Load up on the free MDI shuttle that stops directly across the street! During the summer stop by the farmers market or take a sunset sail on one of the many boats offering them. There are also many opportunities to take a ferry to one of the surrounding islands for hiking or biking.
This cottage has been appointed with very comfortable accommodations in order to make you feel instantly at home. The open kitchen and dining area feature stainless steel appliances, local granite countertops, and a large farmhouse sink in order to make meal preparations quick and easy. A lobster pot, and supplies are included (Fresh off the boat lobsters are available at the marina across the street) for those brave enough to cook their own! Local antiques are scattered throughout the house to remind us of simpler times. This area is also open to the living room which features fantastic views of Southwest Harbor! All TV's have cable and DVD players, and WIFI.
The master bedroom is located upstairs with it's plush king-sized bed, loads of room, flat-screen TV with DVD, video library, and did I say? Fantastic View! The last bedroom features an antique double spindle bed with lots of coastal charm, TV with DVD, and ample closet space.

Southwest Harbor is a quaint, pleasant coastal community that is only 15 minutes from Bar Harbor, a popular tourist destination. The closest airports are: Trenton(12miles) and Bangor International Airport which is only 55 miles away. Those interested in bringing along their boat, slips may be available upon request.
We just love this area of MDI! There's hiking, biking, boating, exploring just minutes away. Southwest Harbor is just a little bit quieter than BarHarbor and the kids can walk or bike anywhere. There's restaurants and a great ice cream shop just a hop, skip, and a jump away.
This house has fantastic views of Southwest Harbor from almost every room in the house. There's a great marina directly across the street where you can view amazing boats, and a fun restaurant that is across the street that has outdoor seating right on the shore.
Thank you for allowing us to stay in this delightful cottage. It had everything we needed + Great! views! It was a perfect spot to launch our Acadia explorations.
This was our first trip to Maine to experience lobster, Arcadia Nation Park, and the coastal views. Our cabin was well equipped and Christie was a pleasure to communicate with. She left several hiking resources and booklets to help us enjoy the park. The cabin has great amenities, cookware, utensils, supplies, everything you need for a nice stay. We stayed 12 days. So much to see. The King Bed was comfortable. The multiple TV's, movies, books, etc were welcome and provided entertainment during down time.
Fantastic setup and my favorite place to stay when visiting Acadia. The accommodations were comfortable clean and all amenities were well thought out and complete. Really able to relax here after a day of hiking and biking
We had the best week ever! Waking up every morning to the view of the water was beautiful! The home touches that the owner put in this rental made us fell so much at home. The whole week we never used our car. We could walk to the restaurants in town, go hiking, and shopping. We will be back! Thank you so much!!!
We had a fabulous week here at Head of the Harbor Overlook! Your lovely cottage more than lived up to our expectations! It's in a great location and we found it very clean and comfortable. The views were great and the house amenities were very thoughtful. It really was a "home away from home"!
Thank you for all of your thoughtful touches in making this a great vacation home. We have rented houses several times and yours has been one of the better homes that we've enjoyed! The Island has been a great experience--hiking, biking, kayaking, and good food. We made several meals here and your kichen and grill were great. Nice to have all we needed to feed the family. You also made the home open to kids of all ages. Our teenagers enjoyed their own entertainment center cownstairs while mom and dad had their own space upstairs. Thanks a bunch! The Boone's
Sorry this review is a bit tardy...but as I was telling someone about our trip to Maine this past summer, pulling out my literature, I found myself reliving a wonderful vacation.
Pictures can't do this cottage justice...the view overlooking the harbor if truly picture perfect.
I stayed with 3 adults and 2 teenagers. The house was convenient for my 80 year old mother-in -law, her bedroom was on the first floor, along with the bathroom and well stocked kitchen. Part of why we choose this house was because of her age, I knew she'd be staying at the house while some of us hiked or kayaked. Needless to say she very much enjoyed sitting in the living room reading and overlooking the harbor.
Owner Christie was great to work with, answering questions, responding promply, providing maple syrup, pancake mix, water, coffee, other basics. We did a wee bit of cooking, kitchen was well stocked.
The main road is a little busy...part of the character hearing the lobster men heading out in the morning in their pickup trucks. There is a walking path to get into town...5 minutes to get to shops with everything from coffee/ice cream snacks, deli items, wine, etc.
Beal's lobster pound is a few miles away, a very short drive where you can order your lobster and sit outside on picnic tables to enjoy the best of Maine seafood and local beers!
We fit a lot into our week..hiking trails (some are a few minutes drive away that treated us to views overlooking Echo Lake)... a whale watch out of bar Harbor (20 minute drive)...Sea kayaking with Maine State Sea Kayak---seals, starfish, amazing...sunrise over Cadillac Mt ...a trip with Capt. Winston Shaw, carriage ride through Acadia, and view, views, views.
It's amazing to see how beauitful this world can be if we let nature alone! Go! Enjoy!
Marina slips are available to boat owners.
