About Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners

This photo is of the owners, hiking in one of hundreds of slot canyons in Escalante-Grand Staircase National Monument, east of Bryce Canyon. We love this area and will never tire of exploring it. And there is no end to the wonders available to explore!

Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Jan or Jim McDaniel, owners chose Utah

We have visited and enjoyed many of our nation's parks and wilderness areas. We think Southern Utah is one of the most beautiful areas in the country, with an array of what are some of the most beautiful and accessible national parks and monuments. We have been coming to the area for several years, drawn by the beauty and wide variety of outdoor activities. We finally decided we needed to own a little piece of this incredible place. With breathtaking natural wonders any way you drive, all within close proximity, you can't beat this location. If you love nature and experiencing the outdoors, as we do, you will be amazed at this part of southern Utah, and you will love our cozy and friendly cabin in Duck Creek.

What makes this cabin unique

There is something magical about this cabin. So many of our guests - and we ourselves - have said that the minute you walk into our cabin, you can feel it. Instant relaxation comes over you! And a feeling of warmth and coziness and welcome. Come experience it yourselves!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Well, here we are, back here again 10 months later! And our stay here was just as wonderful as the first time! The second you open the door - it is almost as if this magical cabin opens its heart and says "Welcome home"! As I stated last year - and felt again this year - it is like walking into another time and place. It takes your breath away, and with it all the stress and challenges of everyday life. It renews the body, spirit, and soul.

Thanks so very much, Jan and Jim, for again sharing your beautiful, peaceful, relaxing cabin with us. Thank you for all the beauty you have provided, the hard work, and TLC you put into this place! Cedar Hollow Cabin will always have a special place in our hearts. There is much light, love, and positive energy here!

Again, with special thoughts and appreciate, love,

So sad we had to leave!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to visit Bryce and Zion, I really cannot imagine there is a better place to stay. With so many great reviews, it's tempting to not bother with writing another but Jim and Jan are deserving of every kind word and all should know. We had everything we needed and stayed in complete comfort in a beautifully decorated, super cozy cabin. If only we could have packed the couches and taken them home with us. Jan is very responsive and helpful in trip planning and shares a wealth of wonderful recommendations. We enjoyed many of them. The cabin's guide books also proved very useful, giving us confidence to find and try a less trodden trail not originally in our plans. I long to return to the beautiful state of Utah. If I am ever afforded the chance, I'd certainly stay here again. We visited so many amazing places (Cedar Breaks, Bryce, Zion, North Rim, Kodochrome, Red Canyon, Paria Canyon, St. George) and so enjoyed having one place to call home. Many thanks for a memorable family vacation.

I could live there...

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place between Zion and Bryce, and this was a great location! We stayed 8 nights and could of stayed 8 more. We The cabins has a great homey feel to it and the owners have thought of every detail in both their instructions prior to arrival and everything being labeled at the cabin. AWD vehicle is needed and their "winter" goes at least through April, we got snow flurries and some accumulation while there.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great long weekend staying at the cabin. It was close enough to everything so you didn't feel isolated, but far enough out to give you that "woodsy" feel. The cabin was well cared for, clean and ready for us when we arrived. There was still plenty of snow that the kids were able to play in. A 4x4 is definitely recommended if the roads are snow covered or muddy. Jan was great to deal with and she provided a tremendous amount of information about the surrounding areas and things to do. We will definitely stay there again!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the really nice review. I am so glad your family had a great time, and that you got to enjoy our excellent snow this winter. Yes, we've had a lot more than usual, so the snow plows have been working overtime! We hope you will make it back soon - we'd love to have you any time!

Your very own log cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful cabin that has everything you could possibly need. Jan provides heaps of information about local activities and restaurants. Cabin has all the movie channels for snuggling up with a glass of wine by the fire after a long day communing with nature. We chose the cabin because it was about equidistant to Zion and Bryce, but just a warning, it's still at least an hour to either one, so we ended up doing lots of driving. Would definitely stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thanks, Melanie for the great comments on your stay. I'm really glad that you and your friends enjoyed the cabin, and your time in the area. We'd welcome you back any time! BTW, the distance/times I quote to people are to the closest entrance to either park, so actual times to the far sides or to specific areas are a bit longer. Yes, things are pretty far apart out here in the "wild west". ;-) But you're right, we are centrally located, so that's a plus. Thanks again, and I hope you will be back in the future! Jan

Wow! This cabin was perfect! We fell in love with the place the moment we walked in. It was cozy, and has nice decor to really experience a true cabin feel! Our son had a blast on the ATV trails and being surrounded by nature was exactly what we needed! Our pups had fun too checking out all the new smells and wildlife. Thank you so much for the experience! We will be back!!

Cozy Comfortable Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful 5 day getaway for us. The cabin is so comfortable, nice ambiance, many personal touches. I especially appreciated the labels on the light switches and helpful notes. My husband and I along with our little poodle enjoyed the fenced and gated deck. The weather was lovely. We would have liked to have stayed another few days but alas, time to go home. We hope to return next year.
