Enchanting Hilltop House with spectacular view of Portofino. Located in Zoagli, Rapallo-Portofino area, Liguria, Italy (30 minutes from Genova; 45 minutes from Cinque Terre)

Perched on a terraced hillside with olive trees, 'Il Frantoio di Piero' is a two-story property overlooking the Bay of Tigullio and Portofino, on the world famous Italian Riviera. The combination of quiet country life with the proximity to the seacoast makes this place unique.

Extras 1: You wake up to the lovely sound of birds, have full access to an extensive landscaped garden with bougainvillaea, roses, herbs, cherry, apricot, peach, prune trees and grapes, then go for a swim or a daily excursion, and relax at dinner on a panoramic terrace, enchanted by the view of boats sailing through the beautiful Portofino Bay at sunset.

Extras 2: The large terrace, equipped with deck chairs and shadowed by a large umbrella, is also used for sunbathing, reading, and relaxing. The character of this property is part of Portofino’s world heritage, where clusters of houses have kept their original architecture and colors, and the hill presents steep terraces of cultivated land.

The house is self-catering and will be cleaned on your arrival and departure. Any additional cleaning may be arranged through our agent. The house is built on a hillside, therefore there are stairs up to the house. For additional fee, we can arrange assistance to carry luggage to the house. The house is child friendly and all the fences on the terrace are up to code. We have additional gates for younger children. We always recommend that young children are always supervised while outdoors.

Ligurian paradise

  • 4 of 5

This Ligurian family retreat is fully and accurately represented by the beautiful photos. Add to that the ambiance of rural living with pealing church bells, crowing rooster, and friendly neighborhood grocers. You truly feel a guest of the family that has so warmly made this their home-away-from-home. There's no slick, commercial hotel feeling here, just serenity and caring landlords. Be ready for narrow two-way country roads and rugged steps--and an unforgettable experience in one of our planet's most beautiful locations.

Beautiful views but needs updating

  • 4 of 5

As reported, the view from the terrace was fabulous, which we enjoyed very much. The lists of restaurants and maps were very helpful and Zoagli was charming (although the walk down to the piazza was twice as long as noted!). Like other reviewers we found the apartment to be adequate. However when we arrived late Saturday night due to a missed flight, there was no hot water until Monday because the neighbor who was the contact for difficulties was away and we had to wait for the English-speaking woman at the local agency to explain the problem. (The neighbor did return Tuesday and lent us an iron -- we could not find one nor an ironing board as promised in the description.) Also the place was not as clean as we would have liked (i.e., debris around the dishwasher and washing machine, grungy light switches and dusty.) We e-mailed the owners several times for instructions prior to our visit, which we found in the apartment. Had they e-mailed the instructions ahead of our arrival it would have much appreciated -- especially where the light switch was located for the stairs leading to the apartment as we had to carry up our luggage 23 steps in the dark.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments-- We appreciated your descriptions and praise regarding the spectacular views-- but also your comments about the condition of house which we have solved. The hot water issues and installed a new shower and water line in the bathroom. For late night arrivals, we have installed a new lighting system with easy access from the parking lot. Also noted is the distance to walking to the village of Zoagli, from our property In normal walking conditions it should take about 25-30 minutes-- al downhill, walking back is takes longer as it is it is uphill-- Finally the kitchen area has been totally cleaned-- and our Agent in Italy has taken care to do a full inspection before our guest arrive. Thanks again for your comments.

Belle vue

  • 4 of 5

La maison est idéalement située pour visiter Gènes, Camogli et les 5 Terres. La propriétaire avait gentiment chauffé la maison à l'avance. La maison est grande et fonctionnelle et la vue très belle. Nous avons apprécié la place de parking.

Nice apartment, great view - a little boring city

  • 4 of 5

We had 3 days here in July. It´s a okay apartment, on the hils about 20min walk from Zoagli and the sea. The view of Portofino and the Mediterranean from the patio is nice.

The apartment is located in a "canyon", so the sunset is maybe a little to early. As the apartment is not air conditioned, it may be an advantage - it gets cooler in the evening.

The apartment is well equipped with appliances and linens and is very comfortable. It does give you a basement feeling, but its okay.

We used the car, but the train station is minutes away at the foot of the hill and gives access to all of the region.

There is a nice local grocery store on the top, 10 minutes walk

The wifi is good!

Zoagli is not one of the finest towns in the area - and if you like eating in restaurants and walk in cosy towns - Zoagli, and maybe this apartment isn't the best choice. I liked the apartment, but will not travle bay to Zoagli and the are around it. PS. We found one nice restaurant - Il Tagliere Toscano. It has moved to a new location, and the food is god and the view is one of the best - try it :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

I thought that I would send you a note to let you know that we love the house!! The view is amazing and we love how the hills sound in the evening. The sound from every household travels around - it is so great. We also love the regular church bells. We have figured our way around the area without too much trouble. People are friendly. We do not have a car but the walking is good for us and the bus to Chiavari from up the hill in San Pietro works well. We took a taxi from Chiavari our first day to get here and we were glad we did as I am not too sure we would have found a taxi in Zoagli on a Sunday afternoon.

We are taking care of the place for you. Obviously this place is made with love. Thank-you for this incredible opportunity.

Is there anything we can do for you while we are here?
