About Steve Simmons

We all chipped in with the rebuilding of this house. We finished construction in the fall of 2009. Here are Dave and Steve drilling a well pipe access point. As you can see, we literally started from scratch. We also enjoy two other family homes on GreenWater, and we visit all summer long! And btw, we are always looking for people to wakeboard!

Steve Simmons purchased this house in 2007

Why Steve Simmons chose Berkshires

We are an extended family that all fell in love with Becket and can especially appreciate the recreation that GreenWater Pond has to offer. Our family all went in and bought a rundown old cabin and decided to rebuild it. It was really a no brainer. With gorgeous Mountain and Lake views, private access to the lake across the street, and close proximity to year round activities, it really is a great place to bring the whole family.

What makes this house unique

This is where we go to decompress from the craziness of Boston. Whether it is soaking up sun, wakeboarding, hitting the shoppes, hitting the slopes, catching a James Taylor concert in the summer (always around the 4th by the way), catching some Hollywood folk starring in summer stock, or grabbing hot cider at the Red Lion Inn after a day of hiking the Trail in the fall ... One cannot help just feel the stress of life just melt away.

10 of us had an absolutely perfect weekend at Starry Night. The house is great-- lots of space, everything you need, and we appreciated the labeled light switches!

Thank you THANK YOU, Steve & Dave for a great get-away!

A Merry Christmas...!

  • 5 of 5

We came to the Berkshires from Southern CA and Australia hoping for a white Christmas...and although the weather did not co-operate (one of the warmest 24/25 December on record) it did not keep us from having a Merry and Bright time! There are loads of places to enjoy and explore close to Starry Night that kept us busy and entertained - we also loved the house - cooking and eating in a most nights...we had no trouble finding what we needed close to hand. And to top it off Steve had provided a table top Christmas Tree which we made good use of. We are grateful for the lovely memories we will carry of our stay at Starry Night!

Fantastic end of summer getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was my second trip to Starry Nite. The first was a whirlwind birthday celebration weekend in September of 2014. The house was so wonderful that I wanted to come back this year for more than a couple of days. It was a great decision! Our week at Starry Nite was exactly what was needed for our stressed out family. My mom finally got to spend some quality time away from it all and the Berkshires was a fantastic setting to do so. She got to take morning dance classes at the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival five minutes away and we went to an incredible Martha Graham company performance later on in the week. Starry Night is just south of October Mountain State Forest, which was perfect for hiking and enjoying the summer weather. The lake, paddle boat, and kayaks kept us entertained for hours and the house itself is spacious, yet very cozy. Everything you could need (groceries, restaurants, outlet shopping, etc.) is available in nearby Lee, so we did not need to drive very much. After our two summer trips to Starry Nite, we cannot wait to visit during another season!

suited us perfectly

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Starry Nite to attend a friend's wedding. There were 4 couples, and this house suited us perfectly. Comfortable, clean, and conviently located. We loved hiking in near-by October Mountain State Park and Monument Mountain. Access to the water was great. Communication with the owner was super easy!

Not ideal for hot summer days

  • 4 of 5

The house itself is just as described - clean, comfortable, well-equipped, nicely furnished, etc. But if you arrive on a hot summer night, as we did, it is very hard to enjoy the beautiful house or views with the near constant rush of traffic (average of 5 cars and one tractor-trailer per minute) on US Route 20 only 75 feet away. Out on the deck, we found it nearly impossible to hold conversations and inside was not much better with the windows open. (Only the bedrooms are air-conditioned.) And when the traffic on Route 20 eventually slowed a bit, there was the constant drone of traffic from the Mass Pike just across the small pond. Every member of our family likes to sleep with an open window but that was nearly impossible here, even in the back bedrooms.

This is not meant as a complaint, as I probably could have guessed at this issue based on the location; rather, it is just information for other summer travelers who feel the same way about having to constantly hear traffic while they are trying to relax. Our solution was to spend less time in the house than we might have otherwise and, while in the house, to enjoy the karaoke and drown out the traffic. And good earplugs at night.

Despite the noise, we were able to have a good time, which says a lot for the good qualities of the house.

Owner's Response: Hi James, Thank you for your honest review. We do our best to ensure that the house is spotless, fully equipped and so on. The one thing we cannot control is the traffic unfortunately. August can get busy up there. While Starry night is on the main road, 1 tractor trailer per minute is far from typical. And for that, you have our apologies and we will own that. I do hope you were able to enjoy the lake swimming and kayaking and the other things Starry Nite had to offer and it was not a total wash for you and your family. I am open to any and all suggestions you may have to ensure that all of our guests are happy and will leave this review so all can understand it can get busy. Regards, Steve
