About the property

2 cozy bedrooms, with views from every window. 1 bathroom. Sleeps 4 comfortably

In a Fairytale setting of Forests and Gardens, the charming Stone Cottage sits just above Padilla Bay, with wonderful views of the Islands, Guemes Channel, the distant Cascades and Mt Rainier.

Originally built from stone in the 1940's, this Local Landmark has been carefully restored to retain it's Rustic Charm while offering every modern convenience. All of the amenities of a top rated B&B are provided with the privacy and comfort of your own Vacation Home.

The Cottage is situated on beautiful Samish Island one of the lesser known islands (and best kept secrets!) of the San Juan Archipelago, it is a "Drive-To" island located off the northwest coast of the Washington mainland. It is connected to the mainland by land reclaimed through a system of dikes created in the early 20th century.

Samish Island is just 6 miles from Edison, less than 10 miles west of Interstate 5 and 25 minutes south of Bellingham. Surrounded by Chuckanut, Samish and Padilla bays, the island offers some of the best Clams, Crabs and Oysters in the Northwest!

Samish Island was part of the ancestral homelands of, and was named after, the Samish Indians, a Coast Salish tribe of the Pacific Northwest. Now a mix of rustic cabins and sprawling estates are set amongst deep forests, rocky cliffs and sandy beaches. The island is also home to a large number of bald eagles, blue heron and other wildlife. The quiet island roads are perfect for long walks and bicycle rides (don't forget to wave to everyone!)

Enjoy a board game or a classic movie in the cozy cedar paneled living room. Watch the sailboats go by from the window seat, or curl up with a good book by the stone fireplace. The patio is the perfect spot for summer evening cocktails, barbecuing and intimate campfires.

Whether you are planning a Private Escape, a Romantic Retreat or a Fun Friends Getaway, the Stone Cottage is the perfect choice.

We invite you to be our guest.Your peace and privacy are our top priority. Let the awesome views inspire you and the closeness to nature restore you. Relax and enjoy this Romantic retreat.

Quality you can trust! Please do not be deterred by the negative message that this site is now posting to convince Travellers to use the BIN system which is an added cost to you. We have been in business since 2009 and have dozens of repeat customers. We do not use HomeAway's payment system due to the added fees and the lack of ability to connect with our guests. You may pay your deposit with a check or bank card via Pay Pal- a secure payment system. Please first let us know your preferred method of payment & we will send you the appropriate invoice. We look forward to hearing from you!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful stay here at the Stone Cottage. It's so peaceful here. The early morning sunrise is beautiful- with the eagles flying in & out of the trees, it's amazing! We enjoyed long walks, taking in the awesome views and then coming back to a nice warm fire, very cozy. So glad we had the opportunity to come. Thanks so much Debbie & Dave!

Delightful in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Our daughter recommended Stone Cottage to us as a cool respite from Dallas heat, and we found the place as delightful as she did. The water, mountains, islands, forests and flowers offered a feast for the senses—along with the fabulous food available at local restaurants. Best salmon I’ve ever eaten at the Oyster Bar, where all the food and service is exceptional, not to mention the view across the bay. We city dwellers loved the local events, the festivals, farmers’ markets, gorgeous gardens and various crops ripening in the fields. Breadfarm Bakery rules!

Thanks for the friendly, warm welcome, the spotless cottage, so well appointed with many charming personal touches, and all the conveniences.

Peaceful, sweeping view, comfortable, nostalgic

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit, and we had a wonderful time. The water view from the cottage is exceptional, and we always set our scope up at the window to view birds. In winter, there are so many birds in this region, including swans, snow geese, raptors, falcons, and many ducks. This year, we noticed the swan population had increased considerably. The cottage is so comfortable, and the owners are great hosts. We will definitely return! The weather was extraordinarily beautiful this time, with views of mountains by day and stars at night. Perfect.

Perfectly charming

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I spent two nights here during freezing weather but the fireplace insert kept the main room warm and the bathroom had electric heat. Flannel sheets & heavy comforters made for cozy sleeping so we didn't use the electric heat in the bedrooms. The kitchen stove is small but it was big enough to cook a roast for dinner. The view is simply amazing. We saw bald eagles, a hawk, hummingbirds, and wrens while sitting on the couch. I cannot think of anything to criticize. We look forward to returning in warmer weather to enjoy more of the outdoor amenities.

Even Better Than The Pictures!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed at Stone Cottage for 3 nights in October, and booked it only 2 weeks in advance. Debbie was extremely responsive to our inquiry and helpful to us as we pre-planned outings in the Samish Island area. The owners have gone above and beyond to make the cottage cozy and inviting. From the '40s music that was playing on the satellite station when we walked in, to the s'more candy treats for our girls, we felt right at home. The cottage was beautifully decorated inside and out for the fall harvest season, and I cannot say enough about the setting. Truly breathtaking. RENT THIS COTTAGE - you will be glad you did! I hope someday we will be able to again.

Charming, quiet, and restful

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic week I spent with my Mom in Stone Cottage. On nice days, we walked the island and waved at cars (everyone waves to each other there) and on the rainy days we worked jigsaw puzzles and watched the storms roll across Padilla Bay. This was a great headquarters for our adventures in Bellingham, Anacortes, La Conner, and our slow drives around the farms and up Chuckanut Drive. The history of the cottage, and the attention to details, just added to the charm.

Where It All Begins...TRULY PERFECT

  • 5 of 5

I cannot imagine finding a better place to rent. Debbie and Dave had excellent communication and their customer service was top notch. Debbie met us and showed us around the spacious cottage that was incredibly beautiful, organized, warm, cozy and clean. The décor and the furniture isn't the typical set up you would see in most rentals, this one feels like a really nice home. I truly felt like I was in my dream vacation home. Everything in every way was first class...If HomeAway had their rating system extended, I would rate The Stone Cottage 6 STARS.

We originally booked for 7 nights, but we booked an extra night (8 nights) because we needed one more night because we couldn't leave when we were planning to. And, out of the 8 nights we stayed, we opted to stay in the cottage because it was that perfect. The neighborhood was very safe, quiet and the view...words aren't enough.

I am already planning another trip to The Stone Cottage and if I'm lucky based on days already booked on the calendar, I'll be able to get back there and do it all over again.

Thank you Debbie and Dave...you nailed it!

Samish Island is part of the San Juan islands 'Banana Belt', which means we get substantially less rainfall and more sunshine than inland. This allows for year round outdoor activities including Beach combing, Bicycling, Kayaking, and Hiking. Enjoy the island life without the expense of a ferry!

Located half way between the exciting cities of Seattle and Vancouver BC (an hour drive from the border.)The island is also just a short distance from beautiful Chuckanut drive and the coastal towns of Anacortes, Edison, Fairhaven and La Conner. Wonderful dining and shopping experiences await you at each stop.

Every season offers something new to see and do. When you book your reservation we will be sure to let you know about up-coming events and attractions in the area.
