Owner: Sheila Poland Tinker. I grew up in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High in 1977. Married Larry Tinker in 1993, moved to Yorktown and had one beautiful daughter, Brittany.
This cabin has been in my family since 1941. It was being built by my grandfather and his 3 sons(my father was 7 at the time) when Pearl Harbor was being bombed. So it has a lot of memories in it for my family. My husband and I bought it from my 2 uncles in 1991 and now share 2/3 ownership with my dad. We have refurbished it and updated it without taking away the beautiful memories of the history. You can still see the handprints on the A- frame wood ceiling from where they had to place each piece.
This cabin means a lot to me and my family and we look forward to sharing it with you!
Beautiful stone fireplace with electric fire logs for ambience. French doors that open to the screened porch, where you can see the most beautiful sunsets on the York River. Can fish right from the property without getting a fishing license. (ask for details on confirmation number to do that). Very peaceful and quiet but still close to alot of fun things to do.
We will consider pets, but need to know full details beforehand. Have had trouble in the past and are now very cautious about allowing them, but understand how important they are to your family. We have 2 Yorkies of our own and love being able to take them with us.
We were looking for a relaxing waterfront getaway that was quiet, yet still had nearby activities. This place was perfect!! We spent part of each day exploring the area, but returned in the afternoon to enjoy the beach here, and spend time on the porch watching boats and the birds. Caught a few fish too!!
Thank you for a lovely stay.
The Cozy Cabin was absolutely perfect for a long getaway weekend. We wished we could have stayed longer. Sheila and Larry were fantastic. Communications were prompt and friendly. We loved their recommendation for Scoot's BBQ and the Yorktown Pub. The view was spectacular morning, noon and night but the sunsets beyond description. We particularly enjoyed the screened porch and the deck. The cabin had everything we needed and was comfy and cozy. Sheila and Larry have added personal touches that make it feel like home away from home rather than a rental. It was super convenient to be able to just walk down and enjoy the beach. We observed a variety of boats, ships and wildlife and caught a few fish each evening.
Our son, daughter-in-law and grandsons came for the day on Saturday to celebrate Father's Day. We had a fantastic day making memories!
We look forward to a return visit and hope to be "repeaters!" .
I pulled up to the sound of bullfrogs and the hum of the river. Walked into a very charming cabin and out to the porch. Talk about a million dollar view, I could have spent vacation on the porch and been happy. Weather was cool and rainy, but the cabin was cozy and warm. Firm bed, comfy couch, WiFi, close to 17, but still 'away from it all'. I will come back, and stay longer. A true gem. Thank you Sheila and Larry!
I already wrote a review for our stay, but I wanted to add this comment. I have e-mailed about 20 people your website and recommended the Cozy Cabin Getaway for their future vacation plans. Most of the folks contacted are in the Virginia area, and their responses have been quite positive.
My family and absolutely love this place! What's even better is that the owners are great to work with. Sheila remembered my name when I sent an inquiry to her. The house is so cozy and convenient to whatever you need to do. There is a Farmers market across the bridge that I believe is seasonal. You have a fantastic view of the York river. There is an enclosed porch tjet is comfortable but there is also a nice deck outside with furniture, cushions and an umbrella. My husband absolutely loves the fact that you can fish off of the little sandy beach area. There is wi-Fi which is a plus if you need to stay connected. Sheila and Larry's place is the perfect getaway to unwind, relax and enjoy the sunsets. Thank you both! We hope to be back real soon!
Larry and Sheila are great hosts! The cabin has is well supplied with kitchen/cooking essentials and is well supplied overall. We highly recommend this cozy getaway to those who just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Stores for needed items are close. Plenty of restaurants around if you don't want to cook. It's quiet and beautiful.
This cabin should be booked 365 days a year!
Thanks Larry and Sheila for a great getaway!!!!
-Richard and Patricia Efthim
This little cottage has it all! The view is fabulous, the house, screen porch, deck and beach area are all very welcoming rain or shine. Felt like home and had everything we needed to enjoy a nice weekend away from home. The owners were great to deal with and very accommodating. We were going to eat out Saturday night, but the sun came out and the wind died down so we grabbed some steaks and grilled out! Sat on the beach and watched the sunset, it was awesome!
