The property is in a great centralized location to really explore what the Berkshires have to offer ... Best of all there are many more things not listed here or in any of the guides, but rather tucked away, in the nooks and crannies amidst the forest, stream and mountain, awaiting the discovery of your inner Frodo!
We all chipped in with the rebuilding of this house. We finished construction in the fall of 2009. Here are Dave and Steve drilling a well pipe access point. As you can see, we literally started from scratch. We also enjoy two other family homes on GreenWater, and we visit all summer long! And btw, we are always looking for people to wakeboard!
Steve Simmons purchased this house in 2007
We are an extended family that all fell in love with Becket and can especially appreciate the recreation that GreenWater Pond has to offer. Our family all went in and bought a rundown old cabin and decided to rebuild it. It was really a no brainer. With gorgeous Mountain and Lake views, private access to the lake across the street, and close proximity to year round activities, it really is a great place to bring the whole family.
This is where we go to decompress from the craziness of Boston. Whether it is soaking up sun, wakeboarding, hitting the shoppes, hitting the slopes, catching a James Taylor concert in the summer (always around the 4th by the way), catching some Hollywood folk starring in summer stock, or grabbing hot cider at the Red Lion Inn after a day of hiking the Trail in the fall ... One cannot help just feel the stress of life just melt away.
We stayed at Starry Night again last week. The house is clean and comfortable with awesome views of Greenwater Pond from the spacious decks. The big, full kitchen is very useful too. The owners are very accessible if you should need them. We are big fans and highly recommend Starry Night!!!!!
We had a wonderful New Years at Starry Night. The kitchen is the best equipped one I have cooked in of all the houses I have rented over the past 15+ years. The house is conveniently located near the interstate, the outlet mall, and historic Berkshire towns (Lee, Lenox, Stockbridge). The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the open living/dining/kitchen space made it easy to feel connected with everyone. It wasn't even a huge problem not having wifi. We enjoyed walking around the backyard in the snow and exploring the nearby towns.
We traveled from Florida with our toddler son and stayed at Starry Night to celebrate Christmas with our family from Vermont. From the very start of our communication with the owner we experienced exceptional service and the owners always went above and beyond with their hospitality. We were greeted with a lit Christmas tree and Christmas music on when we entered the house. We even received a phone call on Christmas Eve to check on us and to make sure we were ok with icy/ snowy weather. Our family had a delightful visit in a home that felt like a home away from home. Our two year old son experienced snow for the first time in the woods in the backyard and thoroughly enjoyed it! We loved singing karaoke and the fireplace and piano were a delight! Thank you for helping to make our northern Christmas so memorable!
Nice large house ! Good central location.
We really wanted to love the place, but unfortunately it was very dirty, and infested with ants.
After we arrived, we noticed the couches were not vacuumed and were thoroughly stained, the fridge was not clean and there were ants everywhere in the kitchen. When we asked the owner to take a look, he responded very quickly, but really did nothing. We heard a bunch of excuses - there should be new sofas, there was no time to fumigate etc. etc.
A day later, I tried to find the source of the ants, and when I moved the toaster oven I found an empty box of Oreo cookies. After cleaning the counter top with Lysol, the number of ants decreased significantly. We couldn't afford fumigating while we were in the house, since we came with two babies.
I really wish the owner would start hiring an actual cleaning service (we would have happily paid a fee for that), and keep in mind that fumigation is crucial - even if it means a few days without guests.
We stayed for 5 nights, my husband and I, 3 of our daughters, 4 of their friends. We spent most of the time away from the house. We didn't realize we were going to be transporting kayaks back and forth across a busy road. We did however enjoy the paddle boat. Plenty of room, and games to play. No wifi, luckily we had a good cell connection. My suggestions is make sure you know what you plan to do, if you plan to just hang at the house, or if you want to travel for entertainment.
The Berkshires offer a wonderful mix of history, culture and recreation. There is an abundance of all these qualities here in the hills of western Massachusetts. Whether you're looking to feed your mind or your body, this is the perfect vacation destination.
