My parents bought this property in the early 60's: They were both teachers and had summer vacation free to live in Maine. As a result I vacationed and summered in the area for my whole childhood life. I held jobs in the blueberry business both raking by-hand and on a farm receiving and transfer station. I grew to appreciate the abundant wildlife and natural beauty that this site and the surrounding area had to offer. I learned that Acadia National Park is the only National Park in the North East. By day, if it wasn't blueberry season yet, I swam in the lake, read (you'll have internet), hiked or biked down the dirt road or just generally communed with nature. The Owls, Loons, Toads and Cicadas are a nightly symphony.
Now I bring the kids back to do the same. They love to wander on the dirt road, swim, kayak, play ping pong, and air-hockey, and have the nightly campfire and s'mores. All on a quiet and private 4-acre lake-front site.
4-acre lake-front site across dirt road from 100's of acres of Blueberry field.
It is a great location with relatively easy access to Ellsworth, Bangor (I-95), Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and The Schoodic Peninsula. Contact the owner if you have any questions.
4-acre lake-front site across dirt road from 100's of acres of Blueberry field. Built in 2010, 3 levels of living. Full kitchen with Dish Washer, Washer & Dryer, WIFI, 40" Flat Screen with TV, 4 kayaks (and paddles and vests) included, Ping Pong table, Air Hockey table, Mini-Basketball, Computer with Internet Access, DVD player, VHS player, AM/FM Stereo. Full size fridge, 5 burner stove, dishwasher. Air Conditioners in MBR and upstairs. Heat in all rooms. Lake views from all rooms. Unique walkout basement with 2 sliders and french doors. French Doors to Screened Porch off kitchen/LR lead to open deck with gas bbq.
The description of the property is correct and up to date. A good supply of starter items such as paper towels and toilet paper and some common spices were provided. As mentioned in other reviews, you need to drive to get to most services and attractions. The dirt road to the house can be challenging at times. The kids enjoyed the games and equipment for the lake but unfortunately, didn't get a chance to use them because of a full agenda to see the sites while in Maine.
We lost the internet the last day and half and without good cell phone coverage we were bit disappointed.
The only negative we have is the lack of comfortable chairs on the porch and living area. Could not find a spot to sit and read.
We had a great week at the home. It was beautiful and on a private road with little traffic. The dock was great for sitting and stargazing. The home is comfy and well thought out - great for kids with a ping pong table and air hockey table and mini wave kayaks. We didn't realize it would still be a 45 minute drive to Acadia and 20 minutes to Ellsworth which some might consider far when you live as close to places as we do but the surrounding scenery makes the drive worth it.
I've been going to camps all over Maine for 50 years. As I get older the romance of camping has given way to comfort and location. This property fits both of those criteria. First, the location is on a very quiet pond in the small remote town of Eastbrook. What's is nice is it is only 25 minutes to the ocean and Ellsworth, 45 minutes to Bangor and many other inland areas.
Next is the camp itself. The property is on a dirt road that winds through a farm. It is a good road and well maintained. The camp is actually a newly rebuilt house that has a nice daylight basement with lots of stuff for kids to keep occupied, such as ping pong, air hockey and their own place to hang out. The main level has a screened in porch and a nice deck with patio furniture. There is several hundred feet of water frontage so you have no issues with noisy neighbors. A path winds down to the dock where you can sit on lawn chairs and take in a nice view of the lake and good shade on hot days. The house is only a few years old so most features are in great shape. A few old fixtures, such as doors, have been kept from the original camp to give it some character. The master bedroom on the first floor is large with a very nice queen bed. The bathrooms are all well appointed a pleasure to use. The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to cook. The living room shares open space with the kitchen and dining area table. It is a bit sparse on comfortable furniture with only a single sofa. Views are limited on the first floor since the lake is barely visible. There is a nice 40 inch tv however it is mounted 7 feet off the floor so it is a bit challenge to watch. Upstairs are an additional bathroom and 2 bedrooms along with an office desk with computer if needed. If you have a family you'll love this set up since your kids can have their own rooms and if its a rainy day they have lots of books, movies, and games to play. Wifi works well through out the house, high speed internet is a challenge in this area, so 3meg/sec is about the best you'll do, still a nice plus. Cell coverage is weak.
I'd give this property 5 stars if it had better views, TV was better positioned, and the addition of more comfortable furniture in the living room and screened porch would be a great addition. The cleaning staff could improve and bushes need trimming in the driveway.
Michael is a pleasure to deal with and I'd recommend his property to anyone.
House was comfortable and in a beautiful location. We enjoyed kayaking and playing in the pond. Saw a lot of wildlife and the location is very quiet and peaceful.
We couldn't have been more pleased with the home. It was just as stated on home away. All the conveniences of home without the neighbors.
The house was clean and comfortable. We spent 8 nights and 9 wonderful days there and had plenty of room there for 4 adults and 2 children.
We had the double doors to screened in porch open most of the time , made it seem even larger. We spent many evenings on the porch listening to
loons and bull frogs in the back pond, or by the large fire pit that is there, with plenty of split wood. You are in Maine so the fire did attract many bugs(mostly mosquitos)
We spent most days visiting different local harbors and of course Acadia National Park. The views are spectacular. When eating dinner out , we found the smaller restaurants to be more enjoyable then the larger ones. More detail to your order and friendlier when asked a local question.
a little disappointed with the lack of fishing areas around the coast. the best fishing you will find is right off the dock in the pond at your back door. We still are laughing about my wife catching a larger bass then my teenage son!! ( accidently by the tail) The Kayaks and small row boat is supplied.
If you ever find your way up in Eastbrook Me. This is a wonderful home away from home. The small enjoyable ride to the Harbors(45 min) around and over beautiful scenery is worth the ride. We even found some yard sales!! LOL
If I was to make any suggestions to owner it would be to supply just a little bigger coffee pot. Wonderful memories for all of us, thank you Mitch.
NOTICE: on Google Maps there are two Abrams Pond Roads. The road this house is on is really called Dickens Farm Rd., and is marked at the turn-off with a normal green street sign.
119 Dickens Farm Rd. becomes a dirt road that goes down between two barns. Our driveway is 1/2 mile down the dirt road, on the right.
Eastbrook is close to Ellsworth, Bangor, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Close enough for easy access even during peak times, or you can remain at 'camp' and avoid the crowds altogether. Depending when you go you may not see any other people, around camp and the lake, all week. There is no better location in New England for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, sailing, beach-combing, and fall foliage viewing.
