About Larry and Sheila Tinker

Owner: Sheila Poland Tinker. I grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High in 1977. Married Larry Tinker in 1993, moved to Yorktown and had one beautiful daughter, Brittany.

Why Larry and Sheila Tinker chose Chesapeake Bay - Northern Neck

This cabin has been in my family since 1941. It was being built by my grandfather and his 3 sons(my father was 7 at the time) when Pearl Harbor was being bombed. So it has a lot of memories in it for my family. My husband and I bought it from my 2 uncles in 1991 and now share 2/3 ownership with my dad. We have refurbished it and updated it without taking away the beautiful memories of the history. You can still see the handprints on the A- frame wood ceiling from where they had to place each piece.

This cabin means a lot to me and my family and we look forward to sharing it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful stone fireplace with electric fire logs for ambience. French doors that open to the screened porch, where you can see the most beautiful sunsets on the York River. Can fish right from the property without getting a fishing license. (ask for details on confirmation number to do that). Very peaceful and quiet but still close to alot of fun things to do.

We will consider pets, but need to know full details beforehand. Have had trouble in the past and are now very cautious about allowing them, but understand how important they are to your family. We have 2 Yorkies of our own and love being able to take them with us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway that was quiet, yet still had nearby activities. This place was perfect!! We spent part of each day exploring the area, but returned in the afternoon to enjoy the beach here, and spend time on the porch watching boats and the birds. Caught a few fish too!!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

COZY GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5

We only stayed 2 nights but it felt like a wonderful getaway. The sunsets we got to see was beautiful over the river. The home was very clean and had everything we needed to feel like home away from home. Our dog enjoyed being off her leash for once and running around with us in the yard. The sounds of the waves lapping was so relaxing. The owners were so nice and communicated well. We can't wait to come again when the weather is a little warmer so we can sit outside longer!

Awesome owners

  • 5 of 5

I'm writing this not as someone that has stayed at this location but as someone that HAD reservations but had to cancel due to work issues. The owners were simply the best!!! They were will to work around any problem we had but were there for us from the start. I will be booking a future trip to their home. I've stayed at other VRBO homes and these owners again...are simply the BEST!!

Simple yet Cozy

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to one of our favorite places for relaxation. The property is located at the end of a street so no traffic noise. Neighbors are private and the only thing you see from the back of the property are stunning views of the river and the sunsets....WOW!! The property is stocked with all your basic needs. The home is simple and yet cozy. We brought our dog along this time and she enjoyed running the beaches along the rivers edge. Great time and look forward to going back with some friends.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY!

  • 5 of 5

The owners are great to work with and the cabin is just idylic! The views are incredible so much that you just want to sit on their deck all day to soak it all in! Our dogs had a blast retrieving balls in the York River and we had a blast sitting on the private beach watching the boats go by and the wildlife. If you want a place to unwind that is centrally located this is the place to stay! We have rented cabins in the mountains & the beach over the years, but this tops our list to stay! We are definitely going back, but we plan on staying much longer next time! This place is a hidden gem!

Couldn't be happier! !!!

  • 5 of 5

Our last night in this wonderful space. We've had a delightful week. The sunsets are absolutely gorgeous. We went into Jamestown and Williamsburg and enjoyed the rise along Colonial Parkway. The cabin was perfect for us, and we felt very well cared for. If you're coming to this beautiful area, you'll be very happy here.

BEST TRIP IN YEARS!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Best trip in years!!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

When walking up along the side of this cottage, we stopped in our tracks as we gasped at the sight in front of us! The sun was setting and the view instantly relieved all stresses from our travels. Sheila is a wonderful host and quick to communicate. She met us there and went over some things and included the history of this family owned cottage. We had every intention of going to Williamsburg one day, but instead chose to enjoy the beauty that was around us there at the cottage. The various birds, including the bald eagle feeding, were awesome to watch. Watching the dolphins, yes I said DOLPHINS, frolic straight ahead of us in the brackish waters was such an unexpected joy. This cottage is within minutes to the Colonial Parkway and has easy access from a light at 17. Right across the river is Yorktowne. The cottage was well stocked. The king size bed was super comfy and the extra blankets smelled so clean. We opened the French doors to the screened in porch and let the sounds pour in. Words truly cannot express the beauty that abounds here. Highly recommend this cottage for those who are looking to melt into nature. Already planning 3 more trips back! ;-)
