The Palm House is a privately owned beach home recently remodeled by the new owners as a vacation home for their family. Their goal in the renovation was to create a warm, comfortable, yet simple elegant atmosphere where they would feel at home and allow family members personal privacy while vacationing on the island of San Pedro. The Palm House is located 2 miles south of San Pedro and readily accessible by taxi or golf cart (available for rental through the management company).
The main house consists of three bedrooms, all with king size beds, three bathrooms, as well as a sleeper sofa that is a queen size bed. There is an attached guest house which also has a king size bed, full bath, a full kitchen, and a combination living room dining area. The guest house was renovated to the same quality as the main house and is ideal for someone requiring more privacy (such as Grandparents or Nanny). There is no interior connection for the main house and guest house, but it is only a short walk to the entry of the main home.
The entire 3,000 sq. ft. home has been completely renovated to include stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops, dishwasher and washer and dryer. The main house and guest house have flat screen TV and DVD players along with docking stations. The house has a private fresh water pool. The property is beautifully landscaped with 120 feet of private beach. In addition to the pool there are bicycles, kayaks, paddle boards, and two hammocks out over the water available for guests to use. The Palm House will comfortably accommodate 8-10 guests.
The beach provides a residence for 9 species of Palm trees as well as a green lawn. The Palm House is suitable for all occasions including weddings (arrangements can be provided, restricted to house guests only), family retreats, social gatherings and designed to be child friendly for our grandchildren.
In addition to the rental rate there is a one-time cleaning fee for the cleaning that occurs at departure. The fee is $180 USD and will be billed according to our payment policy. Daily housekeeping services at $40USD per day can be purchaed if you'd like to have our staff come in and do sweeping, mopping, kitchen, bathrooms, and change bed linens while you are there. This service can be offered when you want, but must be scheduled one-week prior to your arrival.
Cooking services can also be arranged for an additional fee. Our cook will work with you to create a menu, buy the groceries, cook and clean the kitchen afterwards. Prices begin at $75 USD + groceries.
The Palm House is managed by Pelican Reef Management of Pelican Reef Villas, which means you have access to that same award-winning staff. Arrangements can be made for scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing and fishing with pick up at the nearest pier, and of course trips to the mainland to visit the Mayan Ruins, zip lining or cave tubing are also easily arranged.
Golf carts are the main mode of transportation on the island, and you're sure to want one for your stay with us. This is also something our management company can arrange for you.
Our goal is to provide you with a hassle free vacation while remaining in your own private beach haven. You get the best of both worlds!
We couldn't have asked for a better vacation.
From day 1 talking with the management company of The Palm House, the process was very easy. Both Charles and Courtney were very easy to get ahold of. They responded to my e-mails (always filled with questions and concerns) in a timely manner. We can't thank them enough-Courtney made our trip very easy-making sure we were comfortable in the house and gave us information on activities around the area.
We had a party of 8 people-which the house accommodated us all very comfortably. The beach was perfect, in fact there was always someone who maintained the property every morning. There are canoes, bikes and kayaks in the house for us to use-this was nice because we all were able to hang out together in the house while doing some exploring in the area.
Captain George is a must! The group really like snorkeling and swimming with baby sharks. He was very very considerate of the people in the boat who were "slightly scared". He was with them the entire time, making sure they also had an enjoyable experience.
Everyone in the group I was with talked about returning back to Belize and staying at the Palm House again.
Great House. Bathrooms and Bed Rooms a plenty. Kitchen for when you want to cook for yourself (or left overs, or just snacks). Living room is great, but we always ventured outside: Pool, paddle board, kayak all at the house. Snorkeling in the immediate area found starfish, rays, fish, crab, & more (With the local lizards to watch). Captain George and the Rum Punch II came right out to the dock by the house to take us out to sea. Town is just a quick jaunt by golf cart or the bikes at the place. Please make sure that the comforts of the house do not keep you there, head into town for some local grub, fun & games, and a drink at the friendly bars. The week was a blast, planning a return trip and bringing friends.
Every day we took out the paddle boards and kayaks right off of our own beach. The snorkeling was amazing! We found lobster traps, starfish as big as dinner plates, multi-colored fish under the piers, spotted eagle rays, and bone fish. I never wanted to leave the property! The rooms are very large and comfortable. 3 of the 4 bedrooms have their own TV which made it nice to have some alone time. Every room also had a programmable safe for our passports, etc. We loved the Palm House and cannot wait to go back!
The Palm House is a beautiful house located right on the beach. The house itself was perfect for us. The main floor of the house has 2 master bedrooms that are identical and are located on opposite sides of the house. There is also a bedroom in the basement, but the bathroom for this room is at the top of the stairs away from the bedroom, so not a true master. The guest house is located inside the house (not a separate structure), but has a separate entrance. The laundry is outside.
The property is right next to a public playground with beach / pier access. There were people at the playground almost all the time, and it was more crowded on the weekend. I can't say that it bothered us all that much, but it's the type of information I would like to have before renting. The property does not have its own pier.
Overall, the house and property met out needs. However, there are a points of improvement that I would offer:
1. Pelican Reef Villas manages the property. I never had contact with the actual owners. We rented the property approximately 8 months in advance of our stay. The correspondence with the management of Palm House started off very well and the lady that was working with us was nice, informative and timely when answering my questions. However, about a month before arrived, I noticed that she was no longer responding to me and I had to send my questions 2-3 times via email before I would get a very short, curt response. There was no explanation for the change in contact, no apologies for lack of response, nothing. I had to get rude and demand some answers a week before we arrived because I was getting nowhere - and it was about information such as flight confirmation and pickup from the airport. I was extremely disappointed and felt uncomfortable about the arrival. Not ideal for the price.
2. Typically, VRBO properties have a book or some kind of information sheet about the house - where things are located, processes for trash, etc. There is not anything like this in the house. I'm assuming they want you to rely on Pelican Reef Villas but that is not our style. We rent the house and like to know how to operate it.
3. The air conditioner in the living room does not work well at all.
4. They list prices for activities on their site. Be aware that these prices may change without notice so ask prior to your stay if you would like to know the exact cost. I would probably book my own activities if I were returning.
Just spent eight awesome days at the Palm House. The house and property met all of our expectations and more! The owners and staff went above and beyond to insure we had a great trip, and we did! If you're looking for an island getaway and you're considering Belize, we highly recommend Ambergris Caye and the Palm House. You won't be disappointed! For added fun while you're there, sail on The Rum Punch ll with Capt. George!
10 of us including Myself, my wife, two kids (4,1), My sister, brother in law and their kids (5,2) and our parents stayed in this lovely home from the 23rd of March until April 1st, 2015. The house met our needs perfectly. Our parents particularly enjoyed having a separate suite with a separate entrance so they could get away from the commotion of four kids at times. The bedrooms upstairs were well separated giving each family a sense of privacy. Mariceli, our cook for the trip was great as was her assistant and daughter who helped each day for lunch and dinner. The food was fresh and well prepared and presented for each meal. The pool was a great addition, especially with young kids as the ocean is not ideal for swimming from the beach due to the sea grass, which there is a lot of. The kayaks and paddle boards worked well, as did everything else in the home. The island is easily accessible with a golf cart and made our morning trip each day for cinnamon buns at the bakery very simple. We snorkeled one day which was a highlight, we organized through pelican reef and were picked up on our dock. We also bone-fished two days which was also wonderful.
The palm house was a perfect way to enjoy Belize, I definitely recommend.
