About Mitch Goldman

My parents bought this property in the early 60's: They were both teachers and had summer vacation free to live in Maine. As a result I vacationed and summered in the area for my whole childhood life. I held jobs in the blueberry business both raking by-hand and on a farm receiving and transfer station. I grew to appreciate the abundant wildlife and natural beauty that this site and the surrounding area had to offer. I learned that Acadia National Park is the only National Park in the North East. By day, if it wasn't blueberry season yet, I swam in the lake, read (you'll have tv and internet), hiked or biked down the dirt road or just generally communed with nature. The Owls, Loons, Toads and Cicadas are a nightly symphony.

Now I bring the kids back to do the same. They love to wander on the dirt road, swim, kayak, play ping pong, and air-hockey, and have the nightly campfire and s'mores. All on a quiet and private 4-acre lake-front site.

Why Mitch Goldman chose Downeast and Acadia

4-acre lake-front site across dirt road from 100's of acres of Blueberry field.

It is a great location with relatively easy access to Ellsworth, Bangor (I-95), Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and The Schoodic Peninsula. Contact the owner if you have any questions.

Relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this location due to its amenities and that it is close to Acadia. Although the weather was not perfect, we had a great time! We found that we enjoyed the much closer Schoodic Peninsula over the Mount Desert Island region. We enjoyed coming "home" in the evenings and cooking our own dinner. We were very surprised at the very early sunrise, but this gave my husband time to enjoy his fishing license from the dock while I slept a little longer. The screened in porch gave us a lovely retreat away from the bugs so we could read and relax. Thank you for sharing this home!!

Great location for nature lovers, near enough to Bar Harbor to make it convenient, day trips aplenty

  • 4 of 5

The house is well stocked with everything needed, kitchen supplies good, every appliance in working order. Some minor issue with heat since we arrived during a sudden cold spell; quickly resolved. Plenty of room for 3 couples. Overall a very good experience. May use again next summer.

Owner's Response: Hello and thanks for your feedback. Apologies for extra day to get gas-heat going. The property manager happened to be out of town the day you called. Usually the gas-heat is always available but apparently some previous guests turned off gas valves, which is something that's hard to account/plan for. I will make sure the Property Manger checks the gas appliances more closely, especially as it gets closer to Fall. There are also numerous electric heaters throughout the house that can be moved from room to room as necessary. I came up in January 2017 (it was single digits out, and I had to hike down to the house from top of road with all my gear. That was an experience!) and was able to heat the master bedroom up to a comfortable level. Each bathroom (three) has it's own in wall electric heater. Hope you decide to come again. I add things every year to make it a better and better.

Kid friendly home

  • 4 of 5

The description of the property is correct and up to date. A good supply of starter items such as paper towels and toilet paper and some common spices were provided. As mentioned in other reviews, you need to drive to get to most services and attractions. The dirt road to the house can be challenging at times. The kids enjoyed the games and equipment for the lake but unfortunately, didn't get a chance to use them because of a full agenda to see the sites while in Maine.

We lost the internet the last day and half and without good cell phone coverage we were bit disappointed.

The only negative we have is the lack of comfortable chairs on the porch and living area. Could not find a spot to sit and read.

Owner's Response: Hello and thanks for your feedback. Cell-phone coverage can be spotty in rural Maine. Some seasons it has been good at the house and others not so much. To help with this, the house does include free landline telephone with nationwide long-distance included. Many new phones have wifi calling and that works great with the free broadband wifi in and around the house and property There is a couch and love seat in the Living Room and many types of lawn chairs on the porch, deck and yard. There is one of those foam fold out chair/beds that you can move from room to room as you like.

Peaceful and serene

  • 5 of 5

We had a great week at the home. It was beautiful and on a private road with little traffic. The dock was great for sitting and stargazing. The home is comfy and well thought out - great for kids with a ping pong table and air hockey table and mini wave kayaks. We didn't realize it would still be a 45 minute drive to Acadia and 20 minutes to Ellsworth which some might consider far when you live as close to places as we do but the surrounding scenery makes the drive worth it.

Great location perfect for families!

  • 4 of 5

I've been going to camps all over Maine for 50 years. As I get older the romance of camping has given way to comfort and location. This property fits both of those criteria. First, the location is on a very quiet pond in the small remote town of Eastbrook. What's is nice is it is only 25 minutes to the ocean and Ellsworth, 45 minutes to Bangor and many other inland areas.

Next is the camp itself. The property is on a dirt road that winds through a farm. It is a good road and well maintained. The camp is actually a newly rebuilt house that has a nice daylight basement with lots of stuff for kids to keep occupied, such as ping pong, air hockey and their own place to hang out. The main level has a screened in porch and a nice deck with patio furniture. There is several hundred feet of water frontage so you have no issues with noisy neighbors. A path winds down to the dock where you can sit on lawn chairs and take in a nice view of the lake and good shade on hot days. The house is only a few years old so most features are in great shape. A few old fixtures, such as doors, have been kept from the original camp to give it some character. The master bedroom on the first floor is large with a very nice queen bed. The bathrooms are all well appointed a pleasure to use. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to cook. The living room shares open space with the kitchen and dining area table. It is a bit sparse on comfortable furniture with only a single sofa. Views are limited on the first floor since the lake is barely visible. There is a nice 40 inch tv however it is mounted 7 feet off the floor so it is a bit challenge to watch. Upstairs are an additional bathroom and 2 bedrooms along with an office desk with computer if needed. If you have a family you'll love this set up since your kids can have their own rooms and if its a rainy day they have lots of books, movies, and games to play. Wifi works well through out the house, high speed internet is a challenge in this area, so 3meg/sec is about the best you'll do, still a nice plus. Cell coverage is weak.

I'd give this property 5 stars if it had better views, TV was better positioned, and the addition of more comfortable furniture in the living room and screened porch would be a great addition. The cleaning staff could improve and bushes need trimming in the driveway.

Michael is a pleasure to deal with and I'd recommend his property to anyone.

Owner's Response: Hi, thanks for the thoughtful response and useful info. I am still working to open up the views to the pond. I hope to make another push through areas to the South and West that have grown back in. I am always looking to improve the house and amenities for all. The new flat tv and additional small couch added to the living room are just right additions to that space. Now with a couch and love-seat, there is an even more comfy seating available. The new flat tv with smart features is handy and makes it easy to display useful weather and news info as well as entertainment. The mount pulls away and down (gently please) to offer a range of viewing heights and angles. Other recent improvements include: 2 new Kayaks to allow for seating for up to 5 at a time, downstairs expanded in-door play-room space with 1/2 bath/laundry room, additional AC for those heatwave days, many new linens and towels, new gas bbq, etc. Thanks for being a guest and I hope you choose to stay again soon!

Dickens Farm Rd. is marked at the turn-off with a regulation green street sign.

119 Dickens Farm Rd. becomes a dirt road that goes down between two barns. Our driveway is 1/2 mile down the dirt road, on the right.

Eastbrook is close to Ellsworth, Bangor, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Close enough for easy access even during peak times, or you can remain at 'camp' and avoid the crowds altogether. Depending when you go you may not see any other people, around camp and the lake, all week. There is no better location in New England for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, sailing, beach-combing, and fall foliage viewing.
