Nawang Sherpa purchased this house in 2008
Had a wonderful experience staying with Pema and AG Sherpa. They have a very nice house in a quiet neighborhood. We felt like we were staying with a relative that we had known for years. Pema came to pick us up at the airport. We enjoyed the delicious home cooked meals with fresh vegetables from their garden. One day the taxis were on strike and they loaned us their car and driver so I could attend a scheduled meeting. She introduced us to an Orphanage that she has been supporting. Meeting the children over there was an experience we will never forget.
We plan to keep in touch with the Sherpas and hope we get another chance to meet them.
The property was exactly as pictured in the add. The beds were very firm but took only a night or two in which to adjust. The real value to Sherpa Villa is getting to know the Shirpa family. I could not have asked for a better hosts. They took me to local areas of interest and offered me a cell phone to use for emergencies or just to call home. All I had to do was go to the local cell phone shop and place more Nepali Rupees on the phone. The cost was very reasonable. The breakfasts were very adequate with choices ranging from eggs either boiled or fried, toast, juice, coffee, or tea. I was provided a daily English newspaper to read. The politeness of the family and their desire to make you feel welcome makes this a worthwhile place to stay. I was offered a chance to visit a Nepali orphanage which the Shirpa family supports and found this to be one of the highlights of my trip. Conversing in English was easily accomplished as the family members are acquainted with English terms. My stay was enjoyable thanks to Sherpa's willingness to Share Nepali culture.
I can recommend this house because of its family who is living there. Unfortunatley we never got to meet them because we were already in the plane towards Kathmandu when the earthquake happened and our plane turned back to Doha- but the family still went to the airport to see if we landed and were happy to hear , once we called them , that we are safe. Also the comunication before we came was excellent - we were really looking forward to meet them and to stay in their house. I totally recommend this place because of the warmth and unconplicated cancellation and refund. We will defintly come back once everything turns back to normal and we hope that we can meet then this great host . I hope Nepal is going to be soon a place where we can come with our son.
My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Pema! What a super sweet lady and wonderful hostess. The home is spacious and rooms are large and comfy. Going during the winter made it chilly at night, but bundling up for bed was required at every place we stayed for the month we were in Nepal so it wasn't an issue.
There are stores and restaurants within walking distance of the house (10 mins) or there are taxis available at the end of the street (2mins). The maid assured we had breakfast waiting each morning and offered us tea and coffee throughout the day.
Pema and her husband are wonderful examples of the friendly people of Nepal! She is warm and caring and that showed when we were able to meet her extended family that arrived to visit our last day there. She also uses the funds she collects from her guests to help supply and care for a local orphanage. I look forward to seeing my new Sherpa friends on my next visit to Nepal!
The best aspect of the stay are the cheerful, friendly, and hospitable hosts. The house itself is spacious and nicely furnished. We were a party of 6 and expected to be accommodated in 3 rooms, but the hosts provided us an extra room at no charge. Being local, the hosts, know Kathmandu and Nepal well and were able to introduce us to a car service for a comfortable trip to Pokhara. We did go in the middle of winter which makes for cold evenings/nights in Kathmandu. Our expectations were realistic in terms of expecting sleeping with lots of covers, and warm clothes, however the house does have nice, strong, hot showers which made us comfortable in the cold weather. Overall we enjoyed the stay and would choose to stay there again.
