Overview

About the property

Gorgeous Rocky Mt Lodge, 5 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 12) - Gourmet Kitchen

In Ski jargon, 'Black Diamonds' are the toughest ski runs and for experts only-- but you won't need to be an expert to enjoy this Rocky Mountain Luxury Alpine Lodge! At 10,500 feet, it is nestled in the heart of South Park. Western Frontier meets Elegance in this Gracious home.

You'll find the BDAL rivals fine European ski lodges and provides high end amenities without the crowded tourist feeling and high prices you will find only 17 miles away in Summit County and Breckenridge. Completely avoid the I-70 weekend & holiday traffic jams by taking US Highway 285 practically right to the house-- it is a breathtaking 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs. Convenient to major highways in snowy weather, (this is VERY important!) the BDAL is beautifully tucked into pine and aspen forests with huge views.

This is a custom built, luxury 5000 sq ft home overlooking the amazing Continental Divide - huge views of Fourteeners right out your windows or from the private hot tub! Perfect for entertaining, the Gourmet kitchen invites you to host large families and friends.

The vaulted Great Room with large log scissor-trusses and a stone-surround wood-burning stove creates a fabulous resort lodge experience. Plenty of wood available!

The entire upper level is heated with radiant in-floor heat.

5 large bedrooms (3 kings/1 queen/2 sets of bunks) and 3 large baths will easily accommodate 12.

The luxury master suite is an eye-popper-- see all the features below for it. There is a second king suite upstairs. Downstairs you'll find two more spacious bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with 2 sets of bunks (1 set memory foam full-size mattresses), and another large bath as well. The downstairs Great Room is an excellent entertainment area (Billiards, Foosball, Home Theater) to give you (and the kids!) room to spread out.

This 5 acre property has the remnants of a gold mine from the last century. The water there even has two schools of Rainbow Trout (just for looking--no fishing please--they are just getting established!). There are several stocked fishing locations within 5 minutes' drive. We've also cleared a ski/sledding run on the hillside behind the house! Hands down one of the nicest rental homes in South Park. You will find the BDAL to be an elegant retreat with a unique Rocky Mountain touch-- you'll want to come back again and again!

Things to do: ATVs are available to rent in the Fairplay area. You can also arrange horseback riding and white water rafting a short drive from the home. Biking is a big attraction in the summer. The Annual South Park Burro Race and street festival is very popular as well. In Feb each year, the Ice Sculptures in Breckenridge are truly spectacular. Truly, the activities in the area are almost limitless in all the seasons.

Why Chuck Brininstool chose Alma

This is one of the most beautiful places in the world. We enjoy the convenience of all the different kinds of mountain fun in our own front yard. While we are in the mountains, it only takes 2 mins to be on the hwy to Summit County. Your vehicle won't be stuck on a steep driveway during the snow months.

What makes this lodge unique

After a great day of skiing, skip the I-70 bumper-to-bumper traffic for hours to get home. We are in the middle of Fourteeners, gold medal fishing, biking, and hiking--God's country. Sledding hill in backyard.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Teresa, thank you so much for the use of your home. It is the most amazing, beautiful place I've ever stayed. You are truly lucky to own such a piece of paradise.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

What a great place! There were 13 of us sharing this house between 4 families, and there was a ton of space for everyone. The house was beautifully decorated, and the bedrooms are spread through the house so that everyone had their privacy. The bedrooms and living areas were spacious and comfortable, and the kitchen was amazingly stocked with pots, pans, graters, colanders . . . anything you would need. The house is secluded and private and the view of the mountains was a sight to behold in the mornings particularly. A beautiful drive to Breckenridge and less pricey because it's not in the thick of everything. For us, it was a win-win! Would stay here again without a doubt. Do beware of the altitude, as Alma is at 10,700 feet. You will likely want to give yourself a day to acclimate.

Recent stay

  • 5 of 5

I cant thank you enough for your hospitality and beautiful home! It has all the amenities you can imagine! We felt like we were right at home. We made so many memories and so much laughter while staying at your home. It was comfortable and with the open floor plan we were able to enjoy one another's company at all times. We had a great time playing pool and foosball as well! We enjoyed the South Park Saloon which was minutes from the house as well as many fun activities in Breckenridge. I highly recommend this home and it was great for us as we had 3 couples and worked out perfectly. Thank you Chuck for a wonderful vacation!

Beautiful & amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The house was awesome! Had all that my group and I can ask for. Big, spacious, and very clean! If I had to say 1 negative thing is the internet was slow. But still gave it a 5 star. Would recommend and I definitely would stay here again. Thanks Chuck for sharing your home to us.

Lovely Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this cabin last month and absolutely loved it. We had two families, the adults and children all enjoyed our stay. The hot tub and sauna were great to have after a day of skiing. Chuck is very helpful, responsive, and easy to work with. This is definitely one of our favorite cabins we've stayed in. If we're back in the area again this cabin will be our first choice!

Amazing! Perfect place to call Home in the Mountains!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a Christmas week with family up in the mountains, and it was the perfect place for us to call home. The views were amazing as the house is tucked back in the trees with amazing views of the mountains. The house was perfect for us because it was quiet yet only about 20 minutes from Brekenridge for skiing, snowboarding, and shopping. The house met everyone's needs in the family and was spot-less.

Chuck was very easy to work with and was responsive on all the questions we had. I would highly recommend staying at this property. We had so much fun and plan to be back for another family vacation soon!

Fantastic house - everything one needs in a mountain retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my family met my sister and her family in this house "half way" between Aurora OH and Seattle WA. The 9 of us thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful home and all that it (and the area) had to offer us. We did not want for anything in this well-appointed house. It was clean and exceeded our expectations in every way. The home is close to Breckenridge, Vail, rafting on the Arkansas River and outstanding hiking - the coffee shop in town is also very nice! Chuck (the owner) was friendly and accommodating. I could not recommend this home more positively.
