Fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

We have rented through VRBO many times and Ebb Tide was clearly the nicest places we have stayed. The location overlooking Bass Harbor was pristine, quiet and in a setting with gorgeous gardens and landscaping. The inside the property was well maintained with all needed amenities and filled with beautiful art and paintings. The owners were very responsive to any questions and needs and even left fresh vegetables from their garden at our door.

I would highly recommend this place to friends and relatives who love the ocean, mountains of Acadia and a peaceful place to step back from the hustle bustle of life.

We hope to go back to Ebb Tide another year.

gorgeous waterfront haven

  • 5 of 5

This immaculate and welcoming property faces a beautiful tidal inlet and is nestled in a spectacular garden. The home has everything one could need, even for a creative cook. We loved our week here. Shelley and Larry were available at all times and even shared some bounty from their vegetable garden! We just loved it.

Wonderful property in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

This is an exceptional property. It is very spacious and provides tremendous views. There is also a generous amount of outside space. We spent a lot of time in the sitting area gazing out at the estuary views. It's extremely easy to get to Arcadia but it was also nice being on the quieter side of Mount Desert Island. We enjoyed meals at the seafood ketch which is about a mile away. A relaxing week.

Wonderful and memorable stay!

  • 5 of 5

The Ebb Tide was an ideal stay on the opposite side of the island, but yet close enough to everything Acadia has to offer. I particularly appreciated Shelley's hospitality and guidance. I managed to enjoy fresh halibut her husband was preparing the first night, and my plug-in hybrid charged during my stay. This was a stellar place and experience.

peaceful and lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I rented Shelley and Larry's house for a couple of weeks of hiking, biking, and slow, lazy reading days this summer, and it was a terrific place to do all three. Shelley and Larry were friendly and helpful but gave us all the privacy we could want. The house and the gardens surrounding it were lovely and really helped us to slow down and enjoy a peaceful respite from hectic lives. The house has lots of interesting art, and the furnishings are stylish and comfortable. We loved being out of the mainstream of Tourist Land and yet close enough to the different parts of the park to make all the biking and hiking excursions easy. Except for a few more mosquitoes than we anticipated, Shelley and Larry's home is a splendid place to stay--we're already talking about a return visit!

Perfect base camp in Bass Harbor

  • 5 of 5

Our second stay at the Ebb Tide with our pooch was as perfect as the first. Such a perfect location on the water in Bass Harbor. The house is wonderful with awesome views of the sunset from the house, patio with a fire ring, or chairs down at the water. It was so nice to have a quiet place to come back too and unwind after a day of exploring the wonderful hiking trails that Acadia National Park offers. Shelly maintains beautiful gardens around the house and has several bird feeders that attract lots of birds.

The house is equipped with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable and if you do need something Shelly and Larry are eager to assist. We used the gas grill for half our meals, and enjoyed several local establishments in Southwest Harbor the other nights. Highly recommend "Eat a Pita" and the attached "Island Bar" for an awesome meal.

Thurston's Lobster Pound is a 10 minute drive or use the canoe that comes with the house and paddle across the harbor and tie up at their dock to earn those steamers and beer! Many evenings we took a drive along the Seawall with walks at Wonderland Trail, Ship Harbor Nature Trail, and the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. We saw lots of deer each night we did this.

The shower includes a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the harbor - how many times do you get to enjoy a wonderful sunset while showering! There is a sun room off the master bedroom with a day bed that our pooch enjoyed - he could watch all the critters and keep us safe :) The house is very bright with lots of windows, but also in a very private setting.

The hiking on Acadia is very similar to the terrain in the White Mountains of NH, just shorter peaks but with views of the ocean. Even though there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in Bar Harbor most days, we met very few people on the trails and had many summits to ourselves. Very enjoyable hiking!

For dog lovers - dogs are welcome on most trails, but there is also an off leash dog park over by Seal Harbor where dogs and horses are welcome, but no bikes. It has a 5 mile loop along with other trails and a pond for the pooches to go swimming. Very worth checking it out.

We highly recommend a stay at Ebb Tide - already planning a return trip next year.
