Guestbook comments from the owner

"Very much enjoyed the amenities, furnishings, and tasteful decor in your house nestled in the hills outside Portland. Our 30th wedding anniversary was very well served by a week in the tranquil atmosphere the house embodied. Set between Beaverton and Portland, the house is the perfect location for peace and quiet in the midst of everything Portland has to offer. We shared the house with one other couple for one weekend, and it had plenty of space for us all to spread out. We enjoyed the open floorplan, which made preparing meals a fun group event. Hot water, mood lighting, and lots of windows--would love to have a house like this for ourselves. Literally 10 minutes to downtown Portland (outside rush hour admittedly) and 5 minutes to the Hoyt Arboretum and Oregon Zoo. Close to Max light rail and all the shopping and restaurants of Beaverton. Ideal location. Again, thanks for letting us share your house. Mark and Elizabeth - Williamsburg Virginia"

Thank you for making our trip so enjoyable.

Children are very welcome, however, I want to stress that the house is not childproof. There is a high deck off the livingroom which could be quite dangerous if not used properly. I used to watch my kids like a hawk on it when they were little, and I would ask that you do the same.

Quiet, Cozy, Comfortable, and a Great Location

  • 4 of 5

Loved the house. Excellent Location. Beautiful park like setting. Very quiet. My wife and 3 children stayed here for 8 days. The house is an excellent launch point to tour the Portland area. We had one of our best vacations ever. The house is near everything though it is nice and tucked away on a private drive. Easy to get to downtown Portland or anywhere in Beaverton. The house had everything we needed. The landscape is well kept and looks great. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 only because I had to kill a very large spider 1 night. We are from Southern California and I guess the spiders don't get as big in So Cal as they do in Northern Oregon. It was just a common harmless lycosa wolf spiders, but my wife is terrified of spiders so....., let's just say she was a little on edge for a couple nights after that. Otherwise no complaints. We loved it and had a great time and the house is a great place to relax after wearing yourself-out hiking the waterfalls, or whitewater river rafting, or just eating too much good food in Portland.

Great house in a great location for exploring the area

  • 5 of 5

This West Slope home was a very comfortable home-away-from-home for our family of 2 grandparents, my husband and I, and our 3 kids for the week. The house was clean and cozy and the landscaping and deck were lovely. The location to Portland, the beach, the Falls, etc was ideal. The kitchen was well stocked and there were stores and restaurants close by. We would certainly stay here again. Thanks Carol!

Great House and Location!

  • 4 of 5

This is a very nice, well-kept house in a good location which is only a short drive to downtown Portland and/or Washington. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals and there is a washer/dryer in the basement area if you need to do laundry during your stay. The eating area is just off the deck with a wonderful view of the woods and neighboring yards. The owner has obviously put a lot of thought into providing guests with a very clean and comfortable home--down to the memory foam mat at the kitchen sink. All the bedrooms are in the lower level, so if stairs are an issue for you, that is a consideration. The bedrooms in the basement were a great size with good closet space and plenty of room for guests. The beds were a bit uncomfortable for my family as they were a little too firm for our tastes, but were certainly manageable. It was 100 degrees the day we arrived in Portland and since there's only an older air conditioner in the living room, sleeping was a little uncomfortable for the hottest days. Central air conditioning or some kind of free standing air conditioner in the basement area would be a great improvement which is why I gave the home 4 stars instead of 5. . On the cooler days, opening the windows in the basement improved the conditions immensely. I really enjoyed our stay in this home and would highly recommend it to anyone with a family who is considering a trip to the Portland area.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the review. And the very important feedback about the air conditioner. I have just ordered a new energy efficient model to replace, you are right, my very old workhorse- which I have been wondering when it will stop producing at the previous level. This should increase comfort and reduce energy bills. Also sorry about the beds not being a good fit for you. Please think of me for your next trip to Portland. You were incredible guests- the housekeeper did not think the house had been used! Carol

Perfect home base for Portland area

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house, it was beautifully decorated without being fussy which was helpful with 2 seven year-olds in the group. The yard is beautifully landscaped and added to the peaceful setting. The house was equipped with everything we expected for our stay. It really is very close to downtown Portland, 5 minutes or so and you can get to Washington Park or into the city. We spent a few days exploring downtown which had a lot to offer. But we also made day trips to Ecola State Park on the coast, Mt. Hood and the Columbia River Gorge to see tremendous waterfalls. It was nice to return to the comfort of the house after our excursions. It was the perfect home base for our Portland vacation.

Idyllic hideaway

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful home and location, the separation of bedrooms and living area is perfect for families or groups of friends. The view out of the windows is peaceful and the location is Great! Besides being close to downtown it's also only a few min from the Japanese Gardens in Washington Park, 30 min from Willamette Valley wine country and in 45 minutes we were at the Vista House overlooking the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. There is a Target and Trader Joe's about 4 minutes away and at the bottom of 87th is a Plaid pantry for anything small you might need. My wife and I agree that if we ever move to Portland we would try to buy this house from Carol.
