The Appalachian Main Home (4/4.5) and guest Carriage House (1/1 available separately) are on a prominent lot facing green spaces in The Village of Cheshire. We love hosting couples and families in our family home that we have made available while we are living in Sullivan's Island, SC for the year. As the developer of Cheshire, Sikes is available to show newly developed Jacob's Cottages town homes and Creekside Lofts. Our property was featured on ABC affiliate LWN's travel show Sweet Retreats in May- the only house in town selected out of tens of thousands of vacation rentals! The property was artistically designed and full of carefully planned details from handcrafted sinks, honed granite counters and reclaimed antique Black Walnut floors. The Village of Cheshire is just 1 mile off HWY 40, exit 64 on HWY 9 South (11 miles from downtown Asheville; 20 miles from the Asheville Airport; 2 hours west of the Charlotte Airport). The Biltmore House, Grove Park Spa, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure are all just a short drive away.

Built in 2007, this home has Pottery Barn furnishings throughout, hypoallergenic bedding and modern luxuries including flat screen, high def TVs, porcelain tub, and WiFi, fully stocked kitchen so you can have a romantic dinner in front of the wood burning fireplace or bake cookies. The Village Center is a short walk away from the Village’s Center's Sake Sushi restaurant and Artisan Market & Cafe open all day that offers a selection of local, domestic and foreign beers and wines, in addition to menus filled with cuisine inspired by local, fresh vegetables and organic meats, and daily fresh pastries.

About India & Sikes Ragan

I grew up on the land where my cabin is as a boy, and built the cabin last year. I'm a fireman/medic that decided to develop my family land in 1997 after studying new urbanism at Oxford in England. People seem to like to be in a place where you can walk to everything that you need- grocery store, restaurant, tavern, hair salon, trails, fields to walk your dog, etc. So I built my cabin where everything is easy to walk to and yet you have a secluded little slice of nature surrounding your cabin allowing you to relax and enjoy your tranquil surroundings. I love the view of Camp Branch Creek with the sound of babbling water and birds singing invites you to kick back and enjoy the elements that I have thoughtfully put together to create this very special place called Cheshire after my grandmother's family name.

This property is the perfect mountain home located in a walking village. The Village Center has everything you need to not get in your car. If you want to go to downtown Asheville and Biltmore, you're just a 10 minute drive away. The home is easily accessed on all paved and maintained roads, 1.2 miles off highway 40- so no matter what mother nature has in store, you will not get stuck in the house- unless you want to. Guests love the outside fireplace and great mountain views!

We stayed at the Owl's Nest for a week. Times are difficult for all of us now-economic as well as physically. This place gave us time to "unplug" and "recharge" our souls. The Serenity, Beauty and Nature have healing qualities that we enjoyed. This is a beautifully designed and decorated home and we feel privileged to have stayed here. We hope to return to The Village of Cheshire in the near future. The Weather has been beautiful.

A nice retreat from our busy lives

We brought our family -- myself, spouse and three small children to the Village of Cheshire so that we could be near Asheville to explore the city proper but also be close to quality hikes and outdoor activities. The location is perfect; a quick drive into Asheville when we wanted to visit but remote enough that we were able to enjoy nature and feel isolated from the hustle and bustle when we wanted to relax. Our children enjoyed hiking the grounds of the Village of Cheshire and the vicinity. The house itself is really nice with all modern amenities. India responded promptly to any questions we had and overall we had a great time during our stay.

Owl's Nest has a lot of stairs, so we had to watch our youngest very closely but our older children loved all the decks and outdoor areas. There are plenty of amenities within walking distance so you could easily get by without a car if you wanted to just enjoy the Village but if you wanted to do some further exploration an automobile would be required.

Hard to leave "The Nest"

While staying at the Owl's Nest you are in a very private setting, so it is remarkable to be within walking distance of two first class restaurants, a wine and coffee bar plus an upscale market in Cheshire Village itself. Between relaxing with our feet up on the deck rail during a gentle rain, to all of the comforts that a well laid out master bedroom and bathroom have to offer, we found the Owl's Nest to be everything we had hoped for and much more. In fact, we still laugh at ourselves because we didn't even discover the lower level until our departure day. With another bedroom, bathroom and den, it would be ideal if part of your party wants to enjoy a big screen tv and entertainment center while others enjoy the upper two levels. The quality craftsmanship of this home is evident everywhere you look while being tastefully decorated, and owners are exceptional.

Awesome for family getaway!

We had an amazing weekend staying at the Owl's Nest this fall! We had five adults and 2 young children in our group, and the house was perfect for us. It is just as beautiful as it appears in the photos, you won't be dissapointed! The house really has everything you need... if you are going to be making elaborate meals, I would maybe bring some more cooking gear, but all of the basics are provided. We loved the whole Village of Cheshire, walking around the grounds, taking the kids to the playground, walking down for a tasty breakfast at Artisan Market. India, the owner, was especially helpful and really went out of her way o make sure our weekend was perfect. She brought over everything we needed for our little ones, and even brought over toys and let me use her BOB double stroller for the weekend! We found the location to be perfect. It was just a short drive into Asheville and the Nature Center, literally a minute from a great supermarket, and two minutes to the quaint town of Black Mountain, with lots of little shops and restaurants. We were all so happy to have found this great spot, and look forward to coming back!

Cheshire stay

QqThe setting was lovely, but I have several complaints. For starters, I expect that there not be a heavy layer of dust on everything. I, any many others, are allergic to household dust! Also, the master bathroom sink doesn't drain well. Also, there were wet sheets and a duvet in the washer. Also, the dishwasher was full. I don't know if they were clean or dirty. Eddie told us upon checking in that it was the owner of Cheshire's cabin, so please don't leave any messes. I wish we had been treated as well.

Christmas in Black Mountain

This was our second Christmas at Cheshire Village and our first time to stay in the Owl's Nest cabin. The cabin itself was incredible and we enjoyed the split level plan as it gave our girls their own space downstairs. The cabin was immaculate and very comfortably furnished. The only challenge we had was getting the wireless internet to provide any quality of speed and connectivity. Cheshire Village is in close proximity to Asheville and surrounding attractions. On this trip we took in a day of skiing at Cataloochee, the Christmas tour of the Biltmore Mansion and enjoyed great meals at Tupelo Honey Cafe as well as The Corner Kitchen. One of our favorite meals however was at a restaurant called Mela that specializes in Indian cuisine. We will be back.

We loved our visit to the Village of Cheshire and our stay at the Owl's Nest - we will be back. It was one of the most relaxing vacations ever - the Owl's Nest lived up to all the pictures, it was a beautiful rental. The staff were helpful and we loved being able to walk with our children to meals in the Village or to the gym/with child care which was a huge selling point! We cannot say enough great things and we will return - wonderful area with lots to do for active families.
