If it is a TRUE OCEAN VIEW you are looking for, this is it! Our pictures were taken from our 2nd floor home. When you are comparing our home with others, MAKE SURE THAT THE VIEWS THEY ARE SHOWING YOU ARE ACTUALLY FROM THEIR SUITE! Our home is one of the rarest, most popular, and largest (1325 Sq. Ft.) two bedrooms available at the Honua Kai Resort & Spa... Why, because it is just one of a few such suites that offers a true ocean and sunset views from WITHIN the suite. Why is our home so popular? You might think you can get by with the smaller two bedrooms, but once you have 6 family or friends staying in the same space, you will understand the benefits of the extra space that our home provides. The Honua Kai is 'U' Shaped. Because of the 'u' shape, most of the views from within the other suites are directed into the Resort itself, or there are views into the surrounding areas, NOT the ocean. The vast majority of two-bedroom suites that are being offered as 'Ocean View' are actually not looking directly out to the ocean at all. To see the ocean from most two-bedroom suites, you must go outside to the lanai to get a glimpse of the ocean. With ours you can see the ocean from within the suite, from the living room, kitchen, as well as from the oversize 'L' shaped lanai.

As you are searching for the accommodation that best suits your needs, be certain that the view that is shown in the advertisement is actually the view from WITHIN the suite. I can't overstate the outstanding feature of the large size of our home, plus the exceptionally large wrap-around lanai. Most two-bedroom suites are much smaller and have a much smaller lanai. Another item of importance is that our home is an 'inner' courtyard home (Odd numbered unit). Being in the inner courtyard also protects you from the afternoon trade winds. While outside (even numbered suites might experience strong afternoon winds, we generally will have nice gentle breezes. If a TRUE OCEAN VIEW, and the enjoyment of the beautiful Hawaiian breeze on your very own spacious lanai are important to your Maui Vacation; Our home promises the experience you are looking for, including fast wifi internet and NO $29 per day resort fee!!!!

About The Owner

Deb and I grew up in Washington (State). We have vacationed in Maui and the surrounding Islands many times. Now that our boys are grown we’ve decided that this is the place we wanted to make our second home. We love the resort amenities and the casual life style, and most of all just sitting on our lanai watching the ocean and the whales breaching (December - April). We know you will enjoy your stay in our beautiful home.

What makes this condo unique

There are so many to mention! The pools are amazing... All adult pool, Children pool, Slide and Waterfall pool. Beach pool...Jacuzzi's everywhere. Gas BBQ's well located throughout the Resort. A tremendously delicious Deli Market right on-sight. Duke's restaurant (One of Maui's Favorites) Pool and beach side in the Resort... A 7000 square foot Spa and fitness center. The Resort is connected to Kaanapali South beach by a new and lovely beach walk (about 1.25 mi. to Black Rock), and Whaler's Village. It is a beautiful walk and is great exercise too! The Resort itself is absolutely gorgeous and the grounds are nearly 40 acres.. It is as if you are at a retreat...

Your Maui home is beautiful. My wife and 3 daughters enjoyed our time there. We appreciate how you keep you wonderful home. We have a vacation home on the Sonoma Coast at Bodega Harbour and appreciate when owners take pride in their home away from home. We wish we could have stayed indefinitely and we can't wait to return!

I first emailed Bill Hazelett mid-2014 to inquire about a 2015 stay at his beautiful home. He informed me that the summer of 2015 was already booked! We wound up delaying travel to Hawaii until 2016 for several reasons, one of which was I had my heart set on the Hazelett's unit.

I contacted Bill again in early 2015 to ensure we had first dibs at our 2016 desired dates. I appreciated Bill's friendly and fast replies to my many emails. We had read many reviews of other Honua Kai units and the Hazeletts' place was the best fit for us. Bill told me to call the Harris Hawaii Realty Group, the local company that manages his property. Their office is up the road from Honua Kai. Prior to our trip, they were very communicative and responsive to my inquiries. We felt 100% comfortable doing business with them. We didn't hear from Harris during or after our trip as their literature stated we would. That wasn't an issue for us, as our stay was as close to perfect as one could hope.

My family of 4, with 2 kids ages 10 and 13, absolutely LOVED the Hazelett's unit. I wrote a detailed review of Honua Kai and their unit on TripAdvisor in July of 2016. Upon entering 213, my kids actually gasped at how beautiful and spacious it was. There was plenty of room to relax both in the condo and on the large wrap-around lanai that faced the ocean. Nicely appointed with very few signs of rental wear, we enjoyed making some meals in the upscale kitchen and enjoyed eating them while admiring the ocean view. The first time we opened the Nanawalls and experienced the open-air living, we seriously considered chaining ourselves to the furniture and refusing to leave! The air conditioning worked very well when we needed it. On cooler nights, we used the Nanascreen and the breeze throughout the condo was beautiful and we didn't have to worry about mosquitos. The beds were very comfortable; the bathrooms spacious and meticulously clean. The entire unit was spectacularly clean. Even the washer/dryer unit was spotless. After assessing what was in the condo, we went to the market across the street to load up on groceries. The condo was so nice and so comfortable it felt like home. The only issues were the very wacky cable channel system that I think all units have and the wi-if, which was hit or miss- mostly miss. When we return to Maui, we would love to stay at the Hazelett's property. We loved the condo, its location on the property, and the perfectly smooth experience.

Beautiful condo, Great deal through Harris Hawaii

I was a little nervous about booking a condo through a property management company where I had to prepay our trip in full, with no cancellations allowed, and no maid service.. however, all worked out well, thankfully.

We were able to book this beautiful 2 bedroom condo for much less than if had we booked through the hotel directly, so it was a great deal. Beautiful, clean, and great views. I wasn't sure we would like not having maid service and having to wash all our towels ourselves, but it turned out fine. It was nice not having to worry about house cleaning knocking on the door at 8am or wondering what time between 8am-5pm they might show up.

Pools were beautiful, valet parking attendants were always helpful and nice.

The only minor complaint I have (and I'm not docking any stars for it) is that my new-ish Win 8 laptop would not connect to the wireless router in the room. All of our other devices connected fine, but my laptop would not. I read it was likely a WPA/WPA2 security issue, but rather than logging in to the owners' router to try to tinker around with it, I used my cell phone as a mobile hotspot for my laptop. I then ended up maxing out the data on our mobile plan uploading photos to Shutterfly (I'm paranoid about losing trip photos) and had to pay extra to Verizon to increase our cell phone data. I couldn't log in to the hotel's Honua Kai wifi either because I wasn't a registered guest through the hotel, since I booked through Harris Hawaii. The router in the room is a PACE 4111N router which is at least 4 years old according to forum posts from 2012, so I'm thinking it might even be original to the room, which was completed in 2010. May be time for owners to buy a new router.

Other than that, all was well. Thanks for a great stay!

Family vacation

We rented this unit for nine nights for out family of five. Our three kids are all over nineteen and the unit was perfect for us. Very spacious and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beds were comfortable and the unit was very quiet at night which was nice. The wrap around balcony was amazing as you were able to open the sliding doors and enjoy the view. Internet did not work the greatest all the time. The only downside was that the pool areas were very crowded with families with young kids. Very noisy. The quiet pool was great if you were able to get a lounge chair. Beach was nice. My kids said they wouldn't want to go back again simply because the pool was too noisy. Property had a great fitness room and there was a great grocery store nearby. I would give the unit itself a ten. Very beautiful and modern.

Owner's Response: Yes it's true that February can be very busy. Probably the busiest month of the year. A lot of schools in the US and Canada close for a winter week break, so children are vacationing with their parents. I talked with Hawaiian telecom, our internet provider, and they said that their system was experiencing extremely heavy volume limiting bandwidth availability to everyone on Maui during the busy season. They have started upgrading their system to fibre-optic cabling. They expect the upgrade to be completed this year. They promise improved bandwidth and internet speeds.

Beautiful Unit

We've been to Maui a few times and this trip was our best. The location was perfect. We walk to Whalers Village daily and ate in great restaurants nearby. The unit suited us perfectly. It was very clean and comfortable beds. It was really nice to have beach chairs, as we sat daily and watched the whales. Would highly recommend this unit and location.

Fantastic property!

We have been coming to Maui regularly for over 20 years, staying in many different hotels and condominium properties. This room,c at this facility outdid them all! We met our friends from Australia and shared the room for a week in October, and wev were blown away by the entire experience. The room, the view, and the property as a whole was fantastic! We would go back again without hesitation! Thank you for allowing us to use your fabulous condo!
