowmobiling on the lake.
We took a quick fall getaway to Kring's Retreat this past September. We loved the solitude of the house; located far enough from town to be peaceful and quiet, yet close enough to St. Germain, Eagle River and Minocqua to take advantage of restaurants and shops. I loved the set-up of the home, which really has two separate sleeping wings. This allows people with different interests (reading vs watching tv) to have their own peace and quiet! The house is decorated in an very quaint style, and the home well appointed. I loved the big clawfoot tub and beautiful bathroom!
The home is also situated very close to the water, giving you great water views from most rooms. The outdoor firepit sits right on the lake and is stocked with firewood, a great bonus. We were also able to fish from the pier where we caught a few perch, and take a spin in the canoe on a gorgeous fall day.
I would recommend the home for families or couples looking to get away from it all! Great hosts and well appointed home.
Had such a great stay at the Krings Retreat. It was large enough to accommodate our whole family. And the updates are so nice. My family will certainly be back next year!
We (two seniors, married son and 35 year old grandson) have been coming to this property for quite a few years and look forward to our return every year. We have seen many great changes each year and always look forward to what they have done to make your stay more comfortable. We will be going up at the end of this month (May 2011) and understand there are some major changes in store. The owners, the Krings, are very hard working and very nice hosts who maintain the property all of the time and will share fishing spots if you ask. The homes design allows for privacy if there are two families as well as places to spend time together. Our son and grandson love to Musky fish and we never hear them at all on "our" side of the home, so it is very quiet. The one neighbor next door just visits their property for the Memorial weekend that we arrive and after that it is very quiet and relaxing. Located between St. Germain and Eagle River, you have a choice of shopping and/or places to eat. Minocqua is a nice drive away so there is no lack of eateries etc. It is an ideal location for those wanting a little peace and quiet (but not isolation) and a little piece of heaven!! I personally have been coming up north for most of my life and we have always looked for a clean, up to date rental with friendly owners - - this one is the best! Enjoy!
