Southwest Harbor House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Head of the Harbor Overlook is a recently renovated cottage overlooking Southwest Harbor, Sutton Island, the Cranberry Islands, and Greening Island. This ideal spot is within walking distance of superb restaurants, specialty shops, a full service marina, galleries, and sea glass hunting. Coffee shops, an ice cream parlor, and children's playground are just a few things that are within a five minute walk. In just minutes you can drive to Echo Lake, Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, and many other popular Acadia National Park destinations. Don't want to drive? Load up on the free MDI shuttle that stops directly across the street! During the summer stop by the farmers market or take a sunset sail on one of the many boats offering them. There are also many opportunities to take a ferry to one of the surrounding islands for hiking or biking.

This cottage has been appointed with very comfortable accommodations in order to make you feel instantly at home. The open kitchen and dining area feature stainless steel appliances, local granite countertops, and a large farmhouse sink in order to make meal preparations quick and easy. A lobster pot, and supplies are included (Fresh off the boat lobsters are available at the marina across the street) for those brave enough to cook their own! Local antiques are scattered throughout the house to remind us of simpler times. This area is also open to the living room which features fantastic views of Southwest Harbor! The downstairs bedroom has a set of bunk beds, single on top and double on the bottom. This room is very bright with many windows, roomy closet, gaming system, TV, DVD, and best of all a great view of the harbor! The full sized bathroom is located downstairs and includes a full-sized washer and dryer so that you can keep those bathing suits and beach towels ready at a moments notice! All TV's have cable and DVD players, and WIFI.

The master bedroom is located upstairs with it's plush king-sized bed, loads of room, flat-screen TV with DVD, video library, and did I say? Fantastic View! The last bedroom features an antique double spindle bed with lots of coastal charm, TV with DVD, and ample closet space.

A crib, receptical plugs, baby toys, child gate, and a high chair are provided for those needing one, also a bathing seat and hand rail are available for those needing a bit of assisstance with accessibility.

Southwest Harbor is a quaint, pleasant coastal community that is only 15 minutes from Bar Harbor, a popular tourist destination. The closest airports are: Trenton(12miles) and Bangor International Airport which is only 55 miles away. Those interested in bringing along their boat, slips may be available upon request.

Why Christie Dysart chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

We just love this area of MDI! There's hiking, biking, boating, exploring just minutes away. Southwest Harbor is just a little bit quieter than BarHarbor and the kids can walk or bike anywhere. There's restaurants and a great ice cream shop just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

What makes this house unique

This house has fantastic views of Southwest Harbor from almost every room in the house. There's a great marina directly across the street where you can view amazing boats, and a fun restaurant that is across the street that has outdoor seating right on the shore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Will always come back to!!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best week ever! Waking up every morning to the view of the water was beautiful! The home touches that the owner put in this rental made us fell so much at home. The whole week we never used our car. We could walk to the restaurants in town, go hiking, and shopping. We will be back! Thank you so much!!!

Great week in Maine!

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for all of your thoughtful touches in making this a great vacation home. We have rented houses several times and yours has been one of the better homes that we've enjoyed! The Island has been a great experience--hiking, biking, kayaking, and good food. We made several meals here and your kichen and grill were great. Nice to have all we needed to feed the family. You also made the home open to kids of all ages. Our teenagers enjoyed their own entertainment center cownstairs while mom and dad had their own space upstairs. Thanks a bunch! The Boone's

WOW

  • 5 of 5

Sorry this review is a bit tardy...but as I was telling someone about our trip to Maine this past summer, pulling out my literature, I found myself reliving a wonderful vacation.

Pictures can't do this cottage justice...the view overlooking the harbor if truly picture perfect.

I stayed with 3 adults and 2 teenagers. The house was convenient for my 80 year old mother-in -law, her bedroom was on the first floor, along with the bathroom and well stocked kitchen. Part of why we choose this house was because of her age, I knew she'd be staying at the house while some of us hiked or kayaked. Needless to say she very much enjoyed sitting in the living room reading and overlooking the harbor.

Owner Christie was great to work with, answering questions, responding promply, providing maple syrup, pancake mix, water, coffee, other basics. We did a wee bit of cooking, kitchen was well stocked.

The main road is a little busy...part of the character hearing the lobster men heading out in the morning in their pickup trucks. There is a walking path to get into town...5 minutes to get to shops with everything from coffee/ice cream snacks, deli items, wine, etc.

Beal's lobster pound is a few miles away, a very short drive where you can order your lobster and sit outside on picnic tables to enjoy the best of Maine seafood and local beers!

We fit a lot into our week..hiking trails (some are a few minutes drive away that treated us to views overlooking Echo Lake)... a whale watch out of bar Harbor (20 minute drive)...Sea kayaking with Maine State Sea Kayak---seals, starfish, amazing...sunrise over Cadillac Mt ...a trip with Capt. Winston Shaw, carriage ride through Acadia, and view, views, views.

It's amazing to see how beauitful this world can be if we let nature alone! Go! Enjoy!

2nd time here ..even better

  • 5 of 5

This is the 2nd time at this lovely cottage. Christine was lovely to work with, she was very accomodating to us. We absolutely love the view and we brought binnoculars so we could see more. We ate breakfast at grumpies very good, we also went to bar harbor and we took some trips to local areas and even heard a moose on one of the trails. We absolutely love this little town there was a wine tasting at the local wine store in town. The owner was extremely helpful with letting us know things that were in the area. The house was charming as always you didn't have to bring hardly anything extra the owner provides so much and compared to other rentals this was a great benefit. What a perfect vacation

Amazing house with a wonderful host

  • 5 of 5

This was the first time we have ever rented a house and this was a great experience. The house was clean and immaculate and it had plenty of amenities. The house was decorated very nicely and everything down to the last detail was provided. The view of the harbor was gorgeous . we walked into town we really loved sipps and red sky. the town had a cute market and wine shop along with a bakery which surprisingly had wonderful pizza. for breakfast we walked across the street to grumpys. Such a cute little place with a nice view. The owner of the home christine of was great to work with and made our stay enjoyable.
