This vacation rental house belonged to my grandmother & has all the charm of a 50s & 60s summer house with the upgrades of the 80s & 90s.
The house has beds to sleep 8 with room for 2 more all on one floor. The master bedroom has a king & a twin bed along with a private bath. The other 3 bedrooms are located at the other end of the house along with another full bath.
The house has TV, cable, wifi & a dishwasher in a very roomy, 1400 sf, single-story house. The house is fully furnished with all the plates, utensils, pots and pans in a full kitchen. We also supply bedding & towels.
Grandma’s Getaway is a great location to access Whiteface, the Olympic Mountain. The house can also be a great hiking or biking base & offers easy access to the High Peaks for all the outdoor activities the Adirondacks offers. It is close to the quaint shops and activities that Lake Placid has to offer without having to pay the higher rental rates.
Grandma's Getaway is located at the end of a dead end road overlooking an old horse pasture.

I grew up in Albany and moved to the Adirondacks in 2005. I absolutely love this area. The scenery is spectacular and the people are friendly. I started my vacation rental in 2010 and have enjoyed meeting my guests or letting them have their privacy. I am available to guide you to an enjoyable stay. I provide links for things to do and places to eat. If you chat with me, you will find that I thrive on helping people get the most out of their visit. It makes me happiest to know that I have been a part of your time in the Adirondacks and will welcome you back.
This house has been in the family for years. If only the walls could talk!
This house is spacious and is made for fun both indoors and out. The yard is large enough for you to bring a volleyball net. The fire pit is great for cool evenings to enjoy the fresh air and the stars on clear nights. The carport is awesome for those raining days that you want to be out and stay dry.
The house was very comfortable and cozy. We loved the yard. Watching fireworks from the yard with a fire in the pit made it special!

I recommend this home to anyone.Try it and you will know what I mean.
The location is perfect as a "home-base" for travelling around this beautiful area. Only 10-20 minutes to Lake Placid and Whiteface, less than 2 hours to Montreal, nestled in the picturesque Adirondacks. The house is older, but in great shape. Plenty of room to spread out, huge dining room table, nice-sized and well-stocked kitchen (they even have a crock pot!). The enclosed porch was our favorite part of the house, we ate every meal there (when we weren't outside). Washer/dryer in one of the rooms was very handy to have. You can hear a babbling creek down the hill behind the house, and there's a short walkable path just off the property to get to it. Lots of granite and quartz down there in the gentle, crystal clear water. The property has a small grove of tall pine trees that is perfect for taking some chairs out and just relaxing in the shade. Very large front yard, lots of firewood and kindling for the rock fire-ring. Comfortable beds. Our young kids loved the small collection of games and toys, and especially the foosball table. Clean, well-kept house. Kim was wonderful, met our needs and answered our questions without delay, and was a wonderful and accommodating host. She has a binder of local attractions, shops, restaurants, and such for folks to look for (one recommendation would be to have those web-page links available in an email or webpage, or other "clickable" form). Make sure to bring a great camera!
Grandma's Getaway is a clean, spacious, charming home right in the heart of the Adirondacks. There was enough space for my four children to actually get along for the week. The well equipped kitchen facilitated home cooked meals which we ate at the wonderfully ample dining table. The local farmer's markets and organic food stores yielded amazing culinary choices. The front yard is large and well trimmed, while the back of the house is nestled into the woods. There is a lumber and building supply company bordering the far edge of the property, but it is only active during normal business hours, and closed by late afternoon. There is an endless supply of firewood stacked on the porch. We set up a spotting scope in the car port and could see the castle on top of White Face Mountain and the gondolas moving on Little White Face. It is 15 minutes to White Face, 25 minutes to Lake Placid. The scenery on the drive is fantastic. We spent a day in Vermont, taking the ferry over Lake Champlain (look for "Champ" the lake monster!), visiting the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory, and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. We spent another day at the W!ld Center in Tupper Lake. It's like a zoo/museum/fun park. We learned a lot there without even realizing it. Did you know that Adirondack State Park is over 6 million acres? To see the Olympic sites, get the Olympic Passport, it may seem pricey until you realize it will keep you busy for 2 or three days without spending another penny. The best part of our daily sojourns was returning back to Grandma's Getaway, where we would cook or grill the day's dinner discoveries, build a campfire, watch the stars, then pat across the comfy carpet to the hardwood floor bedrooms and snuggle under as many blankets with as many pillows as a person could possibly need. The king bed in the master bedroom was firm and comfortable. My kids all reported sleeping well in their beds. The showers are clean and there was plenty of hot water. Did I mention there is a dishwasher? And a washer and dryer. All fairly new and in good working condition. Don't bring bottled water. The tap water is absolutely mineral free and delicious, with no water softener needed. Kim Coolidge provided all the information necessary to find and enjoy Grandma's Getaway and the surrounding area. She provided informative and sometimes humorous emails at every step of the rental process. If you have a larger family or group, you can't go wrong with Grandma's Getaway.
Fresh air and enough beds for all our family and friends to be under one roof. It was a great place for everyone to use as "home base" for the varied activities each day. Then returning for an evening of stories and tales together around the huge table. Then later under the carport. The older kids really enjoyed the fire pit each night. As they advertise, it is a wonderful mix of 50's, 60's, 80's and 90's features and accommodations. The whole house was clean and Kim was able to answer all our questions.
Spacious living area where our 4 families could gather at the end of the day for dinner and chatting about our day. The open porch and carport offered additional opportunities to gather outside. Clean and comfortable environment, great views of mountains, with a brook babbling behind the house. Great people to work with.
Clean, roomy, open layout. We filled all the beds with family and friends and had a great weekend. Service was prompt and courteous; Kim was wonderfully helpful, no matter how many questions we asked. The young kids enjoyed room to run and the not-so-young kids enjoyed lounging under the carport watching them and catching up on everyone's busy lives.
Grandma's Getaway is conveniently located for easy access to the best the Adirondacks has to offer!
Grandma's Getaway is located 17 miles from Lake Placid and just 7 miles from Whiteface. The Ironman bike loop goes right through Jay only a mile from the house. And the house's strategic location makes it ideal for accessing the race bike course. You can even cheer on your favorite races twice in each loop using the back road that the house is along. Grandma' Getaway offers easy access to the High Peaks for hiking and all outdoor activities the Adirondacks offers.
