Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 1 full bathroom, handicap, not wheel chair accessible, sleeps 4 max

This little house is full of original artwork and photographs. Many done by our local Gulf Shores artists. The property is located on Bon Secour Bay which is across the street ( .5 mi) from the beautiful sugar sand beach of the Gulf of Mexico. It is the only dog friendly beach on the Fort Morgan Peninsula. Well behaved, leashed dogs, with responsible owners are welcome! We are 10 miles from downtown Gulf Shores, where you can find a zoo, amusement parks, live music, tons of restaurants, miniature golf, souvenir shops, etc. There is also an outlet center nearby in Foley if you want to shop! A boat ramp is just up the road to put in your small boat or jetski. Or put your kyack in right over the sea wall!

The washer and dryer are located up in the shed with beach chairs and toys. The cottage has a large screened porch with a large picnic table. It is the perfect place to pick some crabs and shell some peas, and watch the kids try to catch fish or crabs on the pier in the shallow waters of the bay. If you are looking for an old fashioned beach vacation, near attractions, but off the beaten, this is the place for you to unwind after a day at the beach. Hang your towels on the clothesline, rinse off under the outdoor shower, then relax under the ceiling fan on the porch which is shaded with trees laden with Spanish moss. The cottage also has a bunk room just off the porch. Just a perfect romantic getaway or for an affordable small family vacation.

Family owned property since the 1950's: I purchased this property from my mom in 2004. My stepdad was a professor at University of Alabama built 'the cabin' when he wasn't fishing! In 2005 I put a new roof on it, updated electric, put in a heat pump, and covered it with hardiplank. Although it still retains its charm, it is more energy efficient! Just added a flat screen tv and new grill!

Golf: The Peninsula Golf Club and Kiva Dunes are located just down the road.

Other local courses include Pure Palmer Golf at Craft Farms, Cotton Creek, and Cypress Bend.

Outlet Shopping: Ten miles north of Gulf Shores in Foley, Alabama the Tanger Outlet Center features 120 name brand shopping options for the bargain hunter. Brooks Brothers, Calvin Klein, Osh Kosh, SAS, Gap, Banana Republic, Anne Klein, and more.

The City of Gulf Shores has a recreation center with daily, weekly, or monthly rates. It features an indoor temperature controlled swimming pool, basketball courts, fitness room, There is also a really nice playground near town, even a doggy park!

Kayak, Jet Ski and Pontoon Boat Rentals nearyby. FISHING is everywhere!

About Debbie Movelle

Hi! I am Debbie. I am a mommy, a grandma, a doggy mommy, and a teacher! My little family moved to Alabama in 1989 from the Jersey Shore because of the medical waste washing up on our beaches. We wanted to raise our children in a healthy environment! And my Mom and Stepdad had this house we could visit any time! I loved being here with my children when they were little kids, and now with them and my grandchildren!

Debbie Movelle purchased this house in 2006

Why Debbie Movelle chose Alabama Gulf Coast

This is family owned property which has been lovingly taken care of for over 60 years. My children grew up catching crabs off the pier and "camping out" on the porch! After a little too much Gulf sun, we would fill a baby pool with water and let them play on the porch while we shelled peas or shrimp. I purchased this cabin from my Mom before she passed away. My stepdad built this sweet cabin in the 50's. He would drive down from Tuscaloosa, where he was a professor, and build a little and fish a lot! Right after my purchase, the roof leaked and I ended up pitching the roof, from a flat asphalt roof to and finishing the exterior in hardiplank, keeping the original design in tack. During roofing the roofers had not finsihed when a rainmaker flooded the cabin and the ceilings collapsed. No time like the present to up date electric and new ceilings. I also installed a heat pump. The home warms and cools quickly due to the size. I love to wake up here! And I love to watch the sun as it lowers into the sky and sets into the bay right off the pier. There is a real sense of peace in this little spot of Heaven on Earth. If you want to play, or rest, cook, or eat out, this area has it all. And this is a great home base for you.

What makes this house unique

I love this cabin because it is the best of both worlds, very close to the Gulf, and yet all the fun of having a pier on the Bon Secour Bay to fish or catch crabs, and watch beautiful sunrises and sunsets. It is surrounded by trees dripping with spanish moss, It is peaceful, comfortable and cozy. This cabin is an original Fort Morgan beach house, updated with a heat pump and central airconditioning. When i first came down in the 1970's there was no AC, we relied on the Bay breeze and ceiling fans with personality!

Peaceful home on the bay

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay in Debbie's cabin very much. Its in a great location, right on the bay, in a quiet peaceful part of Gulf Shores. The cabin was surprising roomy for the two of us along with our german shepherd. Solid internet and cable connections and large tvs. Lots of windows and light. Enough room for us to have separate spaces when we needed them. A very large screened in porch was a favorite spot. A pier direct from the backdoor to the bay, a distance of less than 100 feet. We stayed the month of February, so the water was a bit chilly for swimming, but fishing was good. And the beach on the gulf was beautiful, dog friendly, and just a couple minutes away. The place was just as described and very clean. Plenty of shade, too, for the warmer months. We had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again when we visit coastal Alabama. No complaints at all,

Very private and views are awesome! Close to lots of restaurants and groceries.

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I needed a break from a bad winter.

We enjoyed traveling to Fort Morgan and had breakfast at Tacky Jack's on the water. The view was so calm and serine.

WE loved the fact that there were no neighbors and that everything that we wanted to do was not more than 15 minutes or so from the cabin.

We especially appreciated having a seafood store within 6 miles of us!

Deb, the homeowner, was very accommodating and met our every need.

good place for a quiet getaway

  • 5 of 5

Bay Cabin is tucked away in a quiet spot, which is my perfect idea for a getaway. But it's also close to the beach. We walked there easily for a stroll but drove when we planned to spend the day.

Being only 10 miles from groceries, restaurants, and shopping makes it even more perfect.

We will be back!

Cozy Cabin Getaway on the Bay

  • 5 of 5

We were down visiting family and decided to rent this cabin. It was ideal and we enjoyed much more than staying at a hotel.

My wife and our 15 year old rescue dog enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee and listening to the waves. The first night the water was calm and the shiners were balling up and the mullet were jumping. I remembered when the area roads were unpaved and my Grandpa and Dad would come down to throw their cast nets to catch them. I know if I had a net I could have caught supper off the pier. The cabin reminds me of the old fishing camps I played at when I was young.

The cabin is small, but comfortable. Debbie has art and other interesting items everywhere for your viewing enjoyment. What my wife and I enjoyed most was the quiet and relaxing atmosphere. This is just a clean, fun, and enjoyable place to stay. My wife and I will be back. (I hope the dog can come too!). The beach is just a short distance away and historic Fort Morgan just down the road.

Debbie you were very helpful and thanks for getting the WiFi up even though I really didn't miss it at all.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your childhood memories of Fort Morgan days with your father and grandfather! How cool! Things may have changed all around, but Bay Cabin continues to hold on to the memories of the "good ole days" on Fort Morgan, where mullet still jump in the Bay right in front of you and herons will hang out with you on the pier! Thank you for your kind comments about the cabin. And hank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you found it relaxing. Of course you are all welcome back, your dog included!

Very happy

  • 5 of 5

My wife and our two Labradoodles really enjoyed our stay at the cabin last week. Debbie was very gracious as our host and provided all we needed. Neighbors were friendly. The white sanded dog friendly Beach was close by. It was our first stay in the Ft Morgan area after many stays in gulf shores and Orange Beach. Ft Morgan is much less commercialized. There are only a few restaurants and no full service grocery stores.

Quiet, quaint little but big cabin on the bay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in this cabin! It has so much charm, it's a perfect getaway for a family. We loved watching the Dolphins jump from our private pier. We enjoyed the beach that was just minutes away. It was never crowded. Just minutes away from fun family things to do as well! We took advantage of the zoo, dolphin cruises and all the local shopping! Overall we absolutely loved this cabin and will definitely be visiting it again!! And Debbie is the sweetest person!
