Enchanting Hilltop House with spectacular view of Portofino. Located in Zoagli, Rapallo-Portofino area, Liguria, Italy (30 minutes from Genova; 45 minutes from Cinque Terre)
Perched on a terraced hillside with olive trees, 'Il Frantoio di Piero' is a two-story property overlooking the Bay of Tigullio and Portofino, on the world famous Italian Riviera. The combination of quiet country life with the proximity to the seacoast makes this place unique.
Extras 1: You wake up to the lovely sound of birds, have full access to an extensive landscaped garden with bougainvillaea, roses, herbs, cherry, apricot, peach, prune trees and grapes, then go for a swim or a daily excursion, and relax at dinner on a panoramic terrace, enchanted by the view of boats sailing through the beautiful Portofino Bay at sunset.
Extras 2: The large terrace, equipped with deck chairs and shadowed by a large umbrella, is also used for sunbathing, reading, and relaxing. The character of this property is part of Portofino’s world heritage, where clusters of houses have kept their original architecture and colors, and the hill presents steep terraces of cultivated land.
Extras 3: Inside the house, the salon and dining areas, and master bedroom are painted to reflect the colors from the garden: sage and blood-colored orange, pistachio and sunflower yellow. The floors are all terracotta tiled and raw linen curtains frame the views of the sea and garden and bring shade.
I thought that I would send you a note to let you know that we love the house!! The view is amazing and we love how the hills sound in the evening. The sound from every household travels around - it is so great. We also love the regular church bells. We have figured our way around the area without too much trouble. People are friendly. We do not have a car but the walking is good for us and the bus to Chiavari from up the hill in San Pietro works well. We took a taxi from Chiavari our first day to get here and we were glad we did as I am not too sure we would have found a taxi in Zoagli on a Sunday afternoon.
We are taking care of the place for you. Obviously this place is made with love. Thank-you for this incredible opportunity.
Is there anything we can do for you while we are here?
This Ligurian family retreat is fully and accurately represented by the beautiful photos. Add to that the ambiance of rural living with pealing church bells, crowing rooster, and friendly neighborhood grocers. You truly feel a guest of the family that has so warmly made this their home-away-from-home. There's no slick, commercial hotel feeling here, just serenity and caring landlords. Be ready for narrow two-way country roads and rugged steps--and an unforgettable experience in one of our planet's most beautiful locations.
The charming villa was very clean , fantastic kitchen , great bathroom , good location , amazing views, nice neighbors . Highly recommend it . Im looking forward to staying there again. Don't miss the neighborhood grocery store up the hill on the left.
As reported, the view from the terrace was fabulous, which we enjoyed very much. The lists of restaurants and maps were very helpful and Zoagli was charming (although the walk down to the piazza was twice as long as noted!). Like other reviewers we found the apartment to be adequate. However when we arrived late Saturday night due to a missed flight, there was no hot water until Monday because the neighbor who was the contact for difficulties was away and we had to wait for the English-speaking woman at the local agency to explain the problem. (The neighbor did return Tuesday and lent us an iron -- we could not find one nor an ironing board as promised in the description.) Also the place was not as clean as we would have liked (i.e., debris around the dishwasher and washing machine, grungy light switches and dusty.) We e-mailed the owners several times for instructions prior to our visit, which we found in the apartment. Had they e-mailed the instructions ahead of our arrival it would have much appreciated -- especially where the light switch was located for the stairs leading to the apartment as we had to carry up our luggage 23 steps in the dark.
