Charlestown Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

A quaint and comfortable log cabin on 3 acres located in Watchaug Heights Association. Accommodations include a short walk to a private beach on Watchaug Pond for swimming, canoeing or kayaking.

The living room, dining room and kitchen is a spacious open design with a special indirect lighting system on dimmer switches to create your perfect desired effect on the finished pine wood vaulted ceiling. The dining room has a sliding door that opens to a private back yard deck. The entire cabin is finished with yellow pine walls and oak flooring throughout the cabin.

The cabin sits back from the road with plenty of privacy and trees to enjoy. The Charlestown area is an ideal vacation spot, with many attractions nearby. See the Chamber of Commerce links in this ad. The cabin is a short 15 minute drive to the Charlestown Breachway featuring one of the most beautiful ocean front beaches in New England for swimming in the summer and great stripped bass fishing in the late summer/early fall.

About Scott Hurley

It is a blessing to live in this part of New England. I love cutting and splitting wood at the cabin in the winter and boating with my family in the summer. I enjoy my work at a family owned telecommunication company where I am an executive. I love coaching employees and managers to help them accomplish professional and business goals.

Scott Hurley purchased this cabin in 1985

Why Scott Hurley chose Rhode Island Coastal

My family is now third, fourth & fifth generation log cabiners. This cabin was built in 1985 by my parents, fulfilling a retirement dream of my mother, whose father lived in a log cabin on Long Island during his retirement years. I spent all of my summers and long weekends as a child at my grandfather's lob cabin. Both of my parents were World War II veterans, my father serving under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. As my father said many times, 'Charlestown, RI reminds me so much of East Northport, LI when I was a boy.'

What makes this cabin unique

We love Thanksgiving and Christmas at the cabin. With all of our family gathering together we have great memories. Our immediate family in the area numbers almost 30. My family also loves staying at the cabin on cold winter weekends.

Worked for our weekend needs

  • 3 of 5

The house was in a lovely private setting. There was plenty of room for outdoor family games. Likewise Inside the house allowed for groups or individual pursuits. We did not take advantage of the lake during our weekend. Location allows for pretty easy access to other area activities. The owners were pleasant and helpful.

The house is fairly shaded and there are no air conditioners necessitating use of fans and leaving Windows open. This creates a dampness that can be felt in clothing. There is no washer but more importantly no dryer - anything wet gets thrown over things to hopefully dry.

No WIFI these days, especially with kids can be difficult. Double bed could use more supportive mattress.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at "the cabin". It is in great location to be able to visit any of the Rhode Island beaches. Also the lake beach is within blocks of the cabin that you can walk to if you decide. The water at the lake was like bath water and so refreshing. Beach area is clean and wonderful area for a family with young children. The older children can also enjoy it as well. The cabin open concept for the kitchen, dining and living room is terrific. Although it was only 2 of us I can see a family enjoying the open concept. The owners were very nice and available if needed.

Perfect cottage and location for our weekend fishing trip

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and spacious open great room/kitchen/dining area. Lots of bedroom space with two full bathrooms. Nice backyard. Enclosed "mud room" between garage and house was a plus. Minor issue the first night. The owner was very reachable and immediately corrected the problem. Minutes from Charlestown downtown and restaurants. Beaches and jetties very close. Reasonable priced. Would rent again without hesitation.

Relaxing family weekend

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at Scott's cabin. We went along with another family and found there to be plenty of room for 4 adults and a toddler. The 2nd bathroom was definitely appreciated especially when we came back from the beach! The private beach access that comes with the property was really the best part of the stay for us. We went to the public beaches on the first day but it was so much more convenient and less busy at the private beach that we ended up staying there for the remainder of our stay. The only 2 things we found to be slightly less than ideal was lack of AC and that we had to carry our own bedding. But Scott did provide fans in every room and it didn't get too hot while we were there. Definitely not deal breakers and wouldn't stop me from recommending this cabin to friends and family!

Log Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The log cabin is centrally situated to everything in South County. It is not on ocean but all beaches are close by, but you have to pay admission fees to all State and town beaches. Cabin does not come with beach passes, which would be nice but would be expensive for owner and likely raise rental fee. The Assoc Lake beach is very nice and a great afternoon location to unwind. We ranged from Westerly to Jamestown easily and went to East beach, Quonnie beach and Narraganset beach. The cabin is spacious for a small group/family to spread out and relax. A casual, relaxed group will feel very comfortable here. The kitchen, dining room, and deck are very functional. Kitchen gas stove needs help with external lighter on some burners. Guest needs to provide all linens/bedding. Dart board is excellent. A/C was not set up, but windows provided a lot of cross ventilation. Master bedroom with bathroom has two twin beds, while other bedroom has full size bed. I'd recommend moving full size bed to master bedroom, if possible. Plenty of privacy, scenic location, places to walk, and QUIET. Owners are very caring, flexible, and thoughtful and follow up with any concerns. If you like 60's blues/rock music check out Perks and Corks in Westerly. Very cool, but low key club. I would be happy to return. South County is a great place.
