Blind Bay Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8 in house)

Our property is unique as their are no visible neighbors on either side due to long stretches of trees. We have a newer (2005) 1,450 sq foot 3 bedroom and 2 full bathroom home on a half acre flat piece of land with 2 RV sites so friends can join you with their own Trailer or RV's. The RV sites are flat with 30 amp power, fresh water and sewer hook ups. There is also a boat/RV wash station. We have a very large deck with a fire pit off to one side.

There is plenty of room for the kids to roam and we are directly across the road from the Lake. There is a private buoy moored just off the public dock so there is no need to pull your boats at the end of a busy day on the lake.

About Lisa Otto

We have been vacationing in the Shuwap area since 2006 and have found the Blind Bay area to be the nicest part of the lake. The Lake is generally very calm in this part so it is suitable for swimming and boating activities and it is close to all amenities so lots of pre-planning with kids is not necessary. If you forgot it chances are you can replace it within minutes!

Lisa Otto purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Lisa Otto chose Shuswap Lake

We love the Shuswap area and in particular Blind Bay. It is easy to travel to from either Vancouver or Calgary as it is just minutes off the trans Canada highway. There is a convenient grocery store and several restaurants within walking distance. The lake is spectacular for boating and fishing. It is never very busy and the summer days are long and sunny.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a fantastic place to rent with friends. The house is new with a full kitchen and two bathrooms. There is plenty of space to enjoy time together. It is well suited for kids with the public dock directly across the street and a fenced yard they are always within eye sight even if you are relaxing on the deck with a drink. There are also plenty of trails if dirt biking or mountain biking are of interest in addition to the many water sport activities. There are also hiking trails directly off the back of the property.

Vacation 2016

Blind Bay is a beautiful resort! This cottage was exactly as described. It was clean and had everything we needed. The owners were very helpful in making sure everything was ok. I would definitely recommend it! There was a lot to do, even though it did rain some.

Very nice accommodation

  • 4 of 5

We rented this house for a week for my sons wedding. It is exactly as described and it met our needs perfectly. The house was clean although we did need to drink bottled water due to the sulphur odor. The kitchen was well stocked with everything for cooking including some basic spices. It was nice to have a big yard and deck. The only downside was Eagle Bay road is quite busy so we had to constantly monitor the little kids outside.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your response. We do understand that Eagle Bay road can be busy and that is why the yard is fenced to ensure kids are kept safe while playing. As for the sulfur smell it can occur sometime as the water source is well water. We can "flush" the system to prevent this so knowing it is happening we can certainly fix it. We apologize for not addressing it while you stayed however we were unaware of the issue at the time. All of the homes in the area are on either well or lake intake for their water. We do have a filtration system so the water is suitable for drinking and cooking however, we do provide a water cooler and extra jugs of water for guests who prefer to drink bottled water.

Summer Solstice at Blind Bay

  • 4 of 5

Very clean, lots of room, we had a full house, 3 RVs and and family in a tent. Never felt crowded. Close to a road so children and pets need to be watched. Nice to have TV to catch the Jays games. Large deck with plenty of seating. Wonderful local store within walking distance to fill all your needs. Water does have a gas smell. Quite strong at first. Master bath had no hot water in the shower. My dad spent some time adjusting several doors to get latches to catch and locks to work. Master bed could use a new mattress. Overall, all of us enjoyed our time there.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. It is unfortunate that none of these items were mentioned to us in person when we met after you had arrived to ensure you had everything you needed. We live in the area and are available to fix any issues that arise if we know about them at the time. It was only after you checked out and left this review did we know there were any problems. Immediately after all the items were fixed properly. We have since installed a new hot water tank and new shower hardware in the master bathroom. The sulfur smell of the water can occur with well water if it has sit for some time in the system and can occur if there is a gap in use or rental of the property. This is easily remedied with a "flushing" of the system. This is not unlike many other homes that are on either well or lake water and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Beach house

This property was ok but four things wrong ,, the TV were out dated with couple channels and the water stinks also there were lots of bees,, I understood it was across the beach but it was a boat launch ,,

Owner's Response: Thank you for the comments as it helps us to improve future guest experiences. The TV's are not flat screen and we do subscribe to the best cable available to the property. We will look into seeing if upgraded service is available for next season. Yes we did have many wasps out here this year due to the hot dry season BC is having out in the Shuswap area so unfortunately it affected the entire area and not just our cabin. This does not happen every year and the last time we had a wasp issues was five years ago in this area. The water is drawn from a well and may have a slight sulphur smell at this time of year due to lower water levels which can be remedied in minutes. We are happy to do so if advised of the issue when it occurs and our phone number is provided to guests to contact us. Yes we are directly across the road from the public boat launch and we state this in our property description. There are two public beaches nearby for use but this property is best for people with a boat who enjoy boating and swimming out in the open water.
