Overview

Santa Rosa Estate Rental Photos and Description

5 Bedrooms + Convertible bed, 2 Baths (Sleeps 8-10), vineyard views

Approaching on a winding private drive lined with ancient live oaks and olive trees, its own vineyard of mature zinfandel grapes to the right, guests arrive at this soulful estate magically sited on 8 acres overlooking Bennett Valley, just minutes from the famed Valley of the Moon and the amenities of Santa Rosa. There are about 3 level acres and 5 acres of wooded trails, creeks, and exploration. If you and your group appreciate privacy, and “artisan luxury”, we think you will love our house and grounds.

Tall glass walls offer light and views of the natural gardens, vineyard, and fruit orchard, while relaxing in contemporary luxury. The lower level of the home features slate and maple flooring, ancient fir beams, an open living room with hearth and woodstove, spacious dining, Mexican tile kitchen, and a great room with stone fireplace, entertainment kitchen and French doors leading to outdoor deck, expansive, level lawn. The lower level also includes two of the five bedrooms. Make your way across the lawn and there, tucked into a private benched terrace surrounded by a woodland grove, lies an artful pool with stone spa and large patio area.

Cascade stairs lead to the second floor balcony overlooking cathedral ceiling living room. A master bedroom with skylights, King bed and room to spare, a large private bedroom with Queen bed and views of the valley, a loft bedroom for 2 or more, especially fun for kids. The second floor bath has a fabulous Victorian claw foot tub and shower, mosiac tiles and lots of room for candles and music!

This is not a party house. We do not allow events of parties of any kind. Sorry!

About Patrick O'Brien

We are a family of four that lives in San Francisco. Two boys ages 10 and 13. We use the place quite a bit, and often have friends up, as well as big extended family events like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.

Patrick O'Brien purchased this estate in 2008

Why Patrick O'Brien chose Sonoma County

We wanted a country get-away that was close enough to San Francisco to go up for the weekend, just one night, or even for the day. At 1 hour 20 minutes form our house in SF, we achieved that with this property.

We also fell in love with this particular property with its 8 acres, pool and jaccuzzi, easy indoor-outdoor living, and very, very peaceful feeling

What makes this estate unique

We fell in love with this particular property because of its tranquil rural setting, its 8 acres with hundreds of oak trees and two converging creeks, its pool and jaccuzzi, easy indoor-outdoor living, and very, very peaceful feeling

Perfect Stay in a Beautiful Home!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I recently had a "reunion weekend" at this beautiful home. There were 10 of us who stayed, with 2 more who joined us for dinner on one of the nights. We had a personal chef come and cook us a divine meal and the kitchen(s) had everything he needed to make the chef's job complete. Everything we needed to have a memorable stay was part of this home. Upon arrival, Chris (person who helps look over the property), greeted me with a smile and showed me around quickly so I could get started on the weekend. From there, my friends started arriving and were in awe of how large the home actually was. It was fun checking everything out. Our favorite part was the pool and spa setting- a secluded area to make us feel like we were far away from real life. I would describe this home as a "woodsy mid-century modern". While there were parts that had a mid-century feel, there were parts that felt like we were in a big tree house (as one of my friends described). With an address in Santa Rosa, it's as close to the Sonoma Valley as you can get without the extra cost of staying there. It is literally 1.5 miles from a winery that we gave 5-stars. In addition, communication with Pat was great- he answered all my questions within a reasonable time. I cannot recommend this place enough. Thank you for a memorable stay!

Summer Fun

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying at this property in 4 years. Last time was good and this time, it was GREAT. Pat, the owner, has upgraded the downstairs bathroom for pool access. What a wonderful idea. Plenty of towels and sheets for a 3 night stay. The property is only an hour and 15 minutes from SF. I managed to go to work on Monday morning and drove back to join my family by dinner time. We will definitely go back. The kids had a blast.

Adult only passport weekend

  • 5 of 5

This house was just as it looks...perfect. Eight adults up for a long weekend for passport event. Everyone arrived in seperate cars. Plenty of parking. Plenty of space for us all to spread out. Big bedrooms, beautiful outdoor space to enjoy. All we kept thinking about was bringing the kids back in the summer and just enjoying the pool and serenity of the yard. Plenty of bath and pool towels and love the two kitchens. One we used tradotionly the other as our bar and snack area! We hired a limo bus to drive us around and had no problem getting there on the narrow road. Quiet and beautiful! Can't wait to go back!

Cool Place. Could use some maintenance.

  • 4 of 5

I will begin by saying i wasn't the initial renter of the property. But i stayed with my wife and three small kids and some other family for a week. It worked out great for us as far as the location and the overall general use of the home. It has plenty of ammenities.

We came in at night which was sort of eerie, i would recommend coming in for your first glance at daytime just to get your bearings. Lightbulbs were out on the side garage so we couldn't see very well. I changed the bulbs and a couple more in the house during the week. The place was thoroughly stocked with everything you would need to fix general issues if they arose.

While it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere, everything is pretty close (within 15 minutes to stores), 25 minutes to santa rosa and other areas.

The home itself is cool, my sons loved it, especially the hideaway accessible via a ladder in one of the upstairs bedrooms. They used this throughout the week to play. Lots of natural light, very interesting layout but definitely worked well for the adults being able to stay up while the kids are in bed and not being too loud. Place could've used another TV upstairs or in another room as there is only one TV in the house it makes it hard especially when you have kids who may want to watch cartoons etc. Luckily we had Ipad's and stuff, (the WIFI was spotty once i got it working).

The shower upstairs wasn't great, it's a big old tub with a dirty curtain around it. The water smelled like sulfur. I would recommend to the owner that they get the water conditioning system working again. I checked outdoors to see if it was working and to see if there were salt crystals anywhere. I have a similar system at my own home and i know they can be a pain to maintain especially if you're not there all the time. I know what it's like to be on a well and sometimes it's just difficult to keep good tasting/smelling water. We didn't drink the water other than to make coffee or cook pasta etc.

The pool area was cool, a little cold to swim for the time of year. I couldn't figure out how to heat the pool, i'm not sure there was actually a pool heater. That said, we did not call the owner and ask. The hot tub is good, it gets pretty hot.

Overall the place was very good but the water & general maintenance could've been better. Everyone was creeped out by the big horse photo. Some cool art in the place and a guitar which was cool since i am a guitar player.

Lovely home!

  • 5 of 5

We had our family stayed over for a week and the house was perfect. The location felt remote and yet within 10-15 min drive to Safeway/Wholefoods and well located in terms of hitting the various wine country areas (Calistoga, St Helena, Yountville, etc.) We also did a couple bike rides leaving from the house. The pellet stove was a nice touch and kept the house warm. The hot tub was a plus and warmed up quite well and quickly considering it was November. The house is pretty bright, sunny, spacious and comfortable. Overall I would recommend this place for a nice get-away and I still have fond memory of my week spent there!

Wonderful home for large group or big family

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at your Sta Rosa home. Your house was perfect for our large group - very homey, and so comfortable. (We were 12 adults and one child).

We loved soaking in the hot tub after our long bike rides, and the double kitchen was handy for preparing big group meals.

The surrounding area is stunning - we are all a bit jealous and hope to someday own our own little get-away in Sonoma county.

We'd really like to book your home in the summertime so we can enjoy the pool area. Backyard is great for kids.
