This home was perfect for our family vacation. The location was ideal -- just a short stroll to the beach and great view from front deck. The beach was perfect for kids.
The house itself suited us perfectly -- four comfortable bedrooms, large tables allowing 8 to dine comfortably. Loved the courtyard for dinners and evening hot tub. Decor of the house gives of feeling of luxury, but still very durable/comfortable so not panicked about kids sitting on furniture.
Lots of beach equipment provided, including rolling carts to easily carry stuff to the beach. The beach umbrella was broken, but when I contacted Brant, he had it replaced the next day! Some of the boogie boards were not in good shape, but still usable.
High chair, crib, and stroller all provided for our 1 1/2 year old.
We cooked most of our meals in the home -- and the kitchen was very well stocked!
I would definitely recommend this home to others vacationing in the area.
Just got back from booking this home for a week and was happy I did. The view/location alone with the outside patio/fire pit where you can feel the ocean breeze, people watch, and see the ocean/beach right in front of you is worth it alone. However, the layout, jacuzzi, home away from home amenities close walk to downtown la jolla for the coffee shops ect. are all added bonuses. Even saved money on having to rent a crib because the home already had one available. We went with my wife and two younger children and they loved it as well. Also, Brant was always responsive setting this up and booking it, checking in and out was easy.
House is delightful and perfect for a family trip. Kids loved the big TVs, separate bedrooms, hot tub (that wasn't too hot for them), fire pit. But the best part of all was the location. Right across the street from the beach. You cannot be any closer. Every evening we walked across the street for sunset. It was magic. Kids also loved the nearby playground and restaurants/shops 3-4 blocks away. Also close to Legoland and Safari Park. Owners were responsive and fixed a VERY minor problem with a ceiling fan within hours. Truly awesome. STAY HERE.
The house is exceptional. Beautifully decorated yet extremely comfortable. Great TV setup, compatible with my media player. Fully enclosed backyard and courtyard to keep pets and kids safe. Lots of space. The wine refrigerator in the kitchen was a welcome surprise. Private hot tub. Great Master Bath/Closet. Superb location. If you love the ocean, this is the place. Great restaurants within an easy short walk. Our favorite was Barbarella. We parked the car in the garage and didn't move it the entire week we were there. Walking to the village was a little more challenging due to the short stretch of busy road, but we did the 3.5 mile round trip three times. Great town.
Our family has travelled fairly extensively with this being our 3rd home rental in the last few years (Orlando, Maui being the others) - so we have some basis for comparison. We have been to San Diego a few times in recent years and were looking this year to do a stay with our parents and teenage daughter in La Jolla. I saw this house last fall and thought it to be the perfect fit, but it was booked for the week we wanted. Imagine my surprise when one cold January day in Canada, we found that it was now available for our March dates.... There are many nice-appearing places in La Jolla, but nothing that seemed as perfect as this one, so we jumped on it when it came open. Very glad we did.
All the good stuff has already been said... Location, location, location. Perfect for the beach, for access to down-town La Jolla, and for a quick trip to SD. The front deck and back courtyard give you all the options you need. Glass of wine or brew on the deck for sunset. Coffee in the courtyard in the a.m. when it is a little cooler in front of the house.
I always find it helpful to read the worse reviews also, to get a different sense of what you are stepping into. I suppose that if a high-end hotel is your point of reference, you will find issues. There might be a little dust on a fixture in the corner somewhere, or a piece of caulking that needs replacing in a shower, or you might not get a matched set of wine glasses, but for us this stuff is trivial. Everything you need is there. It is such a dream to have a cold drink over the fire on the front deck, enjoying the view of the palm trees, the surfers and the waves breaking. I truly had that feeling you hope to get on vacation (but seldom do), where you can forget about the other stuff in your life and just enjoy a perfect moment in a perfect day. We had a couple of these moments.
Regarding the property management, I didn't get to meet Brant, but we traded emails as necessary, and there was never a problem. He was very attentive and responsive. For newbees, I strongly encourage you to contact the property manager if you have any problems. We fretted over stuff on one of our other rentals (in Maui) for a few days, then called. In that case, the stuff was fixed in an hour once we called. Brant was equally keen to make the experience here positive whenever something came up.
We'll be back!
My wife and I "discovered" this gem 5 years ago. We started out staying one month (January), that soon grew to 2 month, and now we are scheduled to enjoy the entire winter next year. The house is perfectly located a few feet away, for a beach walk, or a stroll through Kellogg Park. Just 3 blocks from downtown La Jolla Shores that has 6 restaurants and numerous specialty shops. La Jolla Village is a 3 minute drive up the hill (and we enjoy walking that sometimes as well).
The house is perfect for us when the children and grandchildren arrive for week long stays when we use all four bedrooms. They love the hot tub and back porch for playing. We all wait for the gorgeous California sunsets viewed perfectly from the front porch. Kids attractions, The Zoo, Lego Land, The Aquarium are close by and great fun for everyone.
The kitchen is nicely stocked with dishes, glass, silverware and all the necessary things you need if you want to cook .
The property is expertly managed by Brant and Moriah, who live a few blocks away. Nothing is to small for them to help, and assist to make sure everything goes perfectly. The respond promptly to every need.
Its our unofficial winter home. I'm sure you will enjoy it the other months as much as we do.
