Guestbook comments from the owner

I cannot begin to tell you how much we enjoyed our visit in your lovely mountain home! It is more lovely than we could have imagined, and the internet does not do it justice. Our visit to Montana was more enjoyable than last time, and we did a lot more than three years ago. We contribute most of that to where we stayed! We rented a raft and floated down the Flathead, road horses at Many Glacier, hiked to Avalanche Falls and Hidden Lakes, went to Polebridge (one of our favorite places) twice, saw bears, a moose, eagles, ground squirrels, chipmunks, many many hummingbirds, beavers. I could go on and on!!

Sanctuary and great base for our trip to Glacier National Park

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything we could have hoped for and more. We spent most of the day hiking and exploring and then coming back to this beautiful base. We nicknamed the front porch hummingbird highway and enjoyed the view of Flathead river.

The owner called when we arrived and in advance of our trip due to flooding that was occurring.

Awesome stay and thank you for giving me the inspiration to travel back.

What a gem, peace, quiet, beauty, well done.

  • 5 of 5

1st, in 26 years of renting log cabins never have the hubby & kids said, "Let's stay here instead of going out hiking/exploring today," until Glacier Chalet. 2nd, never has an owner called to make sure we got there ok & that everything was as expected, til now.

Beautifully laid out, spacious, all the creature comforts we could ask, fire pit, gas grill, great deck for meals & balcony for early morning coffee or wildlife viewing. Very comfortable cabin, with all the little things one has in their HOME - wide variety of spices & odds & ends in kitchen, soap & laundry soap, washer & dryer, comfy linens, books/dvds/wifi/game closet. Loved the way the focal point of living room is the gorgeous river rock fireplace w no tv, leading to family time, yet if one has to have tv it is located upstairs in loft, overlooking living room but separate enough for "separateness in your togetherness." The beautiful river view dominates the home, as does the sounds & sights of nature. We counted 3 different hummingbirds visiting the feeders on the porch, & a chickadee has taken up residence in the house hanging there as well. 12 minutes to Glacier's west gate, grocery stores nearby. Found it was a much shorter drive to Many Glacier area than we expected when we were going to hike Grinnell Glacier Trail & some others. Only problem was we didn't stay long enough, which we'll remedy in the next few years. Many thanks to Steve & Cathy for renting out this wonderful haven!

Serenity on the Flathead River

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this particular property, the first stay having been nearly 8 years ago. At that time, we swore we would one day return, and I'm so glad that we did. Daily fishing from the riverbank, s'mores by the campfire, and hummingbird activity made this such a memorable stay with our 2 daughters, ages 8 and 10. We took day trips to Glacier NP, Whitefish Mountain, Flathead Lake, and to West Glacier for a gentle float 7 miles down the Flathead River. Very clean and spacious with a bit of remodeling in the kitchen this visit.

Again, we will be back.

Warning to you, the renter

  • 1 of 5

I write this to warn future renters. The owner suggests in the FAQs for you to purchase travel insurance in case of flooding, among other issues you might face. Well what he doesn't tell you is it's a good idea, not because you might encounter a flooding issue with the river as much as because the driveway to this home has a stream that runs over it and there is not adequate construction of the driveway when that stream overflows to make it passable. I rented during the flooding in late May 2016. Of the 7 nights I paid for, I was able to access the home for only 4 of those nights due to the driveway being impassible. Did I receive any compensation for the lack of access or the inconvenience of staying in a hotel rather than where I paid to stay? No. To me travel insurance is coverage for my personal issues that come up as a result of something wrong that I can not control, not to cover the owner of a property for which they are receiving payment with the expectation of providing a service (in this case access to a property). It doesn't matter how wonderful this property is if you can't use it and I don't typically pay for things I can't use.

Owner's Response: This was a 100 year event – the local emergency service people told the guest this. The local paper said more than 6 inches of rain have fallen in the past three days in the Canyon and North Fork areas, with lesser amounts of rain elsewhere in Northwest Montana. The rains flooded the state and county roads which the county then closed. The flood overran the county road and then flooded our access road after the county road. If the state and county cannot design around a 100 year flood event then there is no way we could have on our access road. You can get information on this event from the local paper at http://www.dailyinterlake.com/news/local_montana/high-water-closes-three-roads/article_f8781a10-20f7-11e6-b30b-0f8097713093.html http://flatheadbeacon.com/2016/05/23/north-fork-road-closed-due-flooding/ The reason we and VRBO recommend that people purchase travel insurance is for things (like floods or fires) that are beyond anyone’s control. There has only been two times in the last thirty year that guests were unable to reach the cabin. The first was a forest fire in the area and then this one.

Beautiful cabin in the perfect location!!

  • 5 of 5

The Chalet was exactly what our family was hoping it would be! Inside and out this is a beautiful cabin. The views are spectacular as well. The owner was very helpful and answered every question we had before we arrived. He even called shortly after we arrived just to see if we needed anything. It is a short drive to the west entrance of Glacier. We will definitely be back!

A Glorious Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic place! I brought my mom here as part of a birthday gift--she is 86--and we absolutely loved every second of our time in this beautiful home. While there were only three of us, you could house many more comfortably. Located literally right on the river, the setting is simply lovely. The sound and views of the river were spectacular, and made for a very relaxing time. One could simply sit on the deck for hours on end. But Glacier called and the location of the cabin made accessing the park easy, too. The house is wonderfully well prepared for visitors, and Steve even mailed us the coats my mom forgot there. I would highly recommend this lovely home to anyone traveling to Glacier or Kalispell, and really hope to return with my family again.
