About Larry and Sheila Tinker

Owner: Sheila Poland Tinker. I grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High in 1977. Married Larry Tinker in 1993, moved to Yorktown and had one beautiful daughter, Brittany.

Why Larry and Sheila Tinker chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

This cabin has been in my family since 1941. It was being built by my grandfather and his 3 sons(my father was 7 at the time) when Pearl Harbor was being bombed. So it has a lot of memories in it for my family. My husband and I bought it from my 2 uncles in 1991 and now share 2/3 ownership with my dad. We have refurbished it and updated it without taking away the beautiful memories of the history. You can still see the handprints on the A- frame wood ceiling from where they had to place each piece.

This cabin means a lot to me and my family and we look forward to sharing it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful stone fireplace with electric fire logs for ambience. French doors that open to the screened porch, where you can see the most beautiful sunsets on the York River. Can fish right from the property without getting a fishing license. (ask for details on confirmation number to do that). Very peaceful and quiet but still close to alot of fun things to do.

We will consider pets, but need to know full details beforehand. Have had trouble in the past and are now very cautious about allowing them, but understand how important they are to your family. We have 2 Yorkies of our own and love being able to take them with us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway that was quiet, yet still had nearby activities. This place was perfect!! We spent part of each day exploring the area, but returned in the afternoon to enjoy the beach here, and spend time on the porch watching boats and the birds. Caught a few fish too!!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

Beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our 41st anniversary at Sheila and Larry's beautiful cottage. They were friendly and easy to deal with. We enjoyed sitting on the beach by the water and just taking in the view from the screen porch and deck. We had everything we needed in the cottage and because there was no scheduled check in immediately following our stay we were given a late check out. We were able to truly relax and I think and hope that we will return.

Amazing View!

  • 5 of 5

Wow...what an incredible view. Despite the weather we had, we were able to enjoy the screened porch most of the time. It was very relaxing. Especially drinking our coffee in the morning while it was raining. The cabin is very comfortable and clean. We felt right at home. Thank you for letting us bring our dogs. They enjoyed their mini vacation too. Would love to stay again in warmer weather.

charming cabin on the river

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay. The cabin had everything we needed. Our dog loved the beach, and we enjoyed exploring Yorktown and Williamsburg. Very convenient to both. Would recommend to friends.

Not bad

  • 3 of 5

•This cabin could be a GEM. The location of this cabin is wonderful. It's secluded on a cul de sac with a lovely view of the York River. It's situation is convenient to Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown - 1 hour from Virginia Beach and 2 hours from Kittyhawk.

•While at the cabin we enjoyed the screened in porch. The cabin has all the necessities for a temporary home away from home. No washer and dryer, --that's not a big deal.

•The cabin would be perfect if it was given a thorough cleaning and a few interior repairs.

We appreciate the opportunity stay there and to give as fair and honest a review as possible.
