Beautiful flowers, lots of wildlife, awesome fishing! Our year-round house sits on the West shore of Lake Winnisquam. This camp has been in our family for three generations. The 24' fireplaced livingroom was originally a one room school house in Laconia, and brought across the ice by draft horses. We have pictures of the original owners & the original B&B guest book for 'Camp Westwood' from the late 1800's. Beautiful spacious sunny rooms all have a view of the lake & Belknap Mountain Range. The kitchen has all the amenities: Jenn-air stove, lg frig, dishwasher and disposal. The large dining area has 2 large bow windows overlooking lake. Play cards on the 24 ft porch with 3 large picture windows and a slider to the deck overlooking the lake. Sit by the outside fireplace eating s'mores and watch the moon rise over the mountains across the lake.
Take in the sunrise with a cup of coffee on the bench of your private 40 ft dock which has easy access to water, for your enjoyment in summer. We have 2 kayaks, a canoe, a new paddle boat & row boat with electric motor for your use at no extra charge! Fishing on Lake Winnisquam is fantastic Summer & Winter, we can show you our secret spots! Sit at the picnic table and watch the eagles, osprey, great blue herons, loons & ducks. There are bird houses and feeders all around the yard. My Grandfather started the beautiful flower, vegetable and herb gardens which surround the property. Follow the native trout babbling brook which borders the property and travels thru the woods either walking or snowshoing. Relax and enjoy the private, woodsy setting, located on a quiet dead end road, away from traffic. In winter, enjoy great Rainbow & Lake Trout fishing in front of the Camp - no 'Ice Fishing House' needed! My husband & I have been lucky enough to have this property in our family for three generations. We live in the carriage house next door. We are avid fishermen and love all 4 seasons here. We have lots of great memories of good times & friendships made over the years. Lake Winnisquam fishing is terrific: Lg & sm. mouth bass, lake trout, rainbow trout, white & yellow perch & sunfish. The wildlife is abundant. The gardens are beautiful! We love to watch the sunrise and the moon rise over the mountains across the lake. We live in a wonderful neighborhood!
DEBBIE purchased this chateau / country house in 1925
We are so thankful that our Grandmother & Grandfather chose this spot back in 1925! Step back in time and read the old guest books and journals from 1903! It is such a beautiful location with the Million Dollar View! We are so happy to be able to spend 4 seasons here.
Relax, quiet, beautiful surroundings. The house is full of charm with sunny spacious rooms filled with history. We have two 45' HDTVs, one in the living room and one in the master bedroom. We have an apple tree, and fresh beautiful flowers & herbs surrounding the property, ready for picking! We enjoy feeding the birds and watching them nest in the houses by the lake.
During Winter we ice fish in front of the house, x-country ski, downhill ski/tubing, snowmobile to Canada from our front yard/snowshoe the woods exploring animal tracks along the brook.
FROM OUR GUEST BOOK: "JOHN & I HAD A VERY RELAXING VACATION AT CAMP WESTWOOD. YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL HOME & SUCH A GREAT SPOT...
THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HOSPITALITY.
Camp Westwood is on a beautiful location on Lake Winnisquam with beautiful sunrises. The home is well stocked to meet the needs of just about anyone who visits. It was so nice to step out the door lakeside, and be able to walk on the dock in so few steps. There's even a bench on the dock to sit, fish, or just enjoy the views. The listing information was completely accurate. We enjoyed the tranquility, and the hospitality of the owners, Deb & Mark!
I would like to start out by thanking Mark and Debbie for being such wonderful hosts at Camp Westwood on Lake Winnisquam! Our family has rented lakehomes in New England through VRBO/Homeaway for the last five years, and we all agreed that this by far has been the best! The house had more than enough room for 8 adults and 4 children to relax and play. The house was spotless and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed for a week of extensive meals, including a lobster dinner for 16! The yard provided plenty of room for games and play. The lake proved to be perfect for all members of our family including the babies. The water is shallow in a large enough area that the kids felt very safe paddling around and standing on the paddleboard. The adults were able to swim, float, kayak, canoe, and paddle around in the deeper water. If we were not in the lake, we relaxed in the many adirondack chairs set around the yard or on the deck or on the dock. Every evening we ate dinner outside on the three picnic tables. At night, we sat outside under the stars and enjoyed the huge harvest moon which shone over the water. It was glorious! Mark and Debbie were available if we needed them We especially enjoyed talking about the history of the house, the area around the lake, and fishing with them. They also shared vegetables from their fantastic garden, which was a wonderful surprise. It was a wonderful week full of beautiful memories!! I would enthusiastically recommend Camp Westwood to anyone looking for a real New England lake vacation!
We have been vacationing in rental properties on Lake Winnisquam for over 15 years. This is a beautiful spot that is also convenient to many local attractions and services. The house has an interesting history--it was once a one room school house--and it reflects it. The house was very clean and well-maintained. Bathrooms were all recently updated and spotless. Lots of pinewood boards throughout with bear- and duck-themed decorations. This is more of a "camp" than a "hotel" feel. However, it was not rustic. Lots of bird feeders, birds and ducks to watch throughout our stay. The ducks will eat from your hand if offered. Our kids--ages 18-10--had a great time in the water with the kayaks and the power boat that we rented for tubing in the middle of the week. The owners are always available, which can be a forgotten plus if something goes wrong or does not work--not an issue during our stay. (In the past, we have stayed at rentals where the owners were out of state and something broke down and that was a problem.) Mark & Debbie are very attentive to the property and knowledgeable of the area. If you want to chat them up, it's easy; if you just want to be left alone, they are fine with that too.
First of all, Debbie & Mark are the NICEST people you'll ever meet! They greeted us upon arrival, gave us a tour of the house and grounds, and told us to let them know if we needed anything. Right after they greeted us, a mama duck and her 11 tiny ducklings showed up to greet us as well. There's a container of corn to feed them with, and they regularly came around for snacks throughout the day. It was such a joy to watch them! The house is very comfortable, with lots of seating, and the kitchen is well stocked. The king bed upstairs was like sleeping on a cloud, soooo comfy. The upstairs bathrooms are brand new and so cute. We had plenty of towels and paper products. The views are gorgeous, especially in the morning as the sun comes through the trees and shines on the lake. It was really nice to have use of the kayaks & boat, and my son did some catch & release fishing, which he loved. The house is full of interesting photos and history about the house. And as we also discovered, Debbie is quite the fisher woman, with some amazing catches to her credit :-) We hosted 2 family events, one of them with 24 people, so Mark kindly brought over some extra chairs for us to use. The weather was perfect that day and we all sat outside and had lunch at the picnic tables. We BBQ'd a few times, and cooked lobster one night. On Debbie's advice, we got the lobster from the Market Basket and all agreed that they were the sweetest, most tender lobster we've ever eaten. We ate at Fratello's, our favorite Italian restaurant, and I discovered the most delicious chicken pot pie I've ever had at the 99 restaurant. Although it was motorcycle week, most of the action was on the other side of the lake, so other than distant motorcycle noise, it was very quiet on our side. Debbie & Mark do indeed have a little piece of heaven right there on the lake and we thank them for sharing it with us. We had a wonderful time, and have already booked our trip for next year! I recommend, without hesitation, this lovely house and it's down to earth, very sweet owners, Debbie & Mark. Go and have fun!!!
Great place to stay in. Very clean house Debbie and Mark are very friendly and helpful. Everything we asked for they provided. Definitely will rent there again
We spent a wonderful long weekend family gathering and had a great time. The Lake is beautiful, the house was exactly as described, clean, comfy and everything we could possibly need. Debbie and Mark were great hosts. They met us upon arrival, gave us a tour, and let us know that they were available if we needed anything; then they left us to enjoy ourselves in beautiful Camp Westwood. We had fun with the paddleboat, the rowboat, and the fishing poles- Mark even stopped by and gave us some helpful tips that resulted in catching quite a few fish right off the end of the dock! We had cookouts and enjoyed watching a mama duck with her nine ducklings. We were never at a loss for entertainment..... I would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay on the Lake in a place with some history and personality and have a classic New Hampshire Lake experience!
