Cleartide Guest Cottage sits in its own private garden on the beautifully landscaped grounds of a waterfront property right in Governor’s Harbour. A small beach on the harbor is a 2 minute walk from the house. A 15 minute walk (or 2 minute drive) takes you to famous French Leave Beach, a mile-long crescent of pink sand which has been ranked top 20 in the world.
The main living area of this fully restored, antique-filled cottage is on the second floor to take maximum advantage of the stunning view of the harbour and historic Cupid’s Cay. The charming and well-appointed living room features a vaulted ceiling. It looks out to a screened porch furnished with comfortable wicker chairs and a table for dining. Off to the right is a small but fully-equipped kitchen with all new appliances. To the rear, overlooking the garden, is a master bedroom with king-size bed and en-suite bath with walk-in shower.
Cleartide Guest Cottage is fully air conditioned and equipped with cable and high speed wifi Internet, flat screen TVs in the living area and bedrooms, and a DVD and CD player. There is a gas grill in the garden and there are beach towels, tennis rackets and snorkeling equipment available for guest use.
The town of Governors Harbour, steps from the cottage, has a charming collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking its historic harbor. Buy fresh fish and lobster every afternoon from fisherman at the town dock, or visit the recently restored Haynes Library, which dates from 1897, for the weekly coffee hour for foreign residents and tourists. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, a bakery, gift shops, a dive shop, and a medical clinic. Friday Night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour, a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street, is not to be missed.
Eleuthera is famous for its 100 miles of spectacular, deserted beaches. The island, home to just 8000 residents, is completely safe any time of the day or night. Enjoy the rare experience of picking up hitch-hikers and leaving your keys in the car wherever you go. The snorkeling, diving, and fishing on the island are world class. Boating, surfing, and other water sports are also popular. You can rent power boats, sailboats, sea kayaks, bikes. You can have a charter captain take you out for excursions of various types. There is excellent sightseeing as well. Eleuthera has vast caves, cliffs, a bottomless ocean hole, many unique beaches, historic churches and 19th century homes, and small villages to explore. We hope you will enjoy Cleartide Guest Cottage, and experience all our island has to offer.
We stayed for a week at Cleartide, right in time for Homecoming, to our fortunate surprise. The location couldn't be beat. The views of the harbour at sunset were outstanding, with the best view of it right at the end of the driveway. Everything we needed was within walking distance -- 2 minutes to groceries, cafes, restaurants, gas and other shopping, 5 minutes to the fish fry, and if we'd wanted to walk it, 20 minutes to French Leave Beach and the Leon Levy Preserve (we chose to drive to those, though). The cabin was well maintained, Edgar (caretaker) was beyond helpful and sweet, as was Louise (housekeeper). The grounds were manicured almost daily. Roselyn and Tara were quick to check up on us the moment we arrived to make sure everything was to our liking and to make sure we had everything we needed. Everyone's impeccable hospitality service was beyond impressive, making for a very comfortable stay and supreme confidence that we were well taken care of. The suite itself instantly felt like home through its decor (and an incredibly comfortable bed). You won't regret renting this gem.
This is my seventh trip to the island. The Cleartide Cottage is by far the best place I have stayed. It is quiet, clean, modern, has all the amenities you need to be comfortable. The grounds are beautiful. The owners of the property are very caring and sweet people. They have several staff that were available to help with any need I might have. I did not rent a car, I could walk to stores, the beach, etc. and did not need to have one. In the future, I will stay longer than 7 days and might get a car to explore more of the island and see more beaches. This cottage is a slice of heaven. I did not want to leave. There is a beautiful screened in porch where you can sit in the morning and eat your breakfast and in the evenings, have a beverage and listen to the night animals. The location is perfect for a peaceful and relaxation stay. I cannot wait to book again for next year.
Cleartide Cottage has a lovely atmosphere, is well furnished and has an individual touch that makes it feel like home. The porch overlooks the harbour, where you can enjoy the view over breakfast as well as the sunset in the evening. Towels and linen are provided and were good quality, and the bed was also super comfy. In general the house was clean and has pretty much everything you might need during your stay. Edgar was a great help during our stay, and has cars to rent and can recommend where to rent jeeps (or anything else) from.
The house is also well situated, with convenience stores, cafes/restaurants, petrol station, bank and the Friday Fish Fry within walking distance (5 mins). There are also a couple of beaches within walking distance (15-20 mins), including French Leave Beach, but generally you need a car to get around the island as there is no public transport (although you can easily hitch-hike). We also walked to Twin Cove which took just under 60 mins. The area is quiet both day and night, with the exception of the local roosters that begin to crow quite early in the morning (they're literally everywhere in Eleuthera!).
Eleuthera itself has countless beautiful beaches, which are indeed mostly deserted, and the locals are friendly and always say 'hello'. For whatever reason, you don't seem to be able to buy everything in the convenience stores and everything is about 2-3x as expensive as in the US, so don't plan on buying everything on arrival! Taxi to North Eleuthera Airport cost around $115.
My girlfriend and I recently returned from staying in Cleartide cottage for two weeks. We had an amazing time and couldn't be happier with the accommodations at the Cleartide Cottage. We stayed in the upper suite while my parents came to the island for 8 days and used the lower suite.
Edgar was there to greet us as we arrived and was always available when we had any questions or needed assistance. He also has vehicles available for rent if you need a car while on the island. It is a large island with much to see so I suggest you get a car for at least a portion of your visit. Although, there is everything you need within walking distance of the cottage and French Leave, which is a short walk away, is arguably one of the most beautiful beaches on the island if not the world. It blows the "pink" sand beach on Harbour Island away and you can usually have it to yourself.
The cottage itself was beautiful and outfitted with everything we needed and more. We could easily have lived in this cottage for months and want for nothing. We have no complaints.
Eleuthera itself defies description. The beaches are extraordinary and I assure you even the best pictures cannot do justice to the real thing. The volume of beaches and the diversity of what can be found at each beach cannot be overstated. I recommend buying a beach guide and get out and explore. There is something there for every type of beach lover.
As much as we were taken by the island’s natural beauty, the beauty of the Bahamian people is even more noteworthy. Their kindness, friendliness and generosity should be an example to us all. Just a short stroll through any of the settlements will bring you more friendly greetings and well wishes than a week in most other places I have lived in and traveled to.
We also wanted to add a nod to Roselyn Drake and Tara Davis with Eleuthera Vacation rentals who have made the whole booking process simple and efficient. Thank you.
Finally, I need to mention Tom and Donna who live in the beautiful main house on the property. While Edgar is the caretaker of the property and your first source for assistance, Tom and Donna were a valuable source of local information. Their obvious love and enthusiasm for Eleuthera, Governor's Harbour and the Bahamian people was apparent and infectious. We can't thank them enough for all they added to our vacation and we hope to see them again one day and share another sunset listening to the stories of their experiences on the island.
My husband, myself and 3 kids had a wonderful stay at the Cleartide cottage. It was within walking distance of a grocery store, gift shop, beach, Fish Fry, basketball court, restaurant and fishing. The cottage was exactly as it appeared online....very clean, quaint and charming and a view of the harbor was breathtaking. Everything was so smooth and easy, from the suggestions of activities of things to do in Eleuthera from the girls at Eleuthera Vacation Rentals to the property manager, Edgar, always available to answer any questions we had once we got there. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pot & pans and general spices, tea, sugar, etc. Every day at 2:00 we walked a few feet around the corner to where the fisherman brought in their fresh catches of the day..... grouper, snapper and lobster. August was very hot, but each room had air conditioners that worked very well. We highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back again someday!
This property was even better than the description. We stayed in the upstairs apartment and so enjoyed the comfortable screened in porch with it tranquel view of Governor's Harbour. We started most days eating our breakfast out there and most evenings toasted the sunset with a gin and tonic before heading out to dinner. The cottage was well maintained and clean. The caretaker, Edgar Gardiner was so responsive the day we locked ourself out!
We enjoyed eating breakfast at Pammy's, dinner at the Buccaneer, lunch at Da Perk and the famout Friday fish fry. The suggestions for activities suggested by the owner were right on. There is a new restaurant called 1648 walking distance away that has an awesome view and a pretty good dinner. We also enjoyed the restaurant at Rainbow Bay. We would definitely recommend this property to others.
