Last summer, my family and I had the pleasure of going to Saugatuck for vacation. We stayed in this very nice, roomy, historic home just a block away from town. When entering the home, it had a beautiful staircase going up to four bedrooms that included a master suite with a private bath. The chef's kitchen opened up to a back patio where my family had the opportunity to have breakfast and also grill out. The downstairs included plenty of dining space and a large family room with many unique pieces of art. My favorite part of the house was the big front porch looking out to the well manicured lawn. My family had a wonderful time in Saugatuck and enjoyed staying out this house very much. This home was perfect for an intimate group, or family getaway.
Beautiful home close to Lake Michigan and great resturants. Perfect location for a relaxing weekend.
Home was spotless and beautiful. An amazing weekend getaway, highly recommend. We could walk to everything, restaurants, outside cafes, beer/wine gardens, coffee shop, art galleries, waterfront with beautiful boats, village playground for children. Loved the huge fenced yard with art sculptures - felt like we were staying in an art gallery - inside and out! It was surprisingly private yet one block from the center of town. Great outdoor spaces - very large front porch where we had our morning coffee and afternoon martinis, large backyard deck with professional outdoor grill right off the kitchen, lots of yard space for games or just relaxing in the sun. Great for families with children as the yard is completely fenced. Hosts were extremely accommodating and made sure we had everything and anything we needed. Will be back for sure and will stay for a full week.
Overall the house is a good choice for a family vacation. It was a large clean home that is very centrally located. It was nice to have one home where the entire extended family could stay and by adding on the carriage house everyone had their own rooms. The yard is beautiful and it is an easy drive to explore other areas or a very short walk to town. Saugatuck was a great town to spend a long weekend in.
For the price there were a few downsides to the home - there was a single role of paper towel - two garbage bags - and no extra toilet paper. So my family did a run to the market to supply the house with what we would consider basics. In addition the showers do not drain well (standing in 4 inches of water), and there was no hot water in the carriage house for 3 out of the 4 days we were there. All minor inconveniences but when spending 6000+ for 4 nights these seem like basic items any house would have.

I recently toured this property for interest in hosting corporate events and learned at the time, to my amazement, that this spectacular property is available for vacation rental. It is definitely not a typical “rental” property. It is first class all the way both inside and out. What a great place to take my family for a week long stay and get lost in the nostalgia and feel of “small town USA” – the home and the surroundings feel more like the east coast of the USA instead of the mid west America. The home is in the heart of downtown Saugatuck which is one of the most charming towns in Michigan, all privately owned stores and restaurants (within one block of this exquisite home.) It is truly a step back in time, no corporate America.
Although I have not yet held an event (or vacationed here) the tour was amazing and the property will be perfect for private board meetings, product unveilings, private receptions/ dinners and lively strolling soirees on the beautiful spacious grounds. The large veranda style front porch is charming for guests to socialize over a glass of wine or cup of coffee and the quiet serenity of a large private back yard with private back deck right off the Gourmet Viking Kitchen will be great for “grill outs”.
I highly recommend this property for anyone that wants a first class vacation or private event. The tour of this property exceeded my expectations. I definitely hope I have the opportunity to go back.
Thank you for renting us your home -- we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. During our stay we got to see your martagon lilies bloom and draw swantail butterflies, enjoyed the fragrance of the white pines after a rain, the kids had a lawn to run around, and my mother enjoyed the friendly passers-by saying hello as she enjoyed her book on the front porch. I loved the French doors in the kitchen opening out onto the deck--it brought the out-of-doors right into the kitchen. We actually packed lunches and had breakfasts and four dinners in the house. We never got around to going out for breakfast, which I regret. I certainly appreciated your appliances, including the shallow and wide fridge. We spent time at Oval beach and Saugatuck Dunes beach and took the sunset paddlewheeleer with my mom. I really wish we could have stayed longer.
