About Larry and Sheila Tinker

Owner: Sheila Poland Tinker. I grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High in 1977. Married Larry Tinker in 1993, moved to Yorktown and had one beautiful daughter, Brittany.

Why Larry and Sheila Tinker chose Gloucester Point

This cabin has been in my family since 1941. It was being built by my grandfather and his 3 sons(my father was 7 at the time) when Pearl Harbor was being bombed. So it has a lot of memories in it for my family. My husband and I bought it from my 2 uncles in 1991 and now share 2/3 ownership with my dad. We have refurbished it and updated it without taking away the beautiful memories of the history. You can still see the handprints on the A- frame wood ceiling from where they had to place each piece.

This cabin means a lot to me and my family and we look forward to sharing it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

Beautiful stone fireplace with electric fire logs for ambience. French doors that open to the screened porch, where you can see the most beautiful sunsets on the York River. Can fish right from the property without getting a fishing license. (ask for details on confirmation number to do that). Very peaceful and quiet but still close to alot of fun things to do.

We will consider pets, but need to know full details beforehand. Have had trouble in the past and are now very cautious about allowing them, but understand how important they are to your family. We have 2 Yorkies of our own and love being able to take them with us.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We were looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway that was quiet, yet still had nearby activities. This place was perfect!! We spent part of each day exploring the area, but returned in the afternoon to enjoy the beach here, and spend time on the porch watching boats and the birds. Caught a few fish too!!

Thank you for a lovely stay.

And the Beautiful Sunsets! WOW!!

Just what the Doctor ordered. . .had we consulted a Doctor!

We have never enjoyed a 4 day jaunt more! Everything was as presented in the description. Didn't have a chance to meet Sheila but Larry was a great host as he showed us the ins and outs of the cabin. We had previously visited Wmsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and Va Beach so we stayed pretty close to home the entire time. Saw dolphins, eagles, herons and ospreys while sitting on the screen porch. Caught our limit of red drum within the first hour casting right from the shore using light tackle and bloodwoms. The cabin was exceptionally clean and well supplied with the daily necessities. Our newly adopted rescue pup made himself at home right away and enjoyed chasing the sand crabs on the shore. We grilled out almost daily and enjoyed eating on the deck looking out on the spectacular sunsets. Looking forward to a return visit in the Spring.

Christmas in the Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Sheila and Larry, as usual we enjoyed the cabin all dressed in Christmas decor! Although the weather was not cooperative, we loved relaxing and enjoying the beautiful sunsets, all cozy with our two Yorkies. It was so great seeing y’all and friends again. Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin on the river!

Third time was a charm!

Love this place! Short drive from our home in RVA but far enough to feel like a real vacation. Cross the bridge and you are in Yorktown and a quick 30min drive and you are In Williamsburg.

Relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time exploring Jamestowne Settlement and the American Revolution Museum. The Cozy Cabin was a great location for us to use as a base during our short visit to the area. The Tinkers were wonderful to work with in booking our stay in their charming cabin. The veiws were fantastic. However, we were never there to catch a sunset. Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your Cozy Cabin!

Sweet Getaway October 22 thur 25

  • 4 of 5

We love our short getaway to this cozy cabin. The weather was perfect and the scenery from the sun porch was amazing. We did get to see the eagle and a owl that stay on the rail down below where we parked our car for a very long time. We are looking forward to another visit. The cabin reminded me of my childhood home. Thank you Larry and Sheila.
