Eamonn and Stella Long have fulfilled a long-held dream with the building of Rathellen House (built 2006) on a four acre site which had been in the family for generations.
Guests at Rathellen House will enjoy the peaceful, rural location. Set at the edge of the Glen of Aherlow, Rathellen House has spacious grounds. There is ample parking and plenty of room for children to run on the lawns. The location is very central for touring in Ireland.
Eamonn and Stella live on site and are available throughout your stay, providing a professional, friendly service.
It's hard to know where to begin to explain our experience staying at Rathellen. We were excited to be in Ireland but the moment we drove into the driveway we almost stopped breathing. The setting is out of a movie set, the estate is beautiful and the owners are like family. I met up with my sister and her family in from the east coast for 10 days. We each took a
day to say what we wanted to do and the others had to go along with the itinerary. Needless to say it was a lot of fun. We went fly fishing by the river at Cashel Castle, we went canoeing in Kilkenny, we went horse back riding in the hills of Tipperary, we went to the coast and boated out to the islands, we kissed the Blarney Stone and had a private Irish music concert in the beautiful living room at Rathellen.
The location is perfect for all the day trips we took. We spent time in Kilmallock at a favorite pub too (where kids are welcome to have a soda and play darts) called Lynch's Pub. And we did the Titanic Experience because the 12 year old with us had studied about it and wanted to stand in the spot where passengers stood when they boarded the ship a few days before it sank. With everything we did, we barely scratched the surface of all the things that can be done.
We went in early June and the weather was perfect.
We cooked many meals at the Rathellen house in the dream kitchen. There is not a gadget you could want for.
We also had two prepared meals made for us and served and cleaned up ( that was a huge undertaking!) made by the owners, Eammon and served by Stella and beautiful Emily, their daughter home from college for the summer. They were 4 star meals. And they were 4 hour meals. No one wanted to leave the table because the food and talk were so good.
We had as much contact with the owners as we wanted. I promise you we could have spent more time with them, they are lovely and we fell in love with them and Murphy ( the black lab) and will consider them friends for the rest of our lives.
If you get really lucky you might get invited on a walk to some holy wells that only the locals know about.
There is not another place to stay if you want beautiful lodging ( the outlook from every room in this manor is spectacular). My spouse sat in every seat in the house because she said she didn't want to miss a spot of it and loved each one them for their comfort and views.
This is the place to retire to after a full day of the most beautiful scenery and people in the world!
This house is more beautiful and impressive than pictures can capture. The 11 of us ranging in age from 14 to 72 had plenty of room to be together or be alone as we chose. Eammon made us a gourmet dinner one night, which was followed by entertainment in the living room by a talented Irish music group that Stella arranged for us. All of the accouterments deserve better than 5 stars, ie. beds, furniture, equiptment, decor, linens, dishes, etc. The rooms are large and wonderfully decorated. The kitchen is professional and equipped for a caterer. Stella and Eammon are wonderful! It is better than my review!
The Rathellen House has all the charm and elegance of an old Georgian country house, but with the new modern conveniences and comfort. We stayed at the Rathellen House for a week and our stay was fantastic. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The décor of the house with antique furniture is beautiful and the house was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable. The ensuite bathroom in our bedroom was large with a Jacuzzi tub and a heated towel rack. The Jacuzzi tub was wonderful after a long trip from the Napa Valley. The house faces the beautiful Galtee Mountains, so most of the bedrooms have a view of the mountains. The commercial kitchen is well equipped with anything you may want, if your are planning on cooking at home.
The location is great! Centrally located in County Tipperary, we were within about an hour to Waterford, Kilkenny, and Limerick. Rock of Cashel and Cahir are less than 30 minutes. There are also several scenic drives in the area of the Galtee Mountains. It was great to go exploring for the day and come back to this elegant and very comfortable home.
The owners, Stella and Eamonn, live in a separate wing of the house, but were available for anything that we needed. They were extremely helpful in assisting us plan the rest of our trip around Ireland.
We hope to return to Ireland and to be able to stay at the Rathellen House again.
We were in a group of 10 travelling from Canada and I have to say that our visit at the Rathellen House was truly amazing - the owners of the home could not have been more helpful in making sure that our stay was enjoyable and relaxing - their home is beautiful and had all the conveniences that you would every need - we all had our own private bath and bedroom - we also had a wonderful night of fine dining, the meal being prepared by the owners. The home is centrally located so we were able to do day trips and not feel that we were rushing from one spot to the another - I would highly recommend this home for anyone making a trip to Tipperary county and also if you would like a weekend away this would be a location that you would find very relaxing and enjoy a lovely meal without having to leave the residence - Thanks to the owners for making our stay a pleasure - look forward to visiting again in the future
The Longs were nothing short of wonderful, accommodating and gracious hosts during our stay at Rathellen House. Our large group could not have picked a better place to stay for our four days in beautiful County Tipperary. Rathellen House is centrally located for day trips, or a walk into town, and local Bansha Bus Company handled all of our transportation needs. Eamonn, a Ballymoe-trained chef, prepared a delicious evening meal of local and traditional fare, and wonderful full Irish breakfasts each morning...absolutely delectable! I would recommend Rathellen House, and hosts Eamonn and Stella, to anyone wishing a fabulous stay in Ireland. Thank you, Eamonn and Stella!!
Our group of 12 selected Rathellen House because of its location - central to all the things we wanted to visit on our day trips. We also wanted a place where we could all stay together, in more of a home-style setting. The house itself is beautiful with large, well appointed rooms. There is a wonderful living room and dining room on the first floor that provided us with great opportunities to gather. Each bedroom has an excellent en-suite bathroom.
But my favorite thing about Rathellen House was the warm hospitality provided by the owners, Stella and Eamonn. During the planning stages of our trip they were extremely helpful putting us in contact with a bus company for our transportation needs, giving us restaurant and sightseeing suggestions, etc. We asked for "add on" services such as snacks and drinks on our touring bus, appetizers in the afternoon, etc. and they came through with flying colors. On our first night, we hired Eamonn to prepare us a traditional Irish dinner - it was more spectacular and delicious than we could have imagined.
The charm of the house, the ideal location for day trips (Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Gallway, Killarney...) and the incredible hospitality make the Rathellen House the perfect place - especially for a group.
