About Larry and Sheila Tinker

Owner: Sheila Poland Tinker. I grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High in 1977. Married Larry Tinker in 1993, moved to Yorktown and had one beautiful daughter, Brittany.

Why Larry and Sheila Tinker chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

This cabin has been in my family since 1941. It was being built by my grandfather and his 3 sons(my father was 7 at the time) when Pearl Harbor was being bombed. So it has a lot of memories in it for my family. My husband and I bought it from my 2 uncles in 1991 and now share 2/3 ownership with my dad. We have refurbished it and updated it without taking away the beautiful memories of the history. You can still see the handprints on the A- frame wood ceiling from where they had to place each piece.

This cabin means a lot to me and my family and we look forward to sharing it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful stone fireplace with electric fire logs for ambience. French doors that open to the screened porch, where you can see the most beautiful sunsets on the York River. Can fish right from the property without getting a fishing license. (ask for details on confirmation number to do that). Very peaceful and quiet but still close to alot of fun things to do.

We will consider pets, but need to know full details beforehand. Have had trouble in the past and are now very cautious about allowing them, but understand how important they are to your family. We have 2 Yorkies of our own and love being able to take them with us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway that was quiet, yet still had nearby activities. This place was perfect!! We spent part of each day exploring the area, but returned in the afternoon to enjoy the beach here, and spend time on the porch watching boats and the birds. Caught a few fish too!!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

And the Beautiful Sunsets! WOW!!

The perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great cabin for our family of four. The kids loved the beach and watching the wildlife. Coffee on the porch was wonderful every morning and I captured so many great sunset pictures in the evening. I've stayed waterfront in a wooded area before and I know what insects are like there, but there were no creepy crawlers in the house at all. That's a selling point to me. Outside of the house, we saw dolphins, hawks, an eagle, what my husband thought was a mink, groundhog, rabbit, crabs... You can hear colonial music at night, must be from Williamsburg or Yorktown and see the tall ship sail by. It felt like stepping back in time. My family made great memories.

I highly recommend this rental and hope to go back one day. My husband kept saying how perfect it was. He didn't even want to sightsee because he felt it was wasting time away from the cabin. He called it the best vacation in years, maybe ever.

As for the area, there's so much to do! We only made it through a portion of the wonderful museums and restaurants we had on our list. Fun things for the kids included the Yankee Candle Village, where they made their own candles, Historic Jamestowne and the Colonial Williamsburg Ghost Walk. A gem was the Virginia Living Museum, which is a combination of aquarium, zoo and hiking boardwalk. A very cool place.

The owners are lovely people, the house is well stocked and everything was perfect. Do not hesitate to book this cabin for your vacation!

Cozy cabin on the river with amazing views!

  • 5 of 5

Great little cabin with everything you need to hang out, site see, or hit the beaches. Perfect "home base" to start each morning and end each day. We loved having coffee on the patio and dinner on the deck. We loved the wildlife (hawks, turins, dolphins) and the ships going by. The bed is comfy, the shower strong and hot, the kitchen stocked to let you cook.

And the fact that we were able to bring our fur-kid along was the cherry on top.

Thank you Sheila and Larry!!

Sunsets did not disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

Spent two beautiful nights at the cabin this week. Turned off the air conditioner and let the breezes flow through! Great getaway. Everything we needed was provided. Grocery store just a short drive. We loved Scooter's BBQ as carry out.

Cabin is rustic, but well-maintained. Our Jack Russell (a city dog) LOVED the adventure--he is still recovering and dreaming about the squirrels, the deer, the river, and the sand crabs!
