The Lorelei Cabins are located in Dubuque, Iowa, near Swiss Valley Park. The beautifully decorated cabins, The Edelweiss and The Aster, and our newest property, The Homestead, are perfect for any getaway. The cabins and the house are secluded in an area with over 400 acres of land, yet close enough to the city of Dubuque to enjoy the restaurants, shopping, and other amenities a city has to offer.
A perfect place for a family gathering, reunion, wedding or a romantic getaway. Each season has it's own unique offerings, with the vibrant leaves in the fall, the snow activities in the winter, and the relaxing tranquility of the ponds and Catfish Creek in the spring and summer.
The sunsets are abundant, and the lights of the city are a beautiful back drop to this area. Viewing the wild life and various scenes of nature are an experience everyone can appreciate. Walking in the woods, having a picnic or bird watching, is also recommended.

Laura is originally from Dubuque, Iowa, and Jim is originally from Milwaukee. They have been married 28 years and have three grown 'children'. Both have human service back grounds. Jim is a motivational speaker/educator and owns Creative Education Services as well as Lorelei Cabins with Laura. The best part of owning the cabins has been the great people they get to meet all of the time, and the events in people's lives they are able to share.
Laura purchased this cabin in 2009
This property has been family owned since 1930. The Edelweiss Cabin and the Aster Cabin were built in 2009 and 2010. The idea was to offer beautiful upscale cabins, on this property so others can enjoy the area and all of the natural beauty has to offer. There are over 400 acres to hike, snow shoe, bird watch, picnic or even fish. Enjoy the water with our paddle boat and canoe. My home is a hillside away from the cabin, so we are available to take care of any problems or to help your stay be complete. This cabin, the Edelweiss and the Aster Cabin are a perfect pairing for family reunions or other events.
WE offer hot tubs all year round, and beautiful scenery all seasons. Our kitchens are fully equipped so you never have to leave to go out to eat unless you want to. We are honoring my mother, Sally von Carlowitz with this endeavor, as it wouldn't have happened unless she convinced us to follow through in providing this magical experience. We all loved the Sound of Music, which is why the cabins are named as they are, and Lorelei is named after myself, Laura, and my sister, Lisa. Unfortunately, my mother passed away suddenly in 2010 before the second cabin was finished. I believe she is watching over us and happy with how everything turned out and really happy at how busy all of this has been keeping me!
As soon as we walked into the cabin we felt at home, and then we met you and Jim and we felt even more at home, almost like we had known you both forever. Lovely people, lovely cabin! We could not have stayed at a more beautiful place and more peaceful surrounding. We will certainly spread the word to our friends and family about this "best kept secret"!! And you can be certain we will certainly be returning!! Thank you so much for your hospitality!
We stayed for an anniversary weekend and I would recommend it for anybody. The cabin has absolutely anything you could need from pots and pans to towels up the wazoo. Very relaxing. Hot tub beneath the stars, amazing! Amazing restaraunts around town. Beautiful views of the river. I love it. All of it. Would come back a million times over.
Enjoyed our anniversary at the Edelweiss cabin. Very clean and well decorated interior. We had a fantastic stay for two nights in February and had perfect weather. Sunshine, light winds and temps in the high 60's. We enjoyed the private hiking trails, sitting out along the serene pond, enjoying the hot tub and sitting at the fire pit in the evening seeing all the stars in the clear dark sky above. It was so quiet and relaxing to be there. We also enjoyed all the eagles we saw flying in the awesome clear blue skies and watching the deer from the cabin in the early morning and at dusk. What a wonderful place and we want to go back again this year. Thanks to Laura and Jim for sharing their lovely property with us.
The cabin came with everything you could need! It was clean & well maintained.
Such a great cabin! Very clean and well appointed. We all enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. The kids enjoyed playing horse and ping pong in the party barn. Close to downtown Dubuque, yet seemed like you were so far away from it all when you turned down the lane. Quick drive to shops in Galena too. We had a great time.
Let us add our glowing review to the dozens of positive reviews that others have already written here. We recently spent two wonderful days and nights at the Edelweiss cabin to celebrate our anniversary, and we could have not asked for a more peaceful and romantic experience. The cabin is very clean and well furnished with most anything you might need for your stay. The view from the screened-in porch is amazing—we saw deer playing in the open meadow behind the house, wild turkeys strutting in the open areas, and all manner of birds and other wildlife. We enjoyed the hot tub and fire pit each night as we gazed at the stars, and we also made use of the kayaks and paddleboat that are provided.
Even more than the comfortable and well-maintained cabin and property, however, you will soon come to appreciate the glorious privacy and the sense of peace and tranquility that make this such an amazing experience. We were just a few minutes drive to all of the historic sites in Dubuque, yet when we settled in at the Edelweiss cabin, we felt that we were a world away from the noise and commotion of a busy city.
Laura was a pleasure to work with, and we enjoyed the freshly baked cookies when we arrived. The Edelweiss cabin is perfect for one or two couples, but with the other cabin just a short walk away, this setting would be perfect for a small family get-together as well. We will no doubt return for another relaxing stay, and we have already told some of our friends about the cabins.
Place is great. Property expansive, great for letting the kids roam. You do share pond with other cabin but fishing, hiking, hanging out all very good. All that space yet grocery 5 min and Galena 20 min away. Our experience all good and we will be back. If they could only control the weather it would be perfect!
