Having a great family reunion with CA, AZ and Colorado family gathering. Great place to stay. It really has met and exceeded expectations and kitchen is perfect. Taking trips to Cambria, Morro bay, Elephant Seals, Monterey and Solvang. Love the Cookie Factory! Such a laid back, relaxed atmosphere with not a fast food restaurant in sight. 24 people from 7yrs to 80 yrs. Yesterday we went to the Hearst Castle. Beautiful. Karaoke was fun.
First let me say there are not a lot of places that will accommodate up to 29 people!
This is the second time we have rented the Pickford House for our Mother's birthday gatherings. The Pickford house makes you feel as if you've stepped back in time with it's 1800 decor while accommodating large groups of people at the same time. The fact that each quest has their own bedroom and bath, I can't say enough about. The downstairs bar/dinning area allows all to gather at the same time to enjoy each others company. The surrounding area, of course, speaks for itself.
Would we rent again? You bet!!
Our family, 17 in all, enjoyed The Pickford House last month for our family reunion. We had such a wonderful experience. Everyone enjoyed the lovely rooms and convenient bathrooms. When we were downstairs playing games the young babies rested well upstairs, not even disturbed by the noise. The large kitchen and dining area worked so well for our delicious meals. We definitely want to come back again. Thank you Marci for all you helpfulness, and a big thank you to our wonderful onsite helper.
Our college group has been getting together in January for the past 27 years and we've returned to the Pickford House twice. We love the nice bedrooms with individual bathrooms. We like to cook and the commercial kitchen is great and well stocked with cookware and dishes. There's plenty of room for all of us to spread out (we had a group of 16 including young children, adults and 20-year-olds). We love sitting by the fireplace, relaxing with a glass of wine and spreading out with board games on the tables. Everyone in our group said it is one of the most relaxing places to stay with a large group!
The house has wi-fi, so that was great as we updated our weekend facebook posts too! They also have cable TV and a karaoke machine (but we didn't use either).
Cambria is a great place to visit and use as a jumping off spot for the rest of the county. We took our group to Hearst Castle, SLO, the beach and zip lining in Santa Margarita (about 45 min away)!
We highly recommend the Pickford House for groups!
Beware the 9th bedroom (which is the one accessible for the elders) for it shares walls with a live-in neighbor who likes rap music, resembles a C- motel room, and has odor issues. My husband and I were celebrating my 80th birthday and our 60th wedding anniversary with our grand family. Not the accomodations we would have chosen. Other than the 9th "bedroom" and the plumbing back-up and the accident in the parking area (the cement bumpers are not centered...just restripe it!), we truly did have a special gathering. Would we stay again? Sorry but probably not. Please rent only suitable lodgings to your guests and understand the property has weaknesses currently and families are coming from coast to coast. This should be a really wonderful venue. I hope that happens for the next family and I hope the owner loves constructive critiques .
HI MARCI AS ALWAYS WE HAVE SUCH AN AMAZING TIME AT THE PICKFORD HOUSE. WE ARRIVED ON A THURSDAY AND DEPARTED ON SUNDAY. WE LOVE THE HOUSE AND ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO OUR ARRIVAL THEN SAD FOR OUR DEPARTURE. THANKS FOR HAVING US BACK FOR THE 4TH TIME IN A ROW! TERRY WRIGHT
Our family gathered for a reunion and chose the Pickford House because of its location, half way between Northern California and Southern California, as we live in both locations. We had a fantastic time. The little town of Cambria is delightful. The Friday Farmers' Market is great. "Moonstone" Beach is great. It wasn't even windy on the beach! The house is big enough for all of us to gather around the table for meals and sit around the fireplace, although, it was too warm for a fire, it was still lovely! All of the rooms are nicely theme decorated. Being foodies, we are all about the kitchen and meals. Two nice big frig/freezers, 6 burner stove, oven (BUT no broiler, just FYI), electric waffle iron that works great! Toaster, mixer, blender.... some basic spices and cornstarch. The kitchen has seen better days, but it worked great and plenty big enough for a bunch of people working in there. The big bar made for a nice backdrop for a group photo as well as a place for gathering. We plan to go back!!! Thanks, Marci for a great time!
