About Leilani and George

Our favorite Maui restaurant is Hula Grill at Whaler's Village.

Tax ID: W20258300-01

Leilani and George purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Leilani and George chose Maui

We love staying in the cottage because we can dream that we live on Maui. When you stay in a hotel, you are always reminded that you are merely a visitor to this island paradise. It is so wonderful to come 'home' to a beautiful cottage on lush, tropical grounds. We love to cook our own 'Hawaiian style' breakfast everyday, including pineapple sausage, freshly cut mango, pineapple-orange-guava juice & macadamia nut coffee. In the evenings, we love to sit out on the lanai & enjoy the island breeze or take a dip in the pool.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to let you know we had the best time at #17 we have been to Maui before and always stayed at hotels, Even the Royal Lahina 4 blocks away. Being away from all the noise of the fast passed vacation centers was a blast!!! The neighborhood was quiet and safe, There was almost no one running around , no loud noises , no elevators , just quiet relaxing vacation. We will be staying there again when its available. WE JUST LOVED IT !!!!

Hubby and I stayed here for 25 days in March. We have stayed at International Colony Club before and we love the area. We have been travelling and staying in rental accommodations for the past 10 years. This is the first time we have felt the need to write a negative review. This cottage has so much potential, BUT we were so disappointed with the condition and upkeep of the place. The roof leaks which gets the bed wet. Panes of glass are missing in the living room windows. We found gecko EXCREMENT in drawers in the master bedroom when we moved in. After that we would find the same in various places on many mornings - kitchen table, on top of stove, bathroom counters. The laundry room has not had the excrement removed for years so it is quite gross to look at. Bifold closet doors in the bedroom are broken and just hanging there. The windows were so dirty that the sunlight was not coming thru. The ceiling fans were coated with crud. And all of the bifold doors had way too much fuzz on for us. The owner did arrange for cleaners to clean the windows, fans and bifold doors while we there and we thank her for that. Some of the lighting in the cottage does not work very well either. The exterior light in particular is supposed to be on a sensor for dusk to dawn lighting. However, many times when we came home after dark that light was not on, making it very difficult to get the key in the door. This owner may rebut saying she told us to leave the switch on all night, but I am telling you that what we experienced was with the switch on all night. The pics of this cottage that are on the site must be 10 years old. The furniture in the living room is the same and is very thread bare. Overall, the regular cleaning is done very well. It is the hard to reach areas that are so filthy. Paint is peeling and chipped everywhere. I could tell you what color the last 3 coats of paint have been. We took pics and saved many email we had with the owner. She was very unhappy with us and sent an email to her cleaners, about how she couldn't wait for us to leave. However, she must have pushed a wrong button because that email came to us!!

Owner's Response: One of the worst & most unreasonable guests that I have ever had in 10 years of owning this cottage. She complained from the minute she walked in the door until the minute she left. She harassed me via email on a constant basis for the entire 3 weeks. She purchased a shower caddy because she decided the cottage needed one. She wanted to remove the closet doors & store them under the bed. She acted like she bought the cottage. The cottage was to receive a $50,000 remodel in the fall. The contractor bailed on me at the last minute, leaving me no way to find someone else to do it during open dates. The cottage has been booked ever since. One pane of glass is missing from the jalousie windows. There are 250 of these panes throughout the cottage. It is difficult to know if there are leaks until it rains a lot because it rains so infrequently. As far as gecko excrement, the housekeeper cleaned it all up when the cottage was cleaned before the guests arrived. I have no way to control geckos coming into the cottage & what they do there. I thoroughly cleaned the laundry room when I was there in September. The love seat she is referring to as 'thread bare' is the only piece that hasn't been replaced. The pix are not 10 years old. Paint is not peeling & chipped everywhere. I'm sorry that she feels this way. I take great pride in my cottage. The majority of guests LOVE the cottage and many come back every 2 years. I bent over backwards to try to please her during her stay. In 'high season', the housekeeper has very little time to clean in between guests. The cottage needs a "deep cleaning" by March, but that cannot be done until a long enough break in the scheduled guests. I had to scramble to hire cleaners to "deep clean" while this guest was there because she was so unhappy with the cottage. (My regular housekeeper was out-of-the-country attending her mum's funeral.) I cleaned the ceiling fans myself in September, so they either get very dirty very quickly or this guest is just a super picky germaphobe. I got the windows cleaned (which was supposed to get done before they arrived , but it was raining). I got the modem replaced and the phone fixed. I have spent over $13,000 recently for electrical repairs. I'm sorry if that wasn't enough. I more than responded to her needs and requests. If she still finds fault with me and my cottage, I can't help that. For the small price she paid, she got her money's worth on this vacation rental.

ICC is a outstanding vacation facility on the beautiful island of Maui. The cottage we stayed at has all the necessary amenities (laundry, Wi-Fi, very comfortable beds, excellent kitchen etc). It is a short stroll to the ocean or if you wish, there are two pools of good caliber within ICC. We do recommend having a rented vehicle as public transit seemed to be lacking at the time we were there. We are only giving this cottage a 4 out of 5 rating because of the traffic noise which ends at approx. 8pm and starts up again at approx. 7am, Parking a rented vehicle is only a few steps away which is great for retired people like ourselves. One thing we noticed was that the cottage could have been a little cleaner, but we are assuming that it had been empty for a while before we arrived, so doing a bit of cleaning ourselves was not an issue, as this was going to be our home for the next 2 weeks. We recommend ICC to families of all ages.

I can't say enough about this darling place...

  • 5 of 5

This is such a darling place. A lot bigger than I imagined. Such pride of ownership and upon checking in we immediately felt welcome in this cottage. Its been hot here in Maui but there are many fans and being elevated the breeze comes in to cool it off. We will stay again when we visit Maui again.

Cute cottage!

  • 4 of 5

This is a cute little cottage just across Highway 30 from Kaanapali Beach. It has good facilities, well-stocked kitchen, laundry room bigger than the one I have at home, glass jalousies on the windows (I'm from the Philippines and my parents' home had the same kind of windows; brought back memories). Nice shower. My husband and I and our three almost grown up children were quite comfortable. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it does have some deferred maintenance issues, as a previous review mentioned. These issues don't interfere with the functionality of the cottage, but do detract a bit from its charm. Another issue is that we went in August, when it got quite warm and the cottage has no airconditioning or drapes to shield us from the sun. But when you open all the windows, the cottage usually cooled down nicely with all the winds. And you could always jump in the pool or the ocean to cool off. We enjoyed the sunsets that you could watch from the windows and the beautiful trees and flowers all around us. Take my advice, when you get there, check into the cottage first and see what condiments and other supplies there might already be in the kitchen before you go out grocery shopping. It might already have what you need. Down at the corner of Highway 30 (you can walk there) is a shaved ice place and The Shark Pit, where you can get some really good (creative) sandwiches. All in all, this cottage is a good deal for your money and you won't regret renting it.

Clean and generally quiet

  • 4 of 5

Cottage looked like photos. Very clean. Owners went out of their way to make stay more enjoyable. Book of activities & businesses in cottage was helpful. Without the trade winds, air conditioning would be nice but as long as the winds are present, it is very comfortable and spacious. Loved having washer and dryer in cottage. We would recommend this place to others and would love to go back. We loved the beauty of the mountains and beaches. There was so much to do there. Star gazing at throw Hyatt was a big plus for my son.
